The upper layer of the enamel in steel and cast iron baths will wear out over time. On the surface appear unpleasant stains, cracks, chips, yellowness. Of course, such a bath can be thrown away, and in exchange you can install a new one, but restoration will prolong the life of your sanitary ware and will save the family budget.

Restoration. Methods

Restoration can be carried out by different methods, among which:

• application of two-component enamel. Two components are a hardener and enamel itself. The mixture is applied to the surface like ordinary paint;
• filling the bath with acrylic( stakrilom). After polishing and thorough degreasing, the bath is poured with acrylic. Within 2 days, the updated plumbing is completely ready for use;
• installation of a bath in the bath. This method is to install an acrylic liner, completely identical to the old tub. The liner is fixed with glue or foam and allows you to use the restored bathroom for a long time.

Preparing a bath for enamelling or applying acrylic

Although these methods have their own peculiarities, the preparation procedure is completely identical. It is necessary to remove the layer of old enamel and to achieve the maximum adhesion of the future coating with cast iron / steel.

The following materials and devices must be prepared:

• cleaning powder;
• solvent;
• emery paper on a fabric basis( for example, P24);
• fast-setting filler polyester automotive;
• polyethylene, newspapers and paint tape;
• vacuum cleaner( or a wide soft brush);
• grinder + grinding wheels;
• the fabric is clean, leaving no lint;
• hair dryer;
• screwdriver.

Step 1. Clean the entire surface of the bath with a brush and an abrasive agent( powder).

Step 2. We take the nest and clean the bath until the risks from the abrasive appear. When grinding, flush the cleaning agent is not necessary. Instead of nazhdachki you can use an angle grinder with a special nozzle. This will greatly simplify the work and speed up the preparation process.

Step 3. After grinding, rinse thoroughly all the crumbs and soap film. Etching the bath using oxalic acid. Neutralize the acid with soda.

Step 4. Fill the bath with hot water to the sides. We wait about 10 minutes, open the sink to the water glass, and then wipe the bath with a cloth dry. You can warm the vessel with a building hair dryer. So the moisture evaporates and the bath can be further prepared for restoration.

Step 5. Inspect the bath for large defects, potholes. We apply car shpaklevku, and after it dries, we grind with fine sandpaper. We remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner / soft brush, then carefully degrease the entire surface of the sanitary ware with a solvent and wipe with lint-free napkins.

Step 6. Unscrew the shower hose. Spill and taps are wrapped in polyethylene, so that water drops do not get into the bath during operation.

Step 7. Armed with a screwdriver, dismantle the drain grid and the siphon under the tub. Under the drain hole we substitute the dishes, into which drops of acrylic or enamel will flow.

Step 8. We seal with paint tape all the surfaces that are adjacent to the restored vessel. Floor, next to the washing machine, we cover the sink with polyethylene or old newspapers.

Application of enamel

You can enamel not only a bath, but a shower tray made of steel and cast iron, a sink, a kitchen sink. Restored as the entire surface of the plumbing, and individual plots, if necessary.

This method of restoration is short-lived, but quite economical. The painted bath will last you a couple of years, after which you will again have to think about coloring or replacing it.

Please note! The enamel has a corrosive chemical odor, so all work can be performed only in personal protective equipment for respiratory organs.

Step 1. Open the enamel and hardener. Pour them into a convenient dish, mix with a mixer until uniform( for exact proportions, see the packaging).

Step 2. Brush begin to apply the enamel, first making horizontal and then vertical strokes. Carefully we paint the entire bathtub.

Tip! To keep bristles from getting bristled, soak it in water for one day!

Step 3. Without waiting for the first layer to dry, we apply the second layer. Stretch gently with a brush.

Step 4. Pour the bottom of the vessel again.

The bath will be ready in about 5 days. Until then, it is desirable not to include water and do not allow dirt to get on painted surfaces.

Restoration with glass or a bath

This two-component mixture is quite convenient in the application, it does not have a pungent odor and has increased strength characteristics. Stakril spreads itself, on the surface of the bath formed monolithic smooth film. At the same time, the glass dries not too fast, which means that the work can be done without haste and fuss.

Step 1. Mix the mixer with a mixer in a convenient container.

Step 2. Add the glass from a common dish in a small glass and pour it on the top edge of the bath. As soon as the trickle reaches the middle of the wall, we begin to move the glass around the perimeter, periodically pouring the mixture into the glass.

Step 3 .Repeat the process, starting to pour from the middle of the walls. Save the mixture is not worth it, the excess will merge into the container under the hole, and the coating will be smooth and smooth.

If bubbles form on the surface, they can be smoothened with a plastic spatula or brush.

The polymerization process takes up to 4 days. Precise instructions on the proportions and drying times are indicated on the packages of stakryla.

When the surface is finally solidified, you can clean the film, newspaper, scotch, install a siphonold or new, at the discretion of the owner) and use a bathroom that has been restored with its own hands.

Bathtub or acrylic liner

If you do not wish to spend several days of hygiene using a basin or visiting a bath, the method of inserting an acrylic liner will suit you perfectly. The process of independent restoration in this way takes no more than three hours, and you can use the bathroom the next day.

In addition, the liner made of strong sanitary acrylic significantly reduces the thermal conductivity of the bath, as a result, the water cools very slowly.

For the best result, it is important not only to choose a suitable liner, but also to correctly distribute the adhesive composition( foam and sealant from Henkel).

Step 1. Armed with a screwdriver and a bulgarian, dismantle the strapping elements.

strapping Step 2. Prepare the bath to install the liner. We clean the whole surface with sandpaper, Bulgarian, remove the garbage with a vacuum cleaner and degrease the surface. We wipe all the drops of water dry. This measure is necessary to improve the adhesion of the adhesive foam to the plumbing.

Step 3. The inserts are transported with a technological edge, which is carefully trimmed before the installation by the Bulgarian.

Step 4. After the edge is cut off, insert the liner in the bath and make a marking for the technological holes. To do this, draw the circle with the marker, pushing your hand under the bath and circling the drain holes and overflow.

Step 5. By marking we produce drilling of the technological holes.

Step 6. Apply two-component foam and sealant. We put the sealant bottle in the gun and distribute it around the drain holes and overflow. Next, take the foam, inject a syringe into the balloon with a special composition that will not allow it to swell excessively. From the bottom up we apply foam strips on the bottom, walls, sides of the restored vessel.

Step 7. Insert the acrylic liner into the bath, gently press it with your hands, leveling. Remove excess sealant and foam.

Step 9. Fill the bath with water so that the foam, when frozen, does not displace the lightweight liner. The next day you can drain the water and use the updated bathroom.

In your spare time, you can install a decorative screen under the restored bathtub, as well as protective edges to the edges that come in contact with the walls.

Before starting the hygiene procedure, do not forget to remove the protective film from the liner.

How to repair chipped or small restoration of damage to the bath

Sometimes on the surface appear small chips, cracks from fallen heavy objects, scratches. And in this case there is no need to make a complete restoration, enough in the proper sequence to carry out minor repairs.

Previously, similar defects were eliminated by mixing the glue with tooth powder or applying an epoxy to the chip and sprinkling it with porcelain dust. But such methods are extremely unreliable, and it is better to refuse them.

Step one. We prepare the break for repair. First, we apply a rust converter to the chip, wait, we wash the composition with water. Then we clean the chip with a powder or liquid for washing dishes. Rinse with water and wipe dry.

Step two. Using acetone or another solvent, degrease the defective area. Dry and heat the surface with a hairdryer.

Step Three. Using car shpaklevku, promazyvaem chip. We wait for drying and we make sanding by emery paper.

Step four. We cover the puttyed place with two-component acrylic or automotive enamel.
