It should be noted that despite the fact that the plaster is very similar in composition to the filler( a notable difference in the granularity and fillers), the adhesion of the latter is not better, which allows not only spreading it with the thinnest layer, but also polishing with sanding. With plaster, this number will not pass, while it is in its raw form, its viscosity is quite high, but after a time, it is possible to peel off the wall covering in large areas.
This is due to the rapid absorption of moisture from the finishing mixture by the material that makes up the wall surface, as a result of which the dehydrated composition does not have time to grab in places. Therefore, carefully cleaning the walls, it is desirable to generously treat them with a special composition - a primer, using a roller or maklovitsy. There are different types of this finishing composition, differing from each other by the result of surface treatment.
So, one primer for plaster can penetrate deep into the concrete, providing it with additional protection against dampness and at the same time increasing the adhesion of the surface, another mixture, hitting the wood, acts as an antiseptic. For the most part, the priming of walls for plaster, regardless of the composition, stabilizes the porosity of the base for the materials of the wall coating, allowing the plaster to be applied evenly. That is why any finishing work, especially on complex surfaces, should begin with priming the prepared surfaces.
Primer primers used for pre-impregnation exist, as well as formulations to provide adhesion between the layers of the same coating.
For what surfaces is used primer for plastering
Beautiful smooth walls can be not only in cases when they are made of pile-gouging boards or if gypsum board was used, excellent results can be achieved with simple plaster, and if it is also a decorative mixture, furtherfinishing is not needed. However, not every material from which the wall is made is ready for plastering, and the primer for plaster is not the composition on which it is necessary to save.
It is necessary to stock up in advance with different types of soil, if in the premises you have used different wall materials. What compounds and what surfaces can and should be coated:
- loose( porous) or unreliable surfaces - strengthening soil;
- freshly plastered surface, asbestos cement walls - deep penetrating primer;
- metal structures, cleaned and with traces of corrosion - primer anticorrosive;
- lumber and other wooden surfaces - antiseptic impregnation;
- surfaces with household stains of organic and inorganic origin - primer against stains.
On any of the above bases should be applied primer in front of the plaster walls. In particular, concrete and bricks can be referred to loose and porous surfaces. Freshly applied plaster, primer and putty before application of which have already been carried out, still needs additional priming if the wallpaper is glued over. No need to additionally handle the following surfaces:
- painted walls;
- wallpaper for painting;
- finishing putty.
Primer for plaster and tiles - processing if necessary
Wallpaper for bare concrete can be glued only in exceptional cases, for example, if they have a high density, and the walls are fairly flat, which is generally uncommon. Therefore, plastering of walls before their pasting is quite an ordinary stage of repair works, which can be avoided only with the help of plasterboard. However, and having achieved the ideal smoothness of the walls in the room, you should not rush and measure the wallpaper, the primer on the plaster will be superfluous.
For this purpose a general-purpose formulation is used, there is no need to look for deep penetration fluids. While processing the plastered surface, on the contrary, try not to moisten it too much to prevent the soaking up of the finishing layers. Thus, you will use two different types of fluids: a primer before and after plastering.
There are also special compositions for coating ceramic tiles, they can be needed, if suddenly you decide to paste glass walls on the walls in the kitchen, without removing the old finish. This type of primer is designed for surfaces that do not absorb water, and therefore can be used if necessary for glass or laminate. Although, it is difficult to assume that you will ever need to glue wallpaper glass.
