How does the antiseptic board get its qualities?
Many tree species are resistant to fungus, which causes rot, but can only be completely protected from wood after treatment with special solutions. So, after a certain kind of procedures, a board is formed antiseptized, in fact, differing from its original state only by some new properties. However, external changes can also be observed, for example, a change in the color of the wood structure, which can be used to decorate rooms and the house as a whole.
There are several ways to treat sawn timber with antiseptics. This immersion of boards and beams in cold and hot baths with the composition, as well as impregnation under pressure, then manual treatment with special pastes and, finally, surface treatment, dry and wet.
The most reliable, of course, is impregnation under pressure, moreover, this method and the fastest, dipping sawn timber in baths with mortar takes time, and surface treatment is short-lived .There is another method - treatment with oil-based solutions, used for wooden parts of structures located in the open air.
What gives sawn timber antiseptic?
Greenery or browned corners of log logs, insect-eaten beams overlapping, blackened from fungus, causing rot, crowns - what could be worse than all these disasters that fall on the owners of a country house? Perhaps, only a fire.
However, and from all of the above, wood can be preserved by impregnating with special solutions, some methods of this procedure are listed above. Antiseptics come in different directions, highly specialized, protecting only from insects, mold or fungus, as well as complex ones.
Antiseptics can be classified as fire retardants that protect the tree from fire, because they contain additives that increase the resistance of sawnwood to rot or mold. Conversely, some antiseptics quite successfully increase the fire resistance of a tree.
What is remarkable, the duration of the action of the drugs depends on their components, and the highest quality impregnations, based on the metal salts, turned out to be the most short-lived, they are easily washed out of the structure of the wood by moisture. What else is important to know - if the tree was still attacked by rot or mold and as a result darkened and started to slowly but surely break down, you can apply bleaching antiseptics, they successfully destroy foci of fungal diseases.
Where are antiseptics used for sawn timber?
The greatest problems with wood arise in the places of its direct contact with the external environment - these are the entrance doors, the roof, the window frames. Also require the protection of wooden elements, located in close proximity to the ground, that is, in the basement, as well as exposed to atmospheric precipitation - this is, of course, the roof.
Do not forget that if you decide to build a log house, each board should be impregnated with an antiseptic compound to protect against insects and from fires .
With regard to the roof, special attention should be paid to the rafters, crate and slips, as well as to the ridge beam. In case of roof leakage, these roofing parts may become moldy or rot in a matter of days.
There is usually little in the basement of the tree, but the logs supporting the floors between the basement and the first floor, as well as the wooden floor coverings, require careful treatment for the simple reason that the dampness is used to rise from the basement, contaminating all the wooden parts with rot. And whether it is worth mentioning about insects that can just get into the basement from the surface of the earth and from its depths - all sorts of larvae of bark beetles and other misfortunes.
