Details on solutions

Clay mixture has one drawback - intolerance to moisture, and therefore it is used exclusively for laying the main array of the furnace. For the chimney this compound is absolutely not suitable. By their type they are fat, normal and lean.

  • Bold solution. Has a good plasticity, but it dries strongly when dried.
  • Skinny solution. It is almost not plastic, easily crumbles and very fragile.
  • Normal solution. If the astringent component and the filler are correctly combined, the composition practically does not crack when dry, has a minimum draft. It is this mixture is recommended for masonry furnaces.

The composition of clay mortar has another important factor - density. Properly prepared composition should be uniform, that is, there should not be areas with one clay or aggregate. Its consistency resembles sour cream, and it is very easy to check. During the laying of bricks, the composition should be easily squeezed out under the weight of the material itself or by lightly pressing it with your hand.

Note! In the solution, it is necessary to choose sand with grains of not more than 1 millimeter.

Mix the solution

Now we answer the question how to prepare a clay solution. It is done in several ways. If the clay is not very fat, and its lumps are easily destroyed, it is easiest to cook on the striker. A boa is a boardwalk with dimensions of 1.2 x 1.5 meters. Make the composition on the ash is forbidden, because in the process, it will be mixed with earth. So, sand is poured onto the striker, which is previously sieved.

The middle should be a thin layer, and at the edges a roller is made. Clay is poured into the formed depression, and water is poured. To get wet well, the clay should lie there for at least 24 hours. In this regard, make soaking is better the day before. The next day the mixture is shoveled and crumpled until all lumps are broken.

Next, the preparation of clay mortar is to shovel it into a long heap - a garden 300-350 mm thick. Wooden paddles are punched and all pebbles and other extraneous impurities are removed. After that, the heap again mixes, rakes and crumples. This is done at least 3-4 times.

When all ingredients are well mixed and there is no lump, water is added and everything is again well shoveled. During this process, the quality of the mixture is checked. Try the readiness for the touch: if you feel a rough layer of grains of grits when grinding, and not individual grains of sand in a slippery film, then the composition can be considered ready.

Note! The clay in the solution must be so large that it fills the entire space between the sand and creates a base.

How to refine a stove?

We examined how to make a clay mortar for masonry stoves, but often there is a need to plaster the stove. This has both decorative and practical significance. Clay mortar for plaster is prepared as follows.

Sawdust is added to the well-poured clay. Do this in small portions and mix thoroughly, otherwise the breasts will form, which will complicate all work. Water is poured as necessary. The consistency should not be too thick, but not liquid. You can check this by squeezing it in your fist - the solution should easily seep through your fingers, but without emitting water.

Important! The mixture of sawdust slowly gives off moisture, so it will dry much longer than clay mortar for laying the oven.

Wet and dry sawdust is suitable for cooking. But here there are several nuances. Dry sawdust absorbs moisture and swells. In this regard, making the final solution for plaster from dry sawdust is not recommended. Such a solution after its application will dry, swell and crack, which will lead to the need to make another layer.
