Primer for concrete floor - why do you need this procedure?
The primer is usually sold in semi-liquid form, and it still needs to be planted. This procedure is carried out in order to increase the adhesion of the concrete base with subsequent finishing, as well as for the reliable protection of concrete from adverse external influences. During the repair, a large amount of dust can accumulate on the concrete floor, which can not be removed in any other way, and this remedy eliminates this problem.
Primer for flooring can be universal( used both indoors and outdoors) and special applications( indoors or outdoors only). Each of these species has its own characteristics: resistance to various influences, protection of the base.
The concrete base is known to have a smooth surface, which makes its adhesion to the applied material weak, so it is prepared before the primer. Otherwise, the latter will be substandard.
However, if the surface is not strong, then it is better to use a deep penetrating reinforcing solution. Its particles can penetrate into the base and strengthen it, but injection formulations of this kind should be described in a separate article.
Primer for concrete - features of the machined surface
Since the base of concrete poorly absorbs moisture, then for its preparation you need a polymer composition with quartz sand. After applying the solution to the surface, it becomes rough and the adhesion to the glue or paint subsequently becomes better. Thus, the wear resistance of the substrate after treatment is significantly improved.
In order to improve the strength of the substrate, its resistance to unfavorable external conditions, a deep penetration solution is used that enhances the adhesion properties of the surface. It can be an alkyd primer. In case the base is located in a room with high humidity, a mixture with a water repellent effect is taken.
In any case, an adhesive primer must be used for the floor. The cost of such primers is much higher, but they are more effective. Especially relevant is the mixture, if tiles, parquet or other materials to be glued for floor finishing are used.
If you want to paint the floor, both the primer and the paint should have a single base: alkyd, water-dispersion, acrylic.
Primer for flooring - buying and using
This type of primer( adhesive) basically has an acrylic latex and filler that can firmly connect the concrete base with subsequent finishing, no matter which one. To distinguish a mixture of deep penetration from the strengthening is very simple: the latter has a white milky color, and the deeply penetrating primer is slightly turbid.
Primer for concrete floor must be selected according to its intended use. You can also protect the base of concrete with an antiseptic primer. Especially relevant it is in rooms where there is poor ventilation and there may be increased humidity.
It is not difficult to make the priming procedure. It is only necessary to dilute the mixture in accordance with the instructions on the package. For application, you can take a brush or roller. Apply the primer immediately to the entire surface and allow it to dry well. Usually the surface is covered with a composition 1-3 times, depending on the quality of the surface.
