Nuances of paint choice
As you know, today there are many types of paints. In order to correctly choose the one that you really need, we will consider some features of working with paint and varnish mixtures.
Painting walls with water-based paint. In the sale of such a mixture usually comes in thick. To get a smooth matte coating on the entire working surface, you need to dilute it with water, and then mix thoroughly. Paint is often mixed with a drill, equipped with a nozzle-mixer. If a water-based mixture needs to be depicted with textural ornaments on the wall, then it is allowed to leave it in a thick form, i.e.it is not necessary to dilute with water.
This type of paint can be prepared well in advance of the main work. However, you need to mix it again before applying it to the wall. When the mixture is suitable for consistency, it can be used with a tinted liquid to give the desired shade. Colors when combined give a variety of colors. This work is recommended to instruct the masters.
Today, in the building materials stores that sell paint products, there is a program for the computer selection of paint for painting the walls. It allows you to choose the color of the mixture, taking into account many factors, among which is the error in changing the shade of the paint after it dries. This program is quite convenient and useful, because it is very important to pick up all the cans of paint that have the same shade in order to get the surface of the walls in a room of the same color, without flaws. In extreme cases, it is allowed to dilute the paint, which is enough to paint one wall entirely. Then they can end up with slightly different shades on different walls, but this is not so noticeable and will look more like a special effect.
What about oil paints? They are rarely used to update the interior of apartments. Most often they are used in non-residential premises, for example, for painting walls in store rooms and pantries. This kind of paint is applied to the work surface in a slightly different way than the water-based emulsion mixture. Nevertheless, it is also important to carefully distribute the surface material here. First of all, it must be remembered that when applying the first layer does not adhere to any one direction, on the contrary, the paint is distributed by various strokes. The mixture must be smeared so that it completely and evenly covers the entire working surface. Sometimes oil paint is applied in zigzag strokes. In this case, a small space is left between the strips. Then the mixture is spread over the entire wall with a semi-dry brush. The result is a leveling layer. The painted surface should dry for 5 hours, after which another layer is applied, which is usually thinner than the first.
Basic painting requirements for
In order to qualitatively paint surfaces, you need some knowledge. In particular, the walls for painting must be prepared beforehand. These operations include leveling and dust removal. To successfully perform such a task as painting the walls in the apartment, use some tools - a sponge, a brush, a roller and an airbrush.
With regard to technology using water emulsion, this mixture, as a rule, is applied to walls in 2-3 layers. And the first of them is required to distribute strictly horizontally, the second - vertically. In the event that it is planned to apply three layers of paint, the first and the last are distributed vertically, and the middle,( ie, the second) horizontally. This order is important. Therefore, do not mix it up.
There is one more requirement for painting: you need to apply a layer of paint one after another, without waiting until the previous one dries. Places of joints of walls and ceiling, corners and various hard-to-reach places it is desirable to paint with a brush. For this purpose, a brush with a long handle will be convenient.
How to choose a roller
With a roller, you can achieve a qualitative and effective result. In addition, paint this tool faster than with a brush. But before you buy a roller, you need to be able to choose it correctly. For example, tools based on polyacrylate and nylon differ in that they have good strength. Therefore, such rollers are more resistant to aggressive media. Usually have a white or beige shade. They are recommended for use with polyurethane, epoxy paints and enamels.
There are still available polyester and velor rollers. It is recommended to use them for painting with acrylic or oil paints. These mixtures are well absorbed into these rollers, this is especially true for polyester. Velor is characterized by durability and flexibility. It can be used for both varnish coating and finishing.
If you want to paint walls with silicone, water-based, silicate paints or acrylic-based mixtures, then for this case the foam rubber roller is the most suitable.
The size of the rollers is usually selected depending on the total area of the room that you need to paint. It's quite easy to work with this tool. To do this, first on an area of about 1 square.m. is applied three layers of paint, which are rolled using a squeezed roller. Thanks to this tool, you can accurately and evenly distribute the paint throughout the entire surface to be painted.
Wall painting technology
It is important to properly prepare the working wall for painting. This largely depends on the final quality and further durability of the coating. It does not matter which color you choose. Preparation is always carried out almost the same way:
- First of all, you need to remove the old paint and wallpaper.
- The work surface must then be carefully sanded. The most important is to apply a putty on the wall, and also to straighten the cracks and chips.
- The work surface is then ground again. After that, a second layer of putty is applied to completely level the wall. Work on painting putty walls will be easier.
- The next step is priming. It is desirable to apply before and after puttying. This will improve the adhesion to the surface.
Before you start painting the walls with your own hands, be sure to check that the room has a suitable temperature and there is no draft. If the temperature is high and there are drafts in the apartment, the paint will dry too quickly, which is not very good. The fact is that because of this, irregularities, cracks and swellings may appear. In addition, it is better not to start painting if the temperature is too low and the air is wet or dry. The required quality of coverage is still impossible in such conditions.
For the application of paint use rollers, sponges and brushes. The tool is selected depending on the desired effect. So, for example, the roller allows to distribute the mixture evenly over the surface. Brush, in turn, you can paint over small areas, joints, eliminate various defects that have arisen in the process of painting. Sponge is useful in case you want to give the surface an unusual look, to decorate it. In this case, you should take a paint that has a thick consistency. Liquid mixtures are not suitable here. For decor, you may also need a roller, equipped with a long nap. They allow you to distribute the paint in different directions on large areas of the surface. However, the most convenient for painting the walls is a roller, equipped with fibers of medium length.
In order to be easy to paint with a roller, a special tray is purchased, in which a small amount of paint is poured. Perimeter wall is best painted with a brush. It should be equipped with a soft pile. Only such a brush can make the coating smooth. When using a hard brush, the surface in most cases will turn out to be rough.
Do not paint the whole surface with a roller. On the edges it is better to "walk" with a brush. In general, to paint well painted, his pile should be soaked with paint. Therefore, first take a board( or a thick sheet of paper) and several times roll over it a paint-covered roller. Only after that they start painting the wall itself.
You can start painting from any place of a non-working surface, but it is advisable to do this from above. Then the drops and streaks that will drip from above will not spoil the already painted areas.
Decorative paint
Often, to bring a zest to the interior of the room, resort to the technique of decorated staining. It is somewhat similar to the technology of painting an ordinary mixture. Only in this case some special tools are used: a stencil for painting walls, a wide sponge, a roller with relief villi, etc. All these adaptations allow to give the surface an unusual color.
Do not think that with decorative design, special types of decorative paint are used. This opinion is in fact erroneous. The most important in decorative painting is the technology of applying various coatings.
The specified painting method is quite simple. So, there are several methods of applying paint:
- For example, you can take a round brush, dip it into the paint, and then literally start hitting it on the surface to be painted. Further we wait, while the paint will dry up, and we put the next layer with a roller. In this case, the next mixture for coloring needs to be selected a little lighter. This will allow the dark patterns to "break through" through the second layer. After a similar painting of the walls, the decoration design is very unusual.
- You can use another option. It is called "stamping."In this case, the wall is first dyed, then give it time to dry. Then a soft layer of a more dark shade is applied with a soft sponge. In this case, the sponge is used like a stamp.
- One of the methods of decorative painting is stippling. It allows you to create the so-called "aging effect" of the painted surface. But this method can only be used on perfectly smooth surfaces. For this, the glaze is distributed on the base layer, which should be a more contrasting paint on the acrylic base applied earlier. After that, using the trimming brush, the painted surface is "aged".To add trim to the relief, a glue or tinted solution is used. If the first version of the base is selected, then in the future fine sand is applied to it. When the solution is distributed over the surface, with the help of a sharp object, the required shape of the ornament is created on it.
- There is a version of the finish, which is called "Stone wall decor."This method is usually used for decorating fireplaces and interior arches. For this, the wall is first painted with acrylic paint of beige or white color. After this, the mixture is taken with a shade similar to cement mortar and also applied to the surface. Then, when the paint dries out, contours, similar to a brick or massive stones, are traced from the bottom to the top using chalk. Next, take an orange paint. It is colored by the given contours. Finally, a mixture is applied, which has a hue, which is called "burnt brush".
- When decorating hallways and bedrooms often use a decorative method, which is called "Mint Skin".This kind of staining is easy enough, but long. The fact is that the painting of the wall is not done entirely, but in separate parts. The mixture covers a small area of the surface. Next, a crumpled paper is applied to the painted part. When the desired shape is made, the surface is properly stained with paint.
- For the finishing of office cabinets is another method - under the skin. For this, a glaze with latex paint is applied on the wall, which has a darker shade. Next, it is shaded with a brush from suede.
