What do we know about tar?

Known to all a thick liquid with a characteristic specific smell, used not only in medicine, but also in construction, is called tar. There are several options for obtaining a viscous mass, each of which gives a composition with different properties.

The product obtained from wood passes a dry distillation, which causes a specific odor. Also, the manufacture of tar is possible from stone or brown coal, peat or shale. It is the tar particles, the additives created on its basis, that allow producing liquid materials for laying roads, waterproofing materials.

Considering the properties, the composition of the tar, one can not help but notice that it contains about 200 different compounds, which gives the substance special characteristics, such as viscosity, a pronounced smell and the ability to join many chemical bonds.

The substance can be compared with bitumen, however tar has lower thermal conductivity and tolerability of temperature changes. That is why it is necessary to handle the compositions on the basis of tar as accurately as possible while observing the temperature limits when working.

It is impossible to say for sure what tar is used for, the substance can be a part of special masses designed for laying asphalt, repairing a road or building. When heated from the tar easily evaporate substances, resulting in a characteristic odor. That is why it is not recommended to lay the roadway in an especially hot period.

Application of tar

It is interesting that the color of tar directly depends not only on the base from which it was made, but also on the processing option. For building purposes, material that has undergone special stripping procedures is used, often experts receive tar from certain substances that are added to the building materials.

Raw tar is not used in its pure form also because it is flammable, which can not but alarm the owners of the objects under construction. That is why it is subjected to distillation, removing moisture and light oils. If all volatile components are distilled, the resulting substance is called pitch.

It is the melts that are fused with other components and receive materials for construction. Most often used such a compound for road construction. But you can find many other materials based on tar, for example, emulsion.

Emulsions are made on the basis of water with the addition of certain components that reduce its surface tension in order to dissolve the tar particles. They are used again in road construction, on the basis of an emulsion, ground-asphalt and clay-peat are made.

Precautions for working with tar

Correct use of tar allows you to achieve good results in construction, so you should carefully read the rules of using the composition, before you start. The fact is that many tar liquids have a sharp odor, you can work with them only in special protection or in the open space.

Natural wood tar material is processed, obtaining the necessary elements for construction, which are added to special compounds. Tarry mastics, emulsions and pastes retain some of the dangerous properties of raw materials, so it is important to comply with the rules of not only personal hygiene, but also fire safety.

So you should get gloves, goggles, respirators and protective clothing, and work away from fire or any source of spark. Unload the building materials on the basis of tar, not on a hot day under the scorching sun, but in the cool.

Also some tar-containing compounds are extremely dangerous when exposed to the skin in hot weather. They are able to leave burns and long healing ulcers, so when working with them, the skin is treated with glycerin or starch-containing creams, and then covered with protective clothing.

The use of pure material is gradually becoming a thing of the past, it is the qualitatively manufactured hoods that make it possible to make compositions that help to quickly perform construction work.
