Repair of concrete - when will you have to resort to surgery?

Almost all concrete and reinforced concrete structures shrink during shrinkage and shrink. And in connection with the fact that this material has a low tensile strength, cracks appear in the structure. In addition, cracks in concrete can form:

  • due to mechanical damage to the material( accidents, excessive loads, vibrations, seismic activity, water wear);
  • "due to" chemical damage( from the effects of alkalis, salts and acids);
  • from physical processes( fluid leaks, temperature changes, erosion);
  • from corrosion of the reinforcement, due to carbonation, the effects of salts, humidity, and carbon dioxide.

However, whatever the reasons, as well as the nature of the damage, they must be immediately eliminated, becauseThese cracks in themselves serve as a source for further destruction of the structure. In order to implement restoration of concrete , it is necessary to visually inspect the damage and choose the required repair method.

Repair of cracks in concrete - choose the method of

One of the popular ways of repairing concrete bases is injection. The essence of this method is that the restoration work is carried out without partial replacement of the concrete structure, but thanks to "injections" in the cracks and cavities of polymeric materials. This kind of repair is especially recommended for large amounts of damage.

For the repair of vertical concrete surfaces, a method of applying a special mixture to the surface to be repaired can be used. The repair mixture for concrete consists of a cement-sand mortar and a polymer additive. For this additive, furyl alcohol( 0.35% by weight of cement) and sulfanol( 0.02%) are used. After drying, the cured mixture for repairing concrete is covered with a polyurethane sealant.

Also repair of concrete and its restoration can be carried out by creating on the surface of an additional layer of the same material( by gunning with concrete mixture).The composition of the mixture for concrete includes: cement, water, fractional sand and organic additive( bitumen, latex, resin, etc.).But the use of this method is not always advisable, becauseit is quite laborious and at the same time leads to an increase in the mass of the structure, which entails an increase in the load on the foundation of the building.

In addition, when the additional layer dries up, its shrinkage will appear, which can lead to a rupture between the new and the old layer, and there will be no restoration of the structure.

Fixing cracks in concrete with their own hands

Often, from private developers you can hear the question, than to seal cracks in concrete? When performing repair work at home, usually used liquid cement "dough", cement mortar with a special binding agent, solutions with polyester or epoxy resin, as well as patented repair mixtures.

Repair of cracks in concrete up to 3 mm is carried out by a liquid cement "test" or a patented mixture. Wider caverns, as well as places where concrete has peeled off, are repaired with a patented solution or a special mixture. Mixing ratio for concrete: 1 part Portland cement, 3 parts sand and water, as well as PVA glue.

Fixing cracks in concrete requires preliminary preparation. First, it is necessary to clean the surface with water, a brush and a detergent. Surplus water is removed with a sponge. Minor cracks expand with a spatula and deepen to 5 mm so that the cement-lime mortar fills the whole space well. We strengthen deeper and larger cracks with the "Bulgarian", for this we saw through the transverse grooves.

If the cracked fittings are visible in the crack, it must be cleaned and treated with a special preparation that protects against corrosion. The previously cleaned sulcus is laid pieces of wire with a diameter of about 4 mm.

Use a brush to apply a primer, its thickness is approximately 3 mm. Carefully and evenly distribute it throughout the repair surface. After that, we put the repair mixture( the primer has not dried out yet).

When the cement-lime mixture is applied, it must be periodically moistened, but if the joints are filled with polymeric compounds, moistening is not necessary. The surface is leveled with a spatula. In a day, it is desirable to cover the repaired surface with paint.
