Plywood laminated for formwork - a reusable material

Plywood laminated as a formwork material

Laminated plywood is a very important material for monolithic construction. It is moisture resistant, not subject to changes in temperature, has a stable geometric shape and is resistant to mechanical stress. In addition, she has a very affordable price. It is produced in thickness from 6 to 24 millimeters, which makes it possible to use the material for a variety of tasks.

Tip! When purchasing a product, make sure that it is made from solid veneer, and not lumpy, as this strongly affects the physical and mechanical properties.

For the production of laminated plywood birch of middle age is used. Working on modern technology, it acquires all its qualities and durability. Its wear resistance is achieved due to the processing of the material with a special composition with inclusion of melamine or phenol. Due to this, the material has a low vulnerability to mold, fungi and alkalis. Also, which is very important for formwork, laminated plywood has a low level of adhesion to concrete. This factor allows to use it in a multiple technological cycle.

Veneer formwork with their own hands

Plywood formwork with its own hands is quite simple. Consider the whole process:

  • Installing the bars. Plywood will be attached to them, so this process needs to be given a lot of attention. The main task is to install them strictly vertically, otherwise the foundation of the house will not be smooth enough. Bars dig in such a depth that when trying to shake them was good stability.
  • Fastening of plywood. The material must be secured from the inside, while the screws can be twisted from inside as well as from the outside. If the screws are twisted from the outside, then the formwork will be much easier to disassemble. When installing, carefully check the flatness of the surface horizontally and vertically with a level. On the horizontal end you can determine the places where there is not enough concrete for the ideal plane.
  • Installation of struts. Spacers are installed in steps of approximately one meter. They are needed to ensure that when pouring concrete plywood does not buckle, because at the same time the work will be spoiled, and more cement will be needed.

Note! How much the concrete must dry can be read in the instructions for using this material.

Plywood laminated for formwork: material care

Laminated plywood in the formwork is exposed to concrete, which has water, abrasive elements and active chemical elements. The solution does not give any negative effect on the plywood, but its abrasive elements are very dangerous. Therefore, damages on the protective layer contribute to the rapid destruction of the internal veneer. Avoid this can only one way - careful exploitation and care for plywood. Careful operation - this is a neat installation and dismantling, and care - timely cleaning of the surface.

Assembly and dismantling is not an easy task, only labor discipline is needed. So, do not throw plywood, it is necessary to place it neatly on the surface without protruding elements. Plywood must be cleaned after each use, because if it does not, its service life will decrease. It is also possible to lubricate the surface with hydrophobic compounds, which will increase their water repellency and reduce friction. The composition is applied by spraying or spreading.

Note! The assortment of hydrophobic materials on the market is very large, so there will be no problems with their choice.
