How to build a swimming pool with your own hands

To date, several varieties of pools have been developed, with the majority of which can be managed on their own. The best option - a full monolithic pool of concrete. This design is characterized by the highest reliability and durability.

Swimming pool development area

Choose a convenient place for building a swimming pool.

The main thing is that the space is not covered by trees. Because of the trees, the water in the pool will not be able to warm up properly and, in addition to this, will constantly be polluted by fallen leaves.

Also, low-lying areas are not suitable for swimming pools. With a similar arrangement, water will be constantly polluted by rainwater.

Marking and digging of the excavation

Armed with tape measure, stakes and cord, proceed to the marking of the construction site.

Dimensions of the site for construction should be 0.5 m higher than the dimensions of the future basin on each side. To mark the boundaries, pound the pegs into the ground and pull a cord between them.

Completely remove the top fertile ground ball.

Dig the required size of the pit, and the bottom of the pit should be about 25-30 cm below the desired depth of the pool.

Carefully level the pit walls. The bottom of the pit should be given a slight slope.

Construction of a monolithic basin

Proceed directly to the construction of a monolithic basin.

Lay a 20-30-centimeter layer of sand on the bottom of the excavation. Thoroughly pound the stacked material and cover it with waterproofing.

In the modern market a wide range of effective waterproofing materials is presented. Ruberoid is suitable for providing high-quality moisture protection. This is a practical, reliable and inexpensive material.

Lay roofing material. You can use molten bitumen to fix the material.

Put a waterproof surface with stones. On top of the stone layer, lay the finished reinforcing mesh or make it yourself from metal bars.

Arrange the drainage pit. Its depth should somewhat exceed the depth of the main body of water. Install a drain pipe in the pit. The end of this pipe must be introduced into the reservoir. Fit the pipe with a shut-off valve to drain the water.

Fill the drainage pit with a rather thick gravel layer. Install an overflow and skimmer system for water purification in the pool.

Set the reinforcing bars at a distance of 30 cm along the perimeter of the pit. Between the reinforcement and the edges of the reservoir, maintain a 50 mm gap. Fasten the bars of the reinforcement with wire.

Fold the formwork out of the boards. Between the formwork and the walls of the pit, maintain a 15-centimeter gap.

At the same stage, install pipes and equipment for pumping and supplying water. Or you can use external systems from pumps and hoses - as you prefer.

Begin the concreting of the pool. You can order a mixture or make it yourself.

Pour concrete gradually and slowly, with a horizontal layer.

The voids between the formwork boards and the walls of the pit also fill with mortar. Give the mixture a month for a set of strength and proceed to the development of the pool.

Do it yourself at your discretion. You can peel the bowl with tiles. Alternatively, you can lay the bottom of a 10-centimeter layer of clean sand, and then the pool will look like a pond of natural origin.

Other options for private pools

Frame systems

Similar constructions are constructed from wood with a finish covering of tin or aluminum. Aluminum sheets have an attractive appearance and exceed the tin in terms of reliability and service life.

Strapping frames are created from a pine beam. Intermediate parts can be made from any thick quality boards. To provide additional rigidity of the construction, braces of strong boards are used.

Among the main advantages of frame pools is the lack of the need for large volumes of excavation and the possibility of dismantling the structure during the cold season.

The water in a similar pool is replaced with a flexible garden hose, which can be conveniently fixed at the bottom of the tank. The waste water from the pool can be used for watering the garden.

All joints of frame construction are subject to mandatory sealing. To give the construction of the required tightness, even an ordinary polyethylene film is suitable.

Wooden elements must be treated with an antiseptic.

The arrangement of frame pools usually takes less money than the cost of erecting a monolithic structure, while such water bodies have a fairly solid appearance and fit well into the design of the site.

Pools made of PVC film

To equip the pool, even conventional polyvinyl chloride film can be used if desired. This material has a rather attractive appearance and acceptable performance characteristics.

The film normally transfers contacts with water, ensures proper tightness of the structure and allows saving on the waterproofing of the reservoir.

Even with the appearance of cracks in the tank, a properly installed PVC film will retain water.

PVC film can be used both for the arrangement of a new pond and for the repair of an old basin. At the same time, for the construction of such a structure, there is no need to perform extensive excavation: the elements of the film are simply fastened by the method of temperature welding, which results in a very strong bowl.

The swimming pool is installed on a pre-prepared base and fixed by a frame of planks.

Pools made of fiberglass

Pools based on fiberglass are very popular for today. This sturdy material tolerates even the most serious mechanical loads and does not need any additional coating.

Among the shortcomings of this design can be distinguished except that the need to compulsorily summarize all communications.

The bowl is mounted on a solid concrete base.
