The main characteristics of copper pipes

ipp

The ductility of annealed copper tubing and the strength of non-annealed copper pipes make them an almost universal tool in the hands of the designer of pipeline systems of any purpose. The possibility to choose products of different quality( from M1 to M3), diameter, specific weight with a wide range of fittings makes it possible to optimize the layout of the pipeline in residential and industrial buildings.

Technical requirements for these products for many years have been standardized by GOST 617, which has undergone many revisions( the latter was released in 2006), but retained the basic provisions:

  • copper pipes can be operated in a wide temperature range from -200 to +250 degrees, It applies both to the parameters of the coolant and to the conditions of the external environment;
  • are produced in two types: seamless and welded, differing in technology of production and operational properties;by the method of production: cold-deformed and pressed;
  • on chemical composition are divided into seven types, differing in the content of alloying additives( bismuth, iron, zinc, tin, etc.) with a proportion of pure copper( + silver) from 99.5 to 99.9%;
  • The weight of copper pipes is determined by their size( outer diameter and wall thickness) and depends on the manufacturing method;The product range includes a diameter calibration of 3 to 360, and a shell from 0.8 to 10 mm.

Advantages and disadvantages of copper pipes

  1. The main advantage of red metal pipelines lies in the almost absolute chemical inertness of such structures to most aggressive environments. It can be not only contaminated water, but also oils, alkalis and acids of low concentration, special industrial wastewater.
  2. Low coefficient of thermal expansion allows to operate pipe constructions from Cu + Ag in systems with high differences of internal and external temperatures.
  3. The ductility and ductility of the metal make it possible to produce a wide range of tubular products of various sizes( from 3 to 360 mm in external diameter) and accordingly in weight, i.e. the total range of copper pipes according to GOST - 130 positions.
  4. The high specific gravity of the material is 8920 kg / m3( for comparison, the figure is 7800 for the steel, and only 900 for plastic plastics), which provides mechanical strength and long life( up to 80 years) of copper pipelines. True, this parameter, directly determining the weight of a copper pipe, is often attributed to their shortcomings. The issue is controversial, we will discuss it separately.
  5. The main obstacle to the widespread introduction of red metal pipe structures is their price. A copper pipe 1/2( 12.7 mm) on average costs 160 rubles.for lm, which is 2.5 times more expensive than steel analogues. But from the point of view of operational costs, such comparisons are not entirely correct.

Marking, dimensions and weight of copper pipes

In order not to get confused in the designations of the pipe assortment, remember that according to GOST 617 all dimensions are given on a metric scale and 30x5.0 for pressing or 27x0.1 for cold-formed copper pipes mean exactly those dimensions in millimetersouter diameter and wall thickness) that you see. The notation in inches 1/2, 3/4 or in the version 27/1 mm is also possible.

The choice of materials for the design of technological networks primarily takes into account their technical characteristics and operating conditions of the system. Due to its unique properties( strength, ductility, corrosion resistance), copper pipes, in spite of their fair price and weight, are in many cases irreplaceable. For example, when choosing metal pipes for heating, operating under conditions of increased working and pressure pressure with a chemically active coolant.

If to understand, the difference in weight of copper and steel pipes is not so great( for section 12х1,0 or 1/2 accordingly 307 and 271 grams / running meter).With polymer development, copper successfully competes in the process of operation, with a smaller 4 times the cross section, keeping an equal hydraulic head. This, too, should be paid attention before going to the construction markets.
