Types of polyethylene pipes
There are three types of polyethylene products according to the manufacturing method:
- high pressure polyethylene( HDPE) pipes:
- pipes made of low pressure polyethylene( HDPE);
- polyethylene pipes of medium pressure( PSD).
Products made from polyethylene of different degrees of pressure also have different applications. Let us consider each separately.
HDPE Pipes This method of polyethylene production provides products made from it with a sufficiently high strength and high pressure resistance, which is created by pressure in the middle of the pipe. High-pressure pipelines made of HDPE pipes are resistant to mechanical damage. It is these requirements and to be presented to this product in accordance with GOST.
LDPE pipes
Pipes made of high-density polyethylene are used in cases where the mechanical strength of the product is not very important. Such a pipeline is a sewage system, which is laid underground using an additional protective shell. Also pipes of this kind of manufacture have found wide application at a laying of electric cables under a ground. According to GOST, it is possible to produce corrugated pipes for various purposes. For example, for laying in trenches of arbitrary shape and depth. It should be noted that polyethylene has such a characteristic as a low melting point - from 60 ° C to 135 ° C.This fact should be taken into account when using the pipeline, according to its functional purpose.
Field of application of polyethylene pipes
According to the current GOST, polyethylene pipes can be used only in the absence of high temperatures. For example:
- for supplying users with cold water;
- for sewerage purposes;
- when conducting electrical work;
- for laying a low-pressure gas pipeline;
- in the irrigation system
The state standard No. 18599 for the year 2001 imposes the following requirements for polyethylene pipes:
- no release of harmful substances during the supply of drinking water;
- storage of PE pipes must be carried out with the satisfaction of fire safety requirements.
In addition to these general requirements, sewer polyethylene pipes, according to GOST, must be provided with appropriate marking and color. PE pipes are produced simply in blue or black with 4 longitudinal yellow( or blue) stripes.
Operating marking
The function is determined by the valid marking:
- Polyethylene pipes of the PE32 -100 grades are used for the pressure pipeline. The figures in the designation of pipe brands indicate the density of polyethylene.
- The lower the density, the higher the pressure at which the products were manufactured. LDPE pipes have a density of 79 and below, HDPE from 80 to 100.
- GOST 18599 - 2001 prescribes the use of polyethylene pipes for cold water supply and sewerage.
The wall thickness and pipe diameter are also regulated by the standard. The maximum permissible pipe wall thickness, according to GOST, is 58.8 mm with a diameter of 120 cm. Such a sewer pipe withstands working pressure of 16 atmospheres. These values are sufficient for equipping the pipeline for cold water supply.
