Installation of a sink in the counter - we determine the way
The choice of this or that method of installation is determined by the features of the kitchen furniture and the desire of the customer. Mortice sinks can be installed above, flush or below the countertop. The latter two are completely separate bowls of various shapes without flanges. Such installation of mortise sinks creates a lot of advantages:
- is very hygienic;
- easy maintenance of the working surface;
- extension of the work area;
- large assortment of all kinds of washers and accessories to them;
- aesthetic appearance.
For any installation option, it is necessary to seal the seams. The only inconvenience of mortise washing is the supply of communications, for the implementation of which it is necessary to penetrate the sink or turn the countertop.
Installation of the mortise washer is somewhat more expensive in installation, but it compensates for this by the lack of dampness between the cupboards of the kitchen furniture, which is possible in the case of a cabinet with a sink. The basic difference between the two types of sinks consists in the construction of the rim and brackets, in the mortise sink, the rim has a height of about 5 mm, and for the clamp the stamped edge is 3 cm.
Often, experts are asked how to install a round sink. In principle, the difference between the installation of a rectangular sink and a circular one practically does not exist. Below, we will describe how, following the advice, install an in-line stainless steel washer( the most popular material) with your own hands using conventional power tools.
Installation of the sink in the worktop from the chipboard( the most common version of the kitchen countertop) is carried out using a pencil, tape measure, ruler, a building angle, a Phillips screwdriver, a knife. And also power tools: electric jigsaw, electric drills, self-tapping screws and silicone sealant.
Installation of a mortise sink - mark the territory of the
The installation of a sink in the countertop begins with the marking of the area where it will be mounted. Typically, the distance from the front edge of the countertop is at least 50 mm, and from the back - about 25 mm or less. But these figures are not absolute and universal, in each case they may be different, depending on the size of the sink, the features of the frame, as well as from the kitchen furniture.
On the countertop with a pencil we draw two perpendicular( 90˚) lines, the center of their intersection denotes the center of the bowl, and mark the edges of the edges. After this, the inverted washer is put on the made markings and carefully outlines the outer contour of the product.
In addition to the product itself, the fastening elements must also be included. Manufacturers complete their products with different types( metal or plastic).If there is a choice, it is better to give preference to all-metal, they are more reliable in operation. Install the latches on the sink, and those that are attached to the countertop, you need to put a little aside.
The next step is to accurately measure the width of the bead, taking into account all the lugs of the fasteners. Usually for stainless steel sinks this width is about 12 mm. On the countertop, parallel to the drawn outer contour, but inside it, we draw another contour( the cutting line).
It should be drawn in such a way that the wash bowl can subsequently enter into it. To do this, from the outer contour, retreat inwards to the width of the rim, allow a gap of about 2 mm from each side and draw an inner contour from the hand.
How to cut the sink into the tabletop - we make the hole for the
To cut the hole in the worktop, in the tabletop in one( if the sink is round) or 4-5 places( with a rectangular or trapezoidal), make a through hole so that it is inside the second contour, close to the cutting line, but did not touch it.
Drill a hole only from the front side of the countertop. It will be the place where the jigsaw of the saw will go. After this, we make a closed cut through the cutting line. In the process, it is necessary periodically to insert into the slot self-tapping screws, which will perform the function of temporary fasteners, in order to prevent the sawed countertop from falling down. After that, we lower the sink in the sawn hole and check the correctness of the work done.
If the sink is free to enter and has a slight backlash, then everything is done correctly, if not, then a jigsaw is required. After that, we clean the sawed walls of the countertop against dust and apply a silicone sealant.
We glue the sealant to the edge of the sink along the entire contour. If it somewhere protrudes more than 1 mm, it must be pruned with a knife. When the seal is in place, apply a continuous strip of silicone sealant to it. Now we are close to how to install a sink in the counter.
Assembly of the sink in the worktop - the finishing line
Having lowered the sink in the hole, align it with the first contour. After that, we take 2-4 pre-postponed fastenings and fix the product( but do not tighten to the end), while constantly monitoring its position relative to the contour.
When the product is clearly positioned on the layout of the primary circuit, finally tighten all fasteners. Indirect confirmation of the correct installation is the squeezed sealant. Clean wipe the markings and excess sealant and leave the whole construction for a day to cure the sealant.
We hope that after reading this article, questions about how to install an in-car wash will disappear, or at least, they will be much less.
