How to raise the roof of a house

One way to increase the living space in the house is to install an attic in the attic. Unfortunately, this is not always possible due to low-lying roofing. However, this problem can also be solved without even resorting to dismantling. To do this, you just need to know how to raise the roof of the house. If you solve this problem, you can build any room, at least a bedroom, even a nursery, even a study.

Raised over the house roof allows you to arrange a second floor or an attic without dismantling the roofing structures

The raised roof above the house makes it possible to arrange a second floor or an attic without dismantling the roofing structures.

Preparatory stage

Before starting to lift the roof, it is necessary to strengthen the roof base itself. For these purposes, it is most expedient to use a metal frame, which is made of a channel. Cable-drawn stretches must be made of reinforcing bars with a diameter of 14 mm. As guide rails, special support legs will be used, which provide an easy lifting, which excludes displacement to the side.

To fasten the channel to the surface of the bar, it is necessary to prepare screws 10 cm in length, 10 mm in diameter. Centrally positioned channel bars are fastened directly to the beam, metal ears around them are welded to them. Through them the channel will be fastened to the beam by means of screws. As practice shows, you may need at least 70 screws with a diameter of 8 millimeters. Channel bars are used 2 times less, while their strength will be sufficient to keep the roof. In addition, their further use is entirely permissible for the installation of an overlap between the attic and the premise of the first floor. The weight of the channels, which will be used to strengthen the roof of the house, can reach 2.3 tons.

How to mount the supporting legs

The purpose of the supporting legs is to provide easy lifting and avoiding displacement to the sides. Support legs can reach a weight of 1.4 tons. It consists of the fact that each of the 4 legs weighs 350 kg. The height is 2.9 meters, and between each other the legs are connected by horizontal channel bars of grade 8U.The product has a length of 0.385 m. The distance between the horizontal channels of the supporting legs is 0.25 m. Spacers of grade 10 y are used for the production of inclined channels. At an inclination of 45 degrees their length makes one and a half meter.

If you comply with the proposed size, you can get support legs that have the necessary strength. The permissible wind load for such a structure is 73 meters per second. Such legs will hold a 100-ton roof without any problems. However, the device needs to perform both horizontal and wind load calculations. You need to place support legs in those places where there is a main wall in the house or a partition of half the standard brick. This will not worry about the fact that the construction can destroy the floor overlap.

Roof lifting procedure

To properly carry out the process of lifting the roof, you need to prepare tools such as:

  • Jack with a hydraulic drive.
  • Metal fittings.
  • Posts of reinforced concrete.
  • Standard metal strip.
  • Gvozdoder.
  • Hammer.
  • Channel bars.
  • Screws with required parameters.

After the preparatory work is finished, you can start lifting the roof. For these purposes, a hydraulic jack is used, which can lift a weight of at least 12 tons. You can take two jacks, but this can lead to poor stability of the structure while lifting from 2 control points. In the process of recovery for safety, special substrates must be used, which are made from a square tube or from trimmings of channels. The crosspieces located on the supports must be at least 25 cm apart. Twelve transverse rings must be used for each support. In order to achieve the desired height, the free space between the crossbeams is laid, made of square supports or channels, with substrates.

The crossbars located on the supports must be at least 25 cm from each other

The crossbars located on the supports must be at least 25 cm apart from each other.

The roof of the house is raised not simultaneously, but in turn from each corner by about 5 centimeters in one pass. Moving in a circle, and making a gradual climb from different points, you need to gain a height of 25 cm. The crossbars are welded to the supports only after this height is reached. After raising the roof by 185 cm, in parallel begin to produce a brick laying for the outer wall. The climb to this height takes at least 3 days. In the clutch should be used reinforcement belt. Following the lifting of the entire roof, the jack supports also rise. Installed on the same base on which the roof rests. To make a full attic, the roof needs to be raised to a height of about 287 cm. This will take approximately 12 days. All the space between the ceiling and the roof is filled around the perimeter with brick walls.

The attic space unit

After the roof is raised and the walls are replaced, the window blocks are defined in the appropriate openings, the formation of which must be carried out simultaneously with the laying of the walls. Warming of the under-roof space is made after the complete installation of the walls. At the same time, good protection against penetration from the outside of the water should be provided. For attic space, it is necessary to provide good insulation, as the attic has a large area of contact with the external environment.

Most often, mineral wool is used for this, which is a material of fibers with excellent thermal insulation qualities. Waterproofing on a heater is arranged not only outside, but also indoors. To make it qualitative, you need to use special membrane films. The heater must be of good quality as the attic will be used all year round. The attic itself should have a multi-layer construction, which includes a vapor barrier, waterproofing, insulation, roofing, and interior decoration of the premises. It must necessarily be arranged ventilation, which will protect it from the appearance of mold, fungus and dampness. Between the warming layer and the roof you need a large gap, the thickness of which should be from 2.5 to 5 cm. This depends on the roofing material.

You can install vertical or inclined windows in the raised roof, which are often used for attic rooms. To build vertical windows is much more difficult than inclined, as it requires for each window to construct its rafter system. The use of the 2 options has other pluses. Inclined windows allow more light to penetrate into the room. According to the regulations, windows should occupy about 12% of the entire surface of the walls.

. The roof lifting operation and the construction of residential buildings under it is a laborious process that requires serious material costs and the participation of professional builders. Therefore, if you independently implement these works, you need to carefully study the theoretical basis of technology. It is advisable to consult with specialists before starting work.
