In order for the garage to be more comfortable to work with, and your car has served you much longer, it is worth to insulate the garage.
Sharp outdoor temperature changes can lead to rust, as a result of temperature fluctuations on the car can form condensation. In a warm garage this can not be.
If you have a heated garage, it should be insulated in order to keep the heat more efficient. This will save you the money that you spend on heating.
There are many ways to warm the garage. Whatever you choose, remember that you need to leave the ventilation. The garage should receive 190 cubic meters of air per hour, provided that there is only one car in the garage. It is desirable that the temperature in the garage does not fall below + 5. .. +10 degrees.
When warming the garage, do not make it too hot. The fact is that if there is room temperature in the garage and there is a minus one on the street, you will subject the car to a sharp temperature drop if you drive from the street to a warm garage. The machine will show moisture, which greatly contributes to the formation of rust.
Pay attention to that, so that your heater applies to non-flammable materials, as in a garage there is often a danger of fire. A good insulation must also be waterproof.
How is insulation made?
Approaching the insulation of a metal garage is necessary in stages. To cut off a heater it is necessary doors, walls and a ceiling. The most convenient insulation for metal garage is mineral wool.
It is quite easy to mount, it does not burn, it gives good insulation and is inexpensive relative to its counterparts. Glass wool is not much cheaper than mineral wool, however it is easily flammable and spoils from moisture. You can also use polystyrene foam for warming the garage. This material gives good insulation, is soundproof, resistant to moisture. The usual foam plastic melts, but there is a foam, impregnated with the composition "PBS-C", which, when in contact with fire, will go out. Only such polystyrene is suitable for the insulation of the garage. Another undoubted advantage of polystyrene foam is that it is easy to install.
Liquid foam insulation or other similar materials may be used.
How to conduct work?
Before proceeding to work, the garage must be freed from all objects in it. After that you can start.
If the walls of your garage are crumpled, they should be aligned. It is necessary to wash all the dirt from the walls, so that they do not have stains of oil, paint or other components.
For the installation of foam sheets, you will need to attach the L-shaped profile to the top and bottom of the wall. It is metal and serves as a stop for sheets of polystyrene foam. To the walls the foam is fixed with a special glue. The glue spreads through the wall pointwise or is smeared with a spatula. Starting work is most convenient from the bottom of the wall. Each row needs to be stacked by bandaging the seams. The glue will dry completely in three days. For beauty, you can cover sheets of foam plastic with a plaster net and paint it with paint for the facades.
If you plan to use mineral wool, you will have to make a crate. It can be made of wood or metal profiles. If a wooden beam is used, it must be pretreated with a composition against fire.
The cladding is knocked off by nails or assembled with self-tapping screws. You can tighten the metal elements with bolts. Should be obtained square cells with a step of not more than 60 cm. The lining is attached to the wall. Mineral wool is inserted into the cells, after which the frame is closed with sheets of plasterboard.
How to insulate the garage ceiling
The easiest way to use foam is because it does not require a birch, and making it on the ceiling is extremely inconvenient and generally not recommended. The method of fixing the foam plastic is the same as for wall warming.
When warming the garage, it is important to pay attention to the insulation of its gate. The gates occupy a large enough space, and since the garage is metal, they are cold. Through the gate, moisture can penetrate and cold air can blow.
For gates traditionally use expanded polystyrene. It has an advantage over mineral wool, as the latter spoils under the influence of moisture and requires the installation of a crate. Foam polystyrene can burn, however, after processing it with a special compound, you do not have to worry about it.
The foam polystyrene panels can be fixed with mounting glue. You need to arrange the sheets with offset. Slots between them fill with mounting foam, then all this is covered with foil and fixed with glue. Do not forget to leave a gap for ventilation. On top, the construction is lined with embroidery. You can replace it with a plastic analog. Plastic for interior decoration of buildings is easier to install and, unlike wooden elements, it does not burn. It is not recommended to use for this purpose sheets of corrugated board, as they are metal and will reduce the quality of thermal insulation.
