Plaster of facades - we direct an external shine

Facade plastering - what is it and why to use it?

Plaster facade for many years ahead determines the external appearance of the structure and its performance characteristics. Like any facing material, plaster, in addition to decorative functions, is designed to counteract the destructive influence of the environment, while improving the thermal and sound insulation characteristics of the building.

Plastering of facades allows to level the surface of the wall, hide the seams of masonry and various minor defects. As a building material, plaster is a mixture of astringent components and fillers. The latter are lime, sand, gypsum, cement.

As a rule, finishing the facade with plaster is not the final step: paint is applied to the treated and leveled surface. True, there are also decorative samples containing dyes in their composition and therefore suitable for the finish coat. However, their application requires particularly careful surface treatment with grouts, putty, and then applying primer paint.

Recently, a simple application of facade plaster directly to the walls of the building has been replaced by their preliminary insulation with mineral wool or polystyrene, on which reinforced mesh is attached. Facing materials are various types of plaster facades, which we consider below.

Types of plaster facades - brief facts

Acrylic plaster is sold ready for use. Binder is a dispersion of acrylic resins, thanks to which the coating has the ability to pass steam. This indicates that the excess moisture in the walls will evaporate unhindered, which, in turn, will significantly reduce the humidity of the air inside the room. Acrylic coating is elastic and resistant to temperature changes.

Mineral plaster is known as the most durable kind, because cementitious substance in it is cement or lime. In addition, it is the cheapest in its class. It is produced in the form of a mixture of dry astringents, various additives and filler-crumbs. The main drawback is a limited color scheme. The consumption of the facade plaster is 16.5 kg per square meter with a layer of 10 mm.

Silicate plaster should be considered as a mineral variety. The binder is a potassium liquid glass. It is ready for use. The main advantage - an excellent steam throughput. It can be used where acrylic plaster, say, on cellular concrete is not suitable.

Silicone plaster is the most expensive kind. Produced on the basis of astringent polymer compositions. It is elastic, has high vapor permeability and can be painted in different colors. And another property distinguishes it against the background of other finishing materials - the ability to self-cleaning: rain water quickly removes dust and dirt from it.

Facade plaster - the main rules of work

The technology of plastering facades with the samples considered above is the same for all types and it is quite easy to do it yourself. About how the plaster of the facade is applied, the video attached to this article is informed in sufficient detail and clearly, and we recall the main stages of the work and their features.

Recall that before plastering the facade of the house, you should thoroughly prepare it: remove the old covering, make serifs on the surface, and clean the seams of the masonry to the greatest possible depth. All this will ensure an increase in adhesion and prevent the shedding of plaster.

Then, the composition prepared according to the instructions on the package is sprayed onto the wall with a force so that it adheres to the wall, but does not splatter on either side. After a few hours( the exact time is indicated on the package), you can begin grouting a special board with two handles, making it rotational movements.
