Carrying out the installation of a chimney in the bath with your own hands is not the easiest task, but it is quite feasible. In any sauna there is an oven, thanks to which it warms up.

If the oven is electric, then there is no need to put a chimney. If the furnace is gas or is heated with solid fuel, the installation of a chimney for the extraction of spent fuel is necessary.

The most common device is a chimney made of bricks and metal.

By the way of installation, the structures are divided into internal( passing inside) and external( located outside the bath and passing through the wall and ceiling).

  1. The chimney made of bricks is most often chosen for a bath, since this design is extremely durable and durable. It is better to hire a professional for these purposes or as an alternative to conduct a chimney device made of metal;
  2. Installation of a metal chimney( for example, a sandwich construction) is much simpler, and the material at the same time is much cheaper than bricks. The disadvantages of such a sandwich structure of pipes include the condensate formed on the inner surface of the pipe, as well as the need for good thermal insulation( if done correctly, the condensate will not be a significant problem);
  3. Chimneys made of ceramics are installed both inside the bathhouse and outside. Ceramic chimney is a construction built of parts of various sizes, in the creation of which burnt clay is used. This makes it possible not only to make the smooth surface of the pipes( through which smoke and soot pass well), but also to maintain a low thermal conductivity. But to install a properly ceramic chimney is rather difficult, the work assumes the presence of certain skills, so novices do not do this by their own hands.

The installation of this chimney is rather complicated and labor-intensive, which can complicate the installation of pipes with your own hands( it is required to break through the ceiling and roof, and also require a high-quality pipe sealing).

In addition, the internal chimneys have one important drawback: if a fissure is formed in the pipe or a more serious damage occurs, a smoke from the sauna may occur, and even a fire hazard may appear.

The chimney unit is connected on one side with the oven, and on the other hand it is led out through the wall to the outside.

The location of the structure on the exterior of the building reduces the risk of pipe damage and excludes the possibility of a related fire.

If you are planning to build your own design, you need to think carefully about the shape and calculate the correct size correctly.

The choice of pipe diameter is primarily affected by the capacity of the sauna oven.

Do not forget about the possible difficulties with which smoke can escape from the furnace, so the design diagram should be properly worked out.

Let's study the possible shapes and dimensions of chimneys for this:

  • The design of absolutely straight and straight chimneys is considered not very profitable and effective due to high thermal emission, which further causes an obvious over-expenditure of the fuel used for heating the steam room;
  • There are chimneys with elbows and pipes not exceeding 1m in length. Installation of such chimneys is difficult to do by one's own hands, but they have high productivity. The chimney must in this case have a cylindrical shape. Installation in this case should be based not only on the construction rules for installation, but also on the characteristics of the type of roof and the dimensions of nearby buildings;
  • If the roof is flat, then the minimum height of the pipe should be 1m, if the bath has a sloping roof, then the pipe should exceed the roofing horse by at least 1.5m in height. The length of the pipe from the pipe to the ridge must be slightly more than a meter;
  • The distance of the horizontal gaps should not exceed 1 m. This is quite understandable in that hot air, as is known, rises upward, and if it does not have the opportunity to do it through a certain length of travel, it will cause a weak draft and the formation of a large amount of soot on the walls of the pipes.

Assembling the chimney

The assembly begins with the bell of the furnace and rises to the ceiling using the "condensate" method. Access to the docking places remains open.

You can achieve full docking using a wooden kiyanku, and tapping it lightly on the material.
In this case, a complete sealing of the possible gaps is necessary.

This requires a sealant capable of withstanding about 1000 degrees of heat.

Fastening of docking connections of sandwich tubes is carried out with the help of crimping clamps( fastening elements, which connect the parts together, and ensure tightness of joints).

And now let's study how the installation scheme of this design is carried out:

  • We mount the pipes together using clamps;
  • For the elements of the structure we install the brackets for fixing the pipes( after 1.5 m).At the same time, make sure that the distance to the available communications is at least 1 m;
  • We install the working channels of the chimney sandwich along the walls of the bath. Tee at the same time we attach the support bracket;
  • If the wall next to which the chimney passes is made of wood, the structure should be wrapped with a non-combustible material, such as asbestos. If the wall was made of bricks, then they use a special apron;
  • We remove the horizontal pipe and conduct the installation of the tee and brackets necessary for fixing the vertical pipe;
  • The vertical pipe, as a rule, is assembled on the ground, and then already assembled into the knee( to simplify the process, hinges made by welding sheets of iron or cutting off pins) are used;
  • The vertical pipe is installed in a tee and fastened with pipe clamps. Mounting the hinge with the knee is also performed. In this case, it is necessary to add bolts( where this is possible) to the connection points of the pipes of the chimney sandwich;
  • After we stretch the remaining brackets( we first adjust the tension with our own hands, and after fixing the cable, we carry out adjustment through the screws).

We finish the installation, checking the chimney draft of the furnace in the bath.

We ignite a piece of newspaper and bring it to the hole in the oven. If the flame is deflected to the chimney, then there is traction and smoke can pass through the pipe.
