Inexpensive countertop in the bathroom with their own hands

Make a countertop in the bathroom with your own hands - it's inexpensive and affordable for everyone.

Finished models are quite expensive, so making a countertop with your own hands will not only save a significant amount of money, but also create original and functional furniture.

The main thing is to competently approach the choice of the material, which must be water resistant and resistant to various influences, and a large number of materials correspond to these requirements.

Consider the technology of making countertops in the bathroom from popular materials.

Production of plasterboard

Drywall is inexpensive, despite this, the finished furniture of this material has a very attractive appearance and is able to fit into the bathroom, decorated in any style.

All types of table tops are made from gypsum board.

Structure of the table top from plasterboard

The material has a drawback: the inability to preserve its properties for a long time in a room with a high level of humidity.

For this reason, the gypsum board worktop needs to be treated with a waterproofing coating or clad with mosaic or tile.

The following tools are required for operation:

  • jigsaw;
  • sealant;
  • screwdriver;
  • glue water resistant;
  • primer;
  • self-tapping screws.

The installation of the table top begins with the mounting of the guide profile to the wall at a height of 0.8 m from the floor.

Now, with the help of the guide profile, a frame is mounted on which the table top will be mounted. Then, according to the size of the frame, a workpiece under the countertop is cut from the drywall.

The workpiece is laid on a metal frame, after which a hole for the shell is drilled.

The cut out element serves as a template for the bottom of the skin.

The workpiece fixing to the frame starts from the bottom with the help of self-tapping screws. The table-top is required to be placed on supports that withstand heavy weight.

Therefore, now it is necessary to make two triangular braces of a steel profile, the length of which should be 2/3 of the width of the workpiece from gypsum board.

On the edge of the cutout in the workpiece, the braces are fixed to the guide, and from the bottom - at an angle of 90 degrees to each other, that is one - vertically along the wall, and the other - along the edge of the cutout.

A similar brace must be installed on the other edge of the cutout.

On top of the splits parallel to the wall of the room you need to attach the profile pieces. Slopes need to be sewn with a waterproof material, for example GVL.

Finally, fixing the drywall sheet and covering the ends is carried out.

Such countertop must be faced. This can be done using tiles or ceramic mosaic. The choice affects the style of the bathroom.

If the walls are covered with mosaic, then the surface of the countertop must be made of mosaic. However, the tile will be better than the mosaic, since it has fewer seams, which greatly simplifies the care of the surface.

The facing should be made even in hidden places to protect the drywall from water. Variants of the cladding are presented in the photo.

Consider the technology of laying the tiles for the countertop with your own hands.

First of all, plasterboard or plywood for the countertop in the bathroom must be covered with waterproofing material in two layers, for example bitumen mastic.

On top it is recommended to lay moisture-proof gypsum board, on which a hole under the sink must be cut beforehand.

On the plywood surface it is necessary to apply a tile adhesive, to it we firmly press the sheet ГВЛ.The place of connection with the wall must be treated with silicone. After that, the tiles are laid. D

For qualitative laying of tiles, you need to make a marking of the surface. For this, from the two edges, it is necessary to note the centers through which two straight lines are drawn, perpendicular to each other.

Facing of the countertop

Further to the bottom of the table top are attached the rails serving as beacons for fixing the tiles, which are the supports for the lining of the side parts. The construction must be primed.

After drying the primer, you can begin laying the tiles.

A trowel is applied to the tile with a trowel. Tiling starts from the corner. You have to check the level with the building level.

After facing the entire surface, you can proceed to grouting joints.

Grout is carried out with epoxy resin. Apply the composition with a spatula on the entire surface, after which excess epoxy resin is removed with a damp cloth.

Grouting is the final step in the laying of tiles with your own hands.

Artificial stone worktop

Artificial stone is used in many interiors and looks aesthetically pleasing and noble.

Characterized by long service life, strength and water resistance.

For the countertop, you can buy an artificial stone with a thickness of 0.3 cm.

For a bathroom table this thickness will be enough.

Installation of the countertop, made of artificial stone with their own hands, begins with the production of wall-side skirts, which serve as a support for the structure.

The sides are fixed with a special compound. All connections must be performed qualitatively, otherwise chips and cracks will appear soon.

Now you need to make a foundation. For this, an old countertop or plywood can be used. You can also place the countertop on the curbstone.

To form the frame, plywood is cut into strips 7 cm wide. If a 0.3 cm thick stone is used, the plywood must be used as a whole.

By means of a two-component adhesive, the stone is attached to a blank of plywood, and this can also be done using epoxy resin.

The adhesive base must be spread over the workpiece with a spatula.

On the reverse side of the sheet, the adhesive is applied only to the places where the stone is connected to the substrate. Then the stone should be pressed tightly, starting from the middle to the edges.

After the adhesive has dried, the ends are machined with a router. The ends need to be pasted with strips of artificial stone, which must be cleaned and degreased.

The electric jigsaw must be made with a hole for the sink. A tape of foil is glued along the circumference of the hole.

Variants of different countertops made of artificial stone can be seen in the photo.

Concrete production

Concrete is very often used for making countertops. This is due to certain reasons: the durability of concrete, durability and ease of installation when doing work with their own hands.

For concrete worktops, materials will be needed: cement M-400, fine-grained filler( river sand), bulk filler( gravel, granite, and also marble chips), plasticizers.

To create an unusual pattern in the concrete solution, burnt cullet, stains, and other dyes are added. Additives are distributed unevenly to obtain the original pattern.

The basis for this worktop is chipboard or laminated plywood, which must be moisture resistant. By patterns, a contour is marked, and the bars are screwed.

The hole for the sink should be marked in advance, and this area does not need to be poured with concrete, since then it will be difficult to remove it.

To simplify the finishing of the edges, it is recommended to make a facet at an angle of 45 degrees along the entire perimeter of the base.

The resulting frame must be filled with a concrete mixture. For more even distribution, it is recommended to use a vibrating table.

Also for this purpose you can use a special vibrator with nozzles penetrating deep into the solution.

To strengthen the table top the base is poured twice with a difference of 24 hours. After the first layer has dried, the reinforcing mesh is laid, which is then poured with a second layer of concrete.

After hardening of the mortar, it is necessary to remove the frame and turn the countertop by placing it on the bars. Then the surface should be sanded with a grinder and wipe with a damp cloth.
