If you leave everything unchanged, that is - install a bath and do not close the space between the wall andboard, then even a small gap can bring many problems. Starting from the fact that the appearance of the bathroom will be ruined, and after all we tried to make a beautiful renovation in this room, so that everything was clean and tidy everywhere. If at least a couple of times to take a shower in such a bath, through the cracks on the floor will seep water, and this is the additional humidity in the room and a direct path to the spread of fungus and mold. If the humidity level is high, then the room will dry very long, and if the dampness is constantly present, then as a result, fungus and mold will appear on the walls and corners of the bathroom. It is very difficult to get rid of such manifestations. To prevent moisture from entering the floor and walls under the bathroom, it is necessary to install a special curb for the bath. Thus, you can get rid of dampness, and you do not have to fight with a fungus. Border or skirting is specially designed to fill small crevices between the bathroom and the wall. Stacking the curb in the bathroom does not take long, if everything is done according to the rules.
There are several types of plinth for the bath. The choice of curb will depend on the finishing material of the walls in the bathroom. For example, if you laid a ceramic tile, then it is desirable to install a ceramic border too. For those who like to constantly change the interior in their homes, there are also many finishing materials for the bathroom. If you have chosen wallpaper, washable wallpaper, or wall-lined PVC plastic panels, it fits well with these finishing materials of the PVC curb for the bath.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of
plastic panels? Most of the buyers managed to evaluate the positive aspects of such finishing material as plastic. It is suitable for every room, and is also widely used for working in the bathroom. Such plinth is inexpensive, and compact dimensions of the curb for the bath allow you to install this finishing material yourself without the involvement of specialists.
In building supermarkets you can purchase a plastic border of any size and color, which means that the bathroom interior will be observed.
It is very convenient that you do not need to prepare cement mortar for curb installation, it is enough to buy a special glue, which is often called "liquid nails".
Also on sale you can find self-adhesive plastic curbs for the bathroom in the form of tape, which greatly facilitate the installation process. You will only have to prepare the surface to make it absolutely dry and clean, then remove the protective coating from the back of the finishing material and glue the border to the bath. The peculiarity of mounting this type of plastic is the following: if you will glue the wallpaper or wall paneling, first you need to fill with sealant or cement slurry, large slits, and then paste the self-adhesive plastic panels.
Despite the simplicity of installation, an acceptable price and a wide choice of shades and sizes of plastic skirting, this finishing material also has drawbacks. The most important thing is fragility. After a year of operation, you will have to re-install the bathroom curb. And if your bathroom has high humidity, the room is often used, then you will have to replace the curb earlier. In addition, during the operation of the bathroom, you must constantly ensure that water does not seep into the floor through the curb. This is especially important if you set the screen on the bath and monitor the humidity level under the bathroom every day is not possible.

How to make a curb in the bathroom
The easiest and easiest way to fill small gaps between the bathroom and the wall is to glue the curb tape.
Features of work with a self-adhesive border:
- 90% of success in work is a preparation of a surface of a wall and a bath. We need to try to work out well the places where the curb will be laid, clean the wall and the side of the bath from grease, dirt and moisture. To do this, simple materials are best: any cleaning agent, you can take even baking soda, you can also use to degrease the surface of gasoline or alcohol.
- If you removed the old tape and want to paste a new one, the adhesive residues must be removed. Your actions are as follows: first remove the old tape, wipe the place with any detergent, you can even rub the side of the bath and the wall with a stiff brush, and then degrease the surfaces. To quickly dry the sticking zone, use a conventional hair dryer, and then wipe the surface with a dry clean rag.
- Now we cut off the necessary length of the tape with scissors, plus a stock of 2 cm.
- If you are covering complex areas, you can make small incisions on the tape to make it lie evenly.
- Begin to glue the surface from the corner, and it is better to clean the protective film gradually, as the tape is glued.
- Press the tape as tightly as possible. Stick a small area, equal to 10-15 cm, and now press down the palm of the tape and hold for 15 seconds.
- When the tape is glued completely, you can use the bathroom only after 24 hours, when the glue will seize well.
How to install a curb on a bath
Before you begin work on installing a curb on a bath, you need to prepare materials and tools to keep everything at hand.
What we need to work:
- plastic border;
- silicone adhesive;
- aquarium sealant( liquid silicone);
- gun sealant;
- household or building hair dryer;
- adhesive tape;
- narrow spatula;
- ruler and pencil;
- chair;
- construction knife;
- paper towels, clean rag.
If you will work with a plastic border for the first time, then do not be lazy to buy a chair. You can buy the cheapest model from plastic, which is enough for cutting corners of plastic skirting. Do not disregard this advice, since manually correctly fitting the corners will be very difficult. To install a plastic curb on the bathroom, you will need 1 can of silicone sealant.
Preparatory moments. It is important to clean the surface of dirt. If before you used a bathroom with a plastic skirting board and it has already deteriorated, it needs to be removed, cleaned off the glue and thoroughly disinfected the surface with a chlorine solution. After disinfection, wash the treatment area and dry it with a hairdryer. Now that the preparatory work has been completed, you can start laying the plastic skirting board.
Edging of skirting boards:
- Once again, walk along the edge of the bath and the wall with paper towels, and then with a dry rag. Carefully wipe those places where the plinth will adjoin. Your task is to achieve a perfectly dry surface.
- The gap must be filled with sealant, for this, a can of sealant( it is better to take an aquarium, it will last longer), insert it into the gun. Check it in action.
- Next, when the gap is filled with sealant, you need to wait 5-10 minutes, when it dries. Just at this time, you can try fitting the skirting board.
- Measure out the required length of the skirting board, cut the excess. Border better cut at an angle of 45oS.To do this, use the chair.
- Before gluing the plinth, paint the paint tape on the edge of the bath( 2 mm below and above where the plinth will be stuck), it will protect the enamel from damage. You can also paste a ribbon on the curb.
- Attach the plinth in the space between the bathroom and the wall, press it. Now bend the edge of the skirting board and insert the tip of the gun into the formed space. Fill the seam.
- Use a spatula to seal the sealant evenly over the entire surface.
- And now squeeze the curb to the edge of the bath and wait a few seconds. If you have an assistant, this part of the job is best done together, since the force of pressing affects the quality of gluing the border.
- After a few minutes, you can remove the paint tape.
- The protruding transparent adhesive must be wiped off immediately with a dry cloth, and the joints of the curbs are best insulated with sealant.
- You can only use the bathroom after a day, so do not rush to turn on the water. It is undesirable that the place of gluing the plastic skirting is water. By the way, it is better to keep the door to the bathroom open, and if you have a built-in fan, turn it on, the room should not be damp.
Such a plastic curb will last only a year, then it will have to be replaced with a new one.
Subtlety of work you need to know
It's not always nice to paste a plastic border.
To successfully accomplish the task, study these recommendations:
- is not always a plastic border mounted on a new bath. Most often it has to be mounted on an old bath. Soap residues and other soiling must first be washed with any detergent;
- when all dirt is washed off, the surface must be dried thoroughly. To do this, use disposable paper towels. Wipe the bathtub until the towel is completely dry;
- do not save on paper towels, it's impossible to achieve a perfectly dry surface with a rag;
- to fix the work can be using a hair dryer - direct a stream of warm air to a small area, hold the dryer for 30 seconds, now you can smoothly move on;
- do not forget to degrease the places of pasting the curb. To do this, use gasoline or white spirit, you can wipe the surface with alcohol. It is important to choose such a degreaser, so that it does not damage the plastic panels. It is forbidden to use aggressive solvents, they can spoil the coating on the walls and a bath of acrylic;
- apply glue on the whole surface, so that the border fits well to the board and wall. Try to make a solid seam, applying a thin layer of glue. Point adhesive during the installation of the border of plastic is not applied;
- if the wall is not perfectly level, and you see that in some places the border does not fit, then such places can additionally be filled with sealant to prevent leakage.
