After dismantling the door or partitions the formedThe opening must be filled with a design element. The best solution to this problem is to install the arch in the kitchen instead of the door. Arched opening favorably differs from other forms by its elegance, beauty of form and elegance. He can emphasize the original design of the kitchen, and given the large number of options for mounting the arch, perfectly complement any design solution.

Before you start the construction of the arch, you need to decide what type of construction you will use. It depends on the overall design of both the kitchen and the adjacent room. So, there are several basic types of arches:

  1. Wooden arch more suited to the classical interior of the kitchen. Such designs are made in woodworking workshops on special order. Mounted such an arch after the completion of the repair, because it is already covered with a special coating, which during the finishing works can be spoiled. This design differs in that it clearly separates the boundaries of the archway from the rest of the finish.
  2. Arch of plasterboard. This type of arches is used for design in the style of minimalism or hi-tech. This arch is mounted at the stage of finishing works. Unlike the wooden structure, it can be done by yourself. Any inaccuracies in the manufacture can later be corrected with a putty. Usually such an arched opening is not separated from the main finish.
  3. An arch of torn stone or brick. Repairs in the style of "loft" are quite popular recently. At their carrying out very often use a bricklaying or allocation of contours of an arch aperture artificial or natural stone. The erection of such a structure is not a simple matter and is subject only to a professional mason or clerk, however, it should be noted that the result is spectacular.

According to the arc type, the arches distinguish several types:

  1. Classics - arc with a rounded arc.
  2. An ellipse is an arc of an ellipse, that is, flattened to the center.
  3. Trapezium is an arch type whose arc is part of a trapezoid or an arc polygon.
  4. Portal is a rectangular arch.

It should be noted that this architectural element fits perfectly into the interior of small apartments, so that the arch to the kitchen in Khrushchevka will be an excellent solution.

This option is the most common. Strong sides of it can be considered simplicity in installation and cheapness of selected materials. Such arches are quite capable of performing even for an amateur who has an elementary set of tools. About how to make an arch to the kitchen with your own hands, next.

Installation procedure:

  1. First of all we have to mount a metal frame for our design. If the thickness of the wall of the opening is equal to the width of the standard profiles, then one profile can be used, if not, then make a design of several. In our case, the width of the doorway, which we will replace with the arch, is 112 mm, so for the design we use the profile UW 100.
  2. Cut out the profiles of the rack and the crossbar. The height of the columns will be equal to the radius of the future arch. To smooth the ends of the arch for a smooth transition in the doorway, at the ends of the racks, we cut the profile sidewalls.
  3. We mount the rack to the wall of the opening. To do this, we use a drill and fastening dowels. Drill drill a hole of the necessary diameter in the wall and profile and drive into it first the clip of the dowel, and then the nail.
  4. To the top of the opening, we fix the crossbar in the same way. We have a U-shaped structure. Then cut out two pieces of plasterboard in size equal to the dimensions of the structure. In the center of one piece we find the center. You can do this by simply drawing a diagonal with a thread, at the intersection of which will be the center of the piece.
  5. Next, draw an arc that connects the cent point and the corners of the plasterboard. It can be done quite simply. Take the flexible nails, attach its end to the edges of the plasterboard and start bending until the bend point reaches the marked point of the center of the sheet. Then carefully draw the pencils with a pencil. The result is a smooth arc.
  6. You can cut an arc with a paint knife, but it's best to use an electric jigsaw with a fine saw blade. Cut the sheet along the drawn line. The cut off part( semicircle) is applied to another piece and we draw a pencil. Cut out the second part.
  7. Now fasten two blanks to the metal structure. We do this with a screwdriver and self-tapping screws on gypsum boards. In order to keep the structure better, the fastener step should be minimal. When carrying out this operation, gypsum boards should be gently squeezed to the profile to avoid cutting.
  8. When the base of the arch is ready, it is necessary to seal its end part. To do this, we take a piece of the profile, long equal to the dimensions of the arc, and along the entire perimeter in steps of 20-30 mm we make cuts of the side walls so that it can be bent in the arc arch shape.
  9. Bend the profile and attach it to the side walls inwards to the metal structure and plasterboard. Next, cut out a strip of plasterboard long equal to the length of the arc arch and a width equal to the width of the archway. The strip should lie in between the walls of the arch.
  10. Bend the strip. Drywall is a fairly fragile material, so work with it must be done carefully. In order for it to be bent in the shape of an arc, it must be soaked. To do this, lavishly moisten the strip with water and without extra effort roll it with a needle roller.
  11. Then put the profile between the two stools and leave for a while. Soon you will notice that the band began to sag. Then we take it and put it in the butt of the arch, fixing it with screws.
  12. Next step on the corners of the arch we lay the painting flexible corner and attach it with an industrial stapler.
  13. We proceed to priming the arches of plasterboard in the kitchen. To do this, we use a liquid mixture of deep penetration. Places of joints of the arch with the wall are covered with a paint net. After the primer has dried, proceed to the putty.

Arch between the kitchen made of wood

Most wooden arches are made in specialized wooden workshops with special equipment. The fact is that the tree is not too flexible material, and in order to make an arc at the top of the arch, special knowledge and skills are required. As an option - the arch of the arch with their own hands is made of specially cut out sticks, glued together. However, this method is rather long and requires good attention and almost masterly possession of the joiner's tool.

Without much effort, you can make a trapezoidal arch or a so-called portal. The latter is nothing more than a modified door frame.

Especially worth noting is that the wooden door-arch to the kitchen requires special attention and care. It must be regularly opened with varnish, make sure that pests do not spoil it. Also, such arches are very afraid of excess moisture, so try not to allow the flooding of the premises.

Arch to the brick kitchen

Brick arches are created at the initial stage of repair of housing. To build such a structure correctly, you need to have the technology of laying a brick in the form of an arch vault. This is not very simple, so it is better to entrust this matter to a professional who, in addition, will be able to assess the possibility of building such a structure. The fact is that brick arches have a rather large weight, respectively, can not be installed in apartment buildings with wooden floors between floors. In addition, a set of bricks, laid not by a professional handler over the passage to the kitchen, can cause problems.

Variants of application of various arches in kitchen design

Kitchen in the style of "lock".In the decor of this room, a stone predominates. And for the finishing of walls with the same success both natural and artificial stone is used. In order to more accurately convey the atmosphere of the medieval castle, the stone is better to use more dark shades of gray. Arch in those years was one of the most common architectural forms, so this element, trimmed with stone, in such a kitchen will look very organic.

Design in the style of "loft" can be decorated with a brick arch. To create a sense of underground, you can use different colors of bricks. An interesting option will be to lay out the brick arch in the window openings. Then the windows will blend in with the entrance to the room.

Wooden arches perfectly combined with classic repairs. It is especially interesting to see such an arch, if its color and texture coincide with the kitchen furniture. Beautiful pilasters, decorated with wood carvings, will emphasize the individuality and style of your kitchen.

Arches in the Art Nouveau style or minimalism are usually made of plasterboard. Thanks to the use of this material, it is possible to make not only classical types of arches, but also combined structures that can bring to life the wildest imaginations of designers.
