The simplest way is to assemble the LED spotlight from the Chinese halogen model. This is due to the fact that it will not be necessary to invent a body and a reflector. Having spent 200 rubles for the purchase of a poor quality street lamp, you will need to replace the lamp with an LED lamp. This will allow you to enjoy the bright glow of an economical and durable searchlight.
By the way, you can search the case separately in a specialized store. Perhaps the cost of the product will be even lower than that of a halogen lamp.
If you decide to make a powerful LED spotlight yourself, which will also be very hot, we recommend that you take extra care to remove heat. For this, you can either find an aluminum radiator and fix it, or make a completely aluminum box, as in the photo below.
Step 2 - Select the lamp
As for the lamp for a home-made LED spotlight, it's the easiest to buy it. The power for street lighting should be at least 30 watts. However, a separate acquisition of the case and the LED light bulb may not come out very cheaply. That's why we recommend making a lamp with your own hands. The advantage is that you can assemble a light bulb with a power supply of 220 or 12 volts. In the first case it will allow to connect the luminaire directly to the network. If desired, you can also make a light bulb from the old energy saving, from individual LEDs or even from a single-color LED ribbon, as in the photo below.

If you still decided to make the projector with your own hands from halogen, you will have to find the base of the LED light bulb.
Step 3 - Assemble the luminaire
After all the elements are assembled, you can easily assemble the self-made work without much effort. All you need to cook is a sealant. For a better understanding of the information we provide for your attention the step-by-step assembly instructions:
- Remove the ceramic cartridge from the old case.
- We mount the cartridge for the LED lamp in place of the previous one. To do this, we use a sealant. You can make a more rigid fixing yourself, but as experience shows, the sealant fastens the LED bulb in the case well enough. In addition, it is possible to adjust the direction of the glow of the homemade searchlight, while the sealant is not frozen.
- Display wires in a special junction box, as shown in the photo below.
- Install the protective glass.
- If the device is not to be used outdoors, additionally seal the contours of the protective glass, as well as all joints on the housing from moisture ingress. In addition, we recommend to equip a protective cap that will extend the life of your LED home-made product.
- Make a connection to the network to test the luminaire's functionality.
That's how you can make a searchlight with your own hands at home. We recommend to additionally equip the self-made motion sensor and a photo-relay, which will save energy even more and make the lighting automatic.
