Thanks to the tireless work of interior designers, you can now witness a stunning variety of bathroom design options. It contributes to this, and the fact that the approach to the use of finishing materials changes radically. A clear example of this is the use of glass - if before it made only shelves and decorative elements, then today a glass-sealed tub becomes commonplace. Practical and stylish innovation was to the liking of many, so today's article we will devote to creating a glass partition in the bathroom with their own hands.

Purpose of a glass partition

In the interior of a modern bathroom you can often find elements that were previously considered inadmissible in such a room. In such a specific room, it has always been customary to give preference to strong and functional materials - tile, porcelain, stainless steel. But the glass is also not afraid of moisture or wear, and with proper manufacturing technology it becomes durable as a stone.

The glass partition in the bathroom is an original and stylish solution that will not only transform the interior visually, but also take on a number of functional loads. Why put a partition of glass, can only tell the customer himself, but we'll consider what role this detail can play in the interior of the bathroom.

Purpose of the glass partition in the bathroom:

  1. Decorative function - by itself, the glass as a separating element looks unusual and beautiful, especially if it has a pattern, stained glass, or the surface has a relief. If you decide to equip an apartment, say, in an oriental style, then in the room you will put a bamboo partition. In a permanently wet bathroom, this barrier will not last for a long time, therefore, as an alternative, you can install a light glass partition with stylistic painting - hieroglyphs, cranes, sun or the same bamboo.
  2. Separation into functional zones - a glass partition, unlike a brick or plasterboard, does not overload the space, leaving it light and airy. At the same time, it is a real obstacle separating the zones, for example, a shower room from the restroom, if it is a neighboring bathroom. If the bathroom has a washing machine, drying and ironing board, this "linen" zone can be delicately fenced off from the rest of the room, rationally using space.

  3. Masking function - the partitions for the bathroom of glass will serve as an effective camouflage if, for example, the pipes of the riser are unsightly from the wall and can not be hidden. Then on the partition you can hang a beautiful lamp or attach a few glass shelves to it, turning the usual screen into a functional wall. In a combined bathroom and do not do without such a partition, especially if the apartment lives a few people. In order not to discomfort each other and enhance the aesthetic appearance of the bathroom, put an opaque barrier between the toilet and the shower.

Classification of partitions

The idea of installing glass partitions in the bathroom appeared a long time ago, so designers had plenty of time to come up with different types of designs.

Today there are several types of glass partitions for the bathroom:

  1. Depending on the material used, it would seem that the glass in the bathroom glass, but no. There are thin sheet partitions from monolithic elements and glass-fiber ones - made of thick double-walled glass "bricks".Thin leaves are frameless and frameless. The latter are completely transparent and are not suitable for visual delimitation of space. They are often used as a door for a bathroom or a shower.
  2. Light transmittance - the light transmittance of glass partitions depends on their decor. They are completely transparent, translucent matte and completely opaque. Here it should be noted that for small rooms transparent or semitransparent partitions will fit, since the dark ones will "press" and visually further reduce the space.

  3. Mobility - in terms of mobility, you can identify fixed barriers and partitions-transformers. The latter can be quickly assembled or dismantled to move to another place or completely removed. One of the most common mobile partitions is a glass canvas on rollers, which can be moved like a closet, overlapping the right or left side of the room.
  4. Depending on the method of opening - there are partitions without doors with a fixed opening and, accordingly, with doors( swinging, leaving).Opening partitions are in most cases used in shower cabins and spacious combined bathrooms.
  5. Purpose - zoning room, disguise or arrangement of the shower.
    10

The only, if allowed, lack of such partitions is that it is recommended to use them only in fairly spacious bathrooms, because if you try to install even a light transparent barrier in the toilet of a normal Khrushchev, it will be at least uncomfortable.

Manufacturing technology

As mentioned above, glass partitions are monolithic made of solid glass and glass "bricks".The thin-leafed septum, despite its seeming fragility, is made of strong, salted glass, which it is necessary to break even further. Glass blocks and at all practically indestructible( in any case, at home, it will not be possible to break such a barrier).

Partition of glass blocks

The glass block is an element made of two glass plates pressed under high pressure, between which a hermetically sealed cavity is left. Thanks to this design, which resembles a thermos, glass blocks are one of the most effective energy-saving materials in the world. In the Soviet Union in the entrances of apartment houses often made windows from glass blocks, so inside it was always warm even in the coldest winters and coolly in the summer. Today from the glass blocks make the walls, original floor coverings, countertops, bar counters, etc. We'll tell you how to make a bathroom partition by yourself.

Before you start work and go to the building store, make a drawing of the future partition, estimate how many glass blocks you need, select the color( or several colors).

Tools and materials required for work:

  • glass blocks;
  • adhesive;
  • grout for seams( to choose in a tone to glass blocks);
  • reinforcing tape( wire);
  • PVC tape;
  • spatula in stainless steel;
  • rubber spatula;
  • crosses for glass blocks of the right size( from 1 to 16 cm or more);
  • knife-joint;
  • sponge for washing dishes;
  • dowels;Plummet and construction level.

Correctly installed glass blocks for partitions in the bathroom will last at least 10 years, so follow the instructions exactly.

It is not difficult to make such a wall of "transparent brick":

  1. Draw the markings on the floor and wall, to which the partition will be adjacent. It is not necessary that it reaches the ceiling. You can make it a height of 1.5 m, and upstairs put pots with flowing curly flowers. Or make a little lower and grow on a septum of orchids( if the bathroom has a large window and enough natural light) - they just love the constant humidity and heat. Marking should consist of 2 parallel lines, the distance between which is equal to the width of the glass block.
  2. Check the flatness of the horizontal lines on the floor using the building level, on the wall - using a plumb line. If the devices showed that the wall or floor is uneven, they will have to be leveled, otherwise the glass blocks will be crooked, and the partition will not last long.
  3. Any house eventually shrinks, and that your partition is not damaged( in fact it has to stand for at least 10 years), it is necessary to provide protection. For this, glue the PVC tape between the marking lines, freeing it from the protective layer and leveling it over the surface.
  4. You need to stack the glass blocks from the corner where the floor joins the wall. Apply the adhesive on the wall and the bottom of the block with a layer of 2.5-3 cm and lightly press down the "brick".Adjust the position relative to the marking by tapping it with a spatula handle. Do not remove the protective film from the glass blocks until the end of the installation!
  5. After installing each unit, check that it is level with the level.
  6. Lay the entire bottom row in this way, blurring the bottom and side of each block and remembering to install spacers between them, so that smooth and beautiful stitches are then obtained.
  7. Through each two segments( vertical and horizontal), "weave" reinforcing wire or tape.
    4
  8. After laying 3-4 rows, interrupt for a day, so that the solution should be properly seized. Take into account that the glass blocks weigh a lot, so the solution in the lower rows can "move out" if there is too much mass on top.
  9. When part of the wall is ready, remove the excess solution between blocks using a knife-jamb or a spatula corner. Do this immediately, until the solution is frozen. Simultaneously with cleaning, pick out the crosses, slightly pushing them with a knife.
  10. After a day, you can start laying the next segment of the wall, and so on until the very end.
  11. When the wall is ready, you can start grouting the seams. If you are afraid to make a mistake with the color, choose a white grout - it always gives an effective contrast. Dilute the trowel to the consistency of thick sour cream and apply it to the voids between the glass blocks with slight pressing movements. For this job you will need a rubber spatula.
    5
  12. With unaccustomed you are unlikely to get perfectly smooth stitches, but it's intrepid. After drying, the lubricated areas can be easily "unrolled" with sandpaper No. 2 or No. 1.
  13. Remove excess paste with a damp sponge for washing dishes.
  14. Only now you can remove the protective film from the glass blocks and enjoy the work done.

Partition of sheet glass

With the laying of "bricks" is it ever less clear, but how to make a glass partition from a solid sheet? This process is somewhat more complicated, but the effect is created quite different. To independently fabricate such a screen, you need to make a lot of calculations - the weight of the glass, marking, profiles, fasteners, etc. As a rule, a novice who does not know well in engineering works, this task seems impossible, that is why many prefer to buy ready systems. In fact, this greatly facilitates the work, and you save on installation - anybody can cope with the finished system.

How to make a glass partition in a solid sheet bathroom:

  1. Make markings on walls, ceiling and floor. In this case, the partition will reach the ceiling.
  2. Check the leveling of the markings with a plumb line so that the lines on the ceiling and on the floor are in the same plane, otherwise the partition will simply not get into the fasteners.
  3. Install the profile by screwing the tires along the marking lines with dowels.
  4. Place rubber gaskets under the tires to reduce pressure on the surface, create a noise barrier and prevent the destruction of the partition from shrinking the house.
    7th
  5. With dowels, fix the squares on the tires, setting 2 pcs.through every meter. This is necessary in order for the partition to be as stable as possible and not to collapse.
  6. Screw clamps to the clamps, not twisting to the end.
    8
  7. Fasten the glass in the connectors with a hexagonal wrench. First, place the blade in the lower connectors, then - in the upper and, in the last turn - in the side connectors. This work is better done together, or even better - three( two keep the glass on each side, and the third directs).
  8. Adjust the height of the bulkhead with adjustable supports or pads and tighten the clamps to the end.
  9. For partitions from several sections of glass should be installed in 1-3 cm from each other, then fill the slots with a sealant.
  10. Install the decorative pads by snapping on one side of the squares, on the other - on the clamps. If necessary, fit the end cap to the profile.
