Thinness of laying linoleum own hands

Thinness of laying linoleum own hands

Linoleum is laid on a pre-leveled base.

To give an ideal evenness to the base floor it is possible with the help of cement screed and special substrates.

To find out how this is done, we recommend viewing the thematic video material.

Today the market offers the consumer a significant and varied amount of finishing decks. Linoleum - one of those that is more often given preference in choosing.

Products are purchased to ennoble the floors in the apartment and different rooms of the apartment house, in the bedroom, bathroom or in the kitchen. With its use, the floor is covered in public civil and administrative buildings.

In this case, for each specific case, you choose your own version of the product.

Before you read the further instructions on how to lay linoleum, you need to learn how to choose the right floor products for your home, office or apartment.

At the moment there is a household, semi-commercial and commercial linoleum. Each of these categories has its own technical characteristics and special application.

Household linoleum

Household linoleum is easy to recognize by marking, since the product has the smallest index of wear resistance - 21-23 units.

This type of linoleum should only be installed in rooms where strong mechanical stress is not expected on the floor.

Household linoleum

Knowing how to lay linoleum for household use, it can be laid with your hands in the living room, bathroom, bedroom or children's room of a house or apartment.

It can be thin-layered and thick-layered, the thickness of the first type of product is from 1 to 1.5 mm, the second - up to 4 mm.

When installing this category of materials, dispersive glue or glueless liner technology can be used.

You can learn more about the installation of household linoleum from the offered video material.

Correctly laid laying linoleum with their own hands will allow for floor finishing for more than a decade.

In order to maximize its service life, it is not recommended to move the furniture over the cover and, if possible, it is necessary to exclude pinpoint impacts that the product can not withstand.

Commercial linoleum

Commercial type of products has a high degree of wear resistance, the life of this coating is more than 25 years.

At the moment, there are two types of commercial linoleum: heterogeneous and homogeneous. Products differ between each other by manufacturing technology and designation for use.

Heterogeneous web has a multilayer structure made on the basis of reinforcing glass fiber melt fused with layers of PVC( from 1 to 6), despite this, it is easy to cut for later laying.

Commercial linoleum

The surface of the heterogeneous product is coated with polyurethane spraying.

This type of commercial linoleum has four modifications:

  • antistatic - resists the emergence of static charges. The installation of antistatic linoleum is in demand in premises equipped with high-precision instruments;
  • acoustic - has the property of absorbing noise and sounds when walking;
  • current-dissipating - resists accumulation of electrical charges. Mounting of the current-dispersing material, as well as the laying of antistatic linoleum, is carried out in rooms equipped with electronic equipment, for example, in laboratories and operating rooms;
  • anti-slip - this kind of coating has a rough surface. Its use makes it possible to equip the floor in places with a high probability of falling, for example in gyms, swimming pools, water parks and on sloping surfaces.

Contrary to the opinion that it is impossible to decorate the floors of residential premises with commercial linoleum, I must say that all this is just speculation. Laying a commercial linoleum is also possible in an apartment or house.

Of course, it is better for this purpose to choose a material on a natural basis with a decorative surface.

But since the cost of commercial coating is too high, it is possible to make the floor more durable than the household type of product can offer, using a semi-commercial type of linoleum.

How to lay linoleum of commercial purpose on glue, in detail will tell the following video plot.

Semi-commercial linoleum

Semi-commercial linoleum - the middle between household and commercial coating.

Semi-commercial linoleum can be considered a universal material, as its multi-layer structure allows you to equip the floors of residential and public spaces with an average index of mechanical impact.

Linoleum flooring of semi-commercial type allows you to solve the problem of floors in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in the hallway or living room of the house.

But not in the children's room or in the bedroom where the floor is better equipped with natural products that are made on the basis of linseed oil, crushed limestone, wood powder, coniferous resin and natural dyes.

Products on a natural basis are also recommended to be placed in the bedroom and other premises where people living with respiratory illness and with a tendency to allergies live.

For fixing the material, a dispersion adhesive is used, which is produced on a water basis. Such glue belongs to the category of environmentally friendly building compounds.

Laying technology of semi-commercial linoleum

Linoleum installation of semi-commercial type is carried out according to the standard scheme, which consists of several working stages and can be used for installing flooring in any room in the house( bedroom, living room or bathroom).

The procedure includes, first of all, the preparation of the substrate, and then proceed to the adjustment of the material to the required dimensions. Then trim and lay the flooring with subsequent sealing of the seams.

Let's consider each stage of the work in more detail.

Base preparation

Prepare the base floor for laying any type of flooring - it means making its surface dry, smooth and even.

If you want to lay the semi-commercial type of flooring on the old linoleum, you need to make sure that its laying passes along a perfectly flat, non-swollen surface.

If the old coating has waves and defects, then it is recommended to completely remove it.

Semi-commercial linoleum is usually laid on the glue over a concrete screed, but it is possible on a wooden surface, provided that the floor is equipped with a plywood backing.

Surface preparation

Measuring rules

Before cutting linoleum into certain segments, the roll product is unfolded on the floor for alignment purposes.

In this position, leave for 2-3 days. During this time the flooring will be smoothed out, and from its surface fissures and creases will disappear.

The floor area is then measured, its length and width are determined taking into account niches, ledges and openings.
If the room has curved walls, then add 50 mm to each calculated value.

Then, if there is a joint, it will be possible to complete the allowance to form a pattern.

Fit the material

The canvas is laid with a pattern upwards and adjusted to the floor area of the room. Cut the measured pieces better using a wooden measuring rod, moving along the walls along the perimeter of the room.

In a room with even walls, the product must lie close to them. If the walls are curved, then linoleum is laid with a twist on the walls, with an overlap of 5 cm. To cut linoleum you need a well sharpened knife.

In addition, to cut the canvas will get smoother and more accurate if you glue it with a double-sided tape to exclude displacements.

Linoleum fitting

Jointing and Sealing of Joints

In order to obtain a smooth and high-quality joint, it is necessary to join the seams of a flooring product with such overlap that will completely match the pattern.

Then, using a wooden ruler and a sharp knife, begin to cut the double web exactly, resulting in an ideal seam.

Make seams invisible to the eye allowing their processing by cold welding, for this procedure use a special glue in a package with a sharp tip.

If the floor has a large area of more than 20 square meters, or in the room it is planned to place heavy furniture, then glue is used - semi-commercial linoleum is glued completely to the base.

For this, one edge of the linen laid on the floor is bent and one of its underside is treated with glue, then, in the same way, the second part.

In another case, the edges of the canvas are simply fixed along the walls by a plinth, after which furniture is installed.

What linoleum to choose for a bathroom?

Linoleum water permeability is provided only from the outside of it, as a rule, the back part of the linen is spongy or fleecy.

For the bathroom, this material is not suitable, except for a homogeneous coating. In this case, the most suitable for laying in the bathroom are not roll products, but released in the form of panels.

Their application allows you to reduce the consumption of material, and quickly organize a quality floor covering.

For the installation of panels in the bathroom is not recommended to use glue on a water basis, since its effect will be minimal.

Water-soluble adhesives have the property of setting only after evaporation of moisture from them. But since the bath is constantly wet, the glue will not dry out completely.

As a fixing compound for floor covering in this situation it is better to use contact adhesive, made on chloroprene basis.

But to work with such a substance, you need to have some knowledge.

The technology of contact adhesive application differs from the process of using dispersion composition in that it needs to be applied to both surfaces simultaneously.

After that the applied adhesive is slightly dried, then both surfaces are joined and compacted. This technique resembles gluing wallpaper on the wall.

When laying a roll material, its edges should lie down with a curl on the walls, on top of which later skirting will be mounted.

Butt joints of linoleum are connected by cold welding, joints along the walls are treated with a waterproof sealing compound.
