Interior arches are quite popular elements of the interior of modern housing. They give it an unusual and attractive look. Most often, these elements are used to decorate doorways. Arches interior with their own hands - quite feasible task. This requires only a little zeal. Below we will consider several types of similar constructions, their advantages. In addition, let's talk about the features of mounting various arches.

Types of interior arches
The arches differ in shape, from the design features of the partition or the opening itself. In addition, the shape of arch arches depends on the preferences of the host.
- The most popular today is the view of the arch, which is called "Classics".For such constructions, the arc is executed in the form of a semicircle. This form is optimal for any interior, which has not too wide aperture.
- Another type of arch is "Modern".It represents the shape of a shallow arc. Such arches visually extend the interior space and give the interior decoration of the room a more refined appearance.
- For the wide openings the best solution is considered to be "Romance".The shape of such an arch is a rectangle with upper corners of round shape. Of the advantages of this design, it should be noted that rounding captures quite a bit of free space.
- "Trapezium".Such designs of arches have a broken form of arch. They are able to highlight the design of the room. Such arched ceilings can be installed in openings of almost any size.
The above types are far from all existing today. For example, there are half-arcs and constructions with an arc-ellipse. The configuration of arched openings depends on the size of the room and, of course, on the fantasy of the owner.
Choosing the type of arch is preferably the one that most suits the design of the rest of the room. It is always taken into account how much the shape of the arch on which your choice fell will be combined with the style in which the adjacent corridor is trimmed. In addition, one can not ignore the height of the doorway. So, if its height is 2.1 m or less, then the arch structure can take up a lot of free space. In this case, it is recommended that you do not install it. It will be enough to round the corners in the interior room. Arch constructions are best seen when the distance from the floor to the horizontal jumper is at least 2.7 m.
How to choose the material
For the construction of interior arches made of wood, wood species such as pine, oak, beech and expensive mahogany are often used. Moreover, pine wood, as a rule, is used as the main material for such a structure. The fact is that this breed has a core of a pinkish hue, which gradually turns dark red. As for the advantages of pine, among them one can note elasticity, good density, plasticity and good resistance to decay. Pine is considered one of the cheapest finishing materials.
In favor of beech or oak, a choice is usually made if the apartment already has a similar interior finish. These materials are quite durable, and at the same time they have a special texture and color. The most expensive wood is mahogany, but it looks very respectable.
Advantages of gypsum plasterboard apertures
Gypsum plasterboard sheet is environmentally safe, and at the same time a relatively inexpensive material that is able to keep any form desired. As for the interior arches of plasterboard, they have several significant advantages:
- First of all, this is the simplicity of the design, due to which it is quite strong and reliable.
- In addition, the merits of the arches of plasterboard can be attributed relatively low cost of materials.
- In addition, they are easily mounted. Indeed, such arches can make even a person who is a little familiar with the construction business.
- When installing the structure, it is not necessary to carry out large-scale dusty and noisy work.
Preparation for installation
First of all, it is necessary to make measurements of the opening where you intend to install the structure. The width and height from the floor must be known. The width of the arch should be the same as the distance between the opposite sides of the opening. After measuring this parameter, the resulting value must be divided in half. The result of division will be needed for the correct manufacture of an even semicircle.
Before you make an arch, you should determine its shape. During the preparatory work, it is necessary to pay attention to the verticality of the wall. If it is not strictly vertical, then the arch structure will eventually look bad. In this case, the surface of the opening must be leveled. This is done with putty work. When making interroom arches, you should take into account that the construction will make the height of the opening smaller. To what extent, the overall interior of the room depends on the type of interior arch. The photos below show a few examples. If the height of the opening was initially less than 2 meters, then, perhaps, it is better to not make an arch in such an opening at all. Instead, it is possible to frame the opening with decorative foam.
In addition to the above, it is necessary to prepare the opening itself for arch mounting. In particular, you should remove from the walls all that can interfere with the installation of the structure. It can be old wallpaper, panel or paint. Be sure to level and clean the wall. In some rooms the shape of the wooden arch does not match the dimensions of the opening. In this case, it will have to be altered "under the arch", i.e.give it an oval shape. For this purpose, the use of a stone, an additional brick or the construction of a gypsum board frame is allowed. It all depends on your preferences. The main thing that you need to achieve is that the size of the resulting opening is the same as the parameters by which the interior arch itself is executed.
Materials for the
arch In order to produce a gypsum board arch, the following materials are required:
- Guide and rack-mount profile.
- Plasterboard sheets.
- Two types of screws( for fastening plasterboard and with a press washer).
- Arched corner with necessary holes.
- Needle roller. Needed for bending sheet drywall.
- Latex putty.
If the main material of the wall is wood, then installation of the profile can be done on wood screws. If the wall is brick or made of plaster or concrete, then to attach the profile frame will need a suitable size dowel with a screw.
How to make an interior arch
One of the most important and important operations is the manufacture of the front part of the future arch. Here the main difficulty is that it is necessary to make two parts, which must be absolutely identical. This is equally true for both arches from plywood and plasterboard. Whatever material for the design is chosen, the principle of markup will be the same. An even semicircle can be made in two ways, which will be described below.
Method 1:
- For example, you can take a tight rope, which should not lengthen with tension and a simple pencil. The latter is attached to the rope. It will be something like a primitive compass. Then the middle of the circle is marked. The middle is the value that was obtained by dividing the width of the opening in half.
- For example, take a 1 m wide opening. If we divide this value in half, we get that the arch radius will be 50 cm. The distance from the top of the opening to the top point of the interior arch is about 10 cm. This value is added to the value of the arch radius. In our case, we get 60 cm. So much to measure from the edge of the drywall sheet and draw a line. Next, the drywall must be cut so that its width is the same as the width of the doorway. In our case this is 1 m.
- Now the middle line is marked on the line. As a result, we get a point, which we take as the center for the inscription of the semicircle. Now you need to take a previously prepared pencil with a rope, measure on a rope 50 cm( or another radius you got of the future arch structure) and outline the semicircle. If everything was done correctly, the result would be an even semi-circle.
- Then we take the usual clerical knife, with which we cut a semicircle according to the markings made by us. You can also cut with a jigsaw. The instrument does not play a big role here. The result is a rectangle 100x 60 cm with a cut in the shape of a semicircle. And from the point of the semicircle, which is closest to the opposite side, remains 10 cm to the edge.
Method 2:
- As for the second method, for it you first need to find something flexible. In this case, the device must be sufficiently long. For example, you can take a PVC panel or a soft plinth. With such a device, you can quickly draw on the gypsum board the necessary semicircle for the arch. But first you need to cut the workpiece, or rather the rectangle.
- For the opening in 1 m width, the dimensions of the arches of the interroom will be the same as in the previous method, i.e.the length of the rectangle will be 100, and the width of 60 cm. After that, from each edge should be measured by 50 cm and draw two lines. In the place of convergence of lines it is necessary to put a point.
- Now the prepared auxiliary tool must be carefully bent to the width of the opening in the form of an arc or a semicircle. In this case, the most convex part of it should coincide with the point that was marked on the rectangle. In addition, the edges of the flexible device must converge with the extreme marks of the rectangle.
- Then the resulting arc is drawn so that it is noticeable on the surface, and cut out. If you use the second method, then you will need an assistant. The fact is that it will not be easy for one to make the necessary markings sufficiently accurate.
Drywall should be bent according to the shape of the frame. Therefore, for the shelling of the lower part of the arch, it is desirable to use a building material specially designed for ceiling finishing. It has a much smaller thickness than standard drywall sheets. That's why it's better to bend.
By the way, there are several ways to bend the drywall without destroying it. Consider some of them:
- If the depth of the opening is small and the arch is supposed to be no more than 25 cm wide, then one side of the bend strip should be cut through every 10 mm. After that, the strip gently breaks over the notches because of what it takes the shape of the arc. With further installation of the drywall strip, you need to be the most cautious. The fact is that the gypsum is usually glued to one side of the cardboard. And this part should be located from below the arch structure. In this case, the cuts will be on top.
- A sheet of gypsum board can be bent by puncturing it with a special roller. To do this, the layer is first wetted with water, after which it is rolled with a spiked roller. The punctured sheet of material is then bent according to the template. In this case, the punctures should remain on the underside. After this, the construction is left to dry. Usually it takes 12-14 hours. When the drywall is dry, it will be as hard as it was originally. Then we can assume that it is ready for installation.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated. The most important thing here is the accuracy, accuracy and observance of the recommendations given.
Installation technology for interior arch
Before proceeding with the installation of the interior arch structure, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the doorway. In particular, all visible irregularities on the wall are removed, which can prevent the correct installation of the frame. After that, metal profiles are installed from the sides of the opening. Arched construction should be in the same plane with the surrounding walls. To do this, the above profile should be placed a little deeper into the opening.
Next to the profile, fixed in the opening, a previously curved profile is attached. After that, all the necessary details of the arch structure are fixed on the screws. To prevent the profile from bending against the pressure of the screws, screw them up without excessive force on the screwdriver. If the profile is deformed, then the whole structure will also lose its shape.
Finishing the
After installing the interior arches, you need to finish. If the opening was made of gypsum board, then before installing the structure it is desirable to make a lining( for example, paper over wallpaper).Arches of wood need to be covered with varnish and paint. This will protect the structure from fading and aging, which will help to increase its service life.
At the end of the work, it is necessary to check the arch structure for dents, potholes, chips and irregularities. If they are found, they should be eliminated. This can be done by finishing. If the arch is erected in a city apartment or in a private house, it is worthwhile to know that the wooden interior doors will always look better. After all, wood is an environmentally friendly material. In addition, he is known for such qualities as resistance to wear and durability. This makes it a very good option for interior decoration.
When the installation and finishing of the arch is completed, it is advisable to make a frame from the perforated corners. In addition, the place of joints and seams will need to be sealed with a sickle. Then the arch is covered with starting putty. After the mixture dries, all surfaces should be ground until they are perfectly smooth. Then you can paint the arch or wallpaper it with wallpaper. The choice of finishes depends only on personal preferences.
