Plinth veneered: installation with self-tapping screws and finishing nails

The plinth is veneered, what is its structure?

Plinth wooden veneered - this is a two-layer material, consisting of the base and the front side. The array( or base) is usually made of pine or spruce. On top glued veneer, made from any valuable wood. More than 60 breeds can be used. Due to this variety it is possible to choose the appropriate shade for almost any floor covering( for the color of a parquet, a massive board).

Also, sometimes, the front side is made of metal foil, gold or aluminum. From above all this surface is ground and varnished with the help of a special composition. The cost of veneered plinth is much lower than the price of a solid wooden. This is explained by the fact that inexpensive but at the same time qualitative breeds are used for the basis. Valuable wood, having a higher cost, is applied only to the upper, front part.

The main advantages of this material are the same as for wooden skirting. Namely: durability, aesthetic appeal, ecological compatibility, durability, uncomplicated installation. Its shortcomings: exposure to corrosive substances, moisture. That is why it is additionally covered with a varnish for a parquet or tonirujut by any protective paint.

The main difference between a veneered plinth and a wooden plinth is in the structure.

Installation of veneered skirting on

self-tapping screws The installation of a veneered skirting board is very similar to the installation of a wooden plinth. At the initial stage, you need to measure the amount of material that will be required in the process. To do this, determine the perimeter of the room. Cut a piece equal to the length of one side of the room. The edges are made at an angle of 45 degrees. At the same time use a stool or a hacksaw. Further on the plinth you need to mark the places where the screws will be located. It is desirable to fasten them at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other.

Self-tapping screws must be thin and long( 3x70 or 3x60), then their fastening capacity will be big enough, and the hats are barely noticeable. Then the skirting board with the marking is applied to the wall and marks the places where the screws should be placed on it.

At these points, holes are drilled on the surface and dowels are inserted. Then the plinth is again applied to the wall and is finally fixed. The advantage of this method is that at any time you can do the dismantling of the material.

Install skirting on the finish nails

In fact, finishing nails in the manner of fastening are very similar to self-tapping screws. Instead of plastic dowels, wooden ones are used. In other respects, the principle is the same. On the plinth make a markup every 40-50 cm. Then mark the points on the wall. Well, at the finish stage it is fixed.

Like there are no special differences, and the question may arise - what difference does it make which method to use? The fact is that mounting on the finishing nails has its own small advantages.

First, the place of fasteners is completely invisible. For example, a self-tapping screw, though small, has a hat. In this case, it is not visible. Secondly, the fastening itself is much more reliable. However, there is one nuance. If the installation was carried out on the plinth in a state of tension, then in time the nails can not stand.

It's also worth considering one more fact! With time, when the humidity fluctuates, the parquet can change its geometry and move upwards. Therefore, hammered nails in the plinth will also rise.
