In the process of work, the following tools will be needed:
Tools for the manufacture of wooden platbands
- special tenoning tools( necessary for trimming stitches and lugs);
Tenoning tools
- flat chisel 0,7-2 cm;
Flat chisel
- knife-cutter;
- knife-joint;
Knife-jamb
- round and semicircular chisel 2,5 cm;
- "Caesars"( another type of chisel, 0.5 cm);
- cranberry( chisels at 1.5 cm);
Clinkers
- angled chisels by 1.5 cm( bent at an angle of 70ᵒ).
Step 2. Selection of material
For ordinary platbands, it is better to use pine, while for carvings it is recommended to take soft rocks, for example, linden( the latter, moreover, is much easier to handle by hand).
White linden wood
Pine wood
Important! The only disadvantage of linden - hygroscopicity - is easily eliminated by applying several layers of paintwork.
Solid wood species should be selected in three cases:
- with high humidity of the climate;
- when the air is too dry;
- in the presence of significant temperature fluctuations.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the interesting material on finishing the socle of the house with your own hands.
Detailed technology with a step-by-step description will let you know everything about the finish of the socle.
Birch and oak can be referred to hard rocks. They are difficult to handle with hand tools, so you need a milling machine, but it will serve a tree several times longer than a linden tree.

Stage 3. Important points in the manufacture of
Finished wooden platbands should not prevent the opening of the leaflets at least 90ᵒ.With regard to other parameters, they are selected individually according to the size of the opening. For fastening, you can use spikes or connect elements in the middle.
Original trim
Important! In the future, to apply large images to the surface, the upper part of the clypeus can be enlarged. For fastening, spikes are used, and the decoration itself is called "kokoshnik".
The lower part of the product is made in the same carved manner and must include the bevel required for the drainage. Characteristically, the thickness of the lower part should exceed the thickness of the upper minimum by 1 cm.
How to make the planks
On both sides of the opening small slats are nailed - they hide the differences in the walls( if any).The thickness of the slats should coincide with the width of the gap, at least approximately. The final fastening is carried out only after a thorough fit of the joints.
Important! If the doors open on the street, then the platbands need to be set 3 cm above the window itself.
Step 4. Selection of the pattern

Since ancient times, the platbands were decorated with the most bizarre patterns, which were believed to protect the house from evil spirits and evil eye. Today, the manufacture of carved casings is mainly done by skilled craftsmen.
Important! To make trim on windows with your own hands , you first need to pick a good stencil, which will create a pattern of any complexity, even without special skills of woodcarving.
Quite often professionals use stencils, without them only one-time individual orders are performed.
Stencils are now freely sold in a fairly wide range. They consist of such components:
- lower bar;
- upper strap;
- vertical slats.
In addition, there may be additional decorative details - hangers, vazonchiki and so on.

Stage 5. Frame manufacturing
First, a frame is formed from pre-cut elements. Mounting is carried out with the help of spikes, which are fixed in the hole by nails. To create thorns, a jigsaw is usually used, although an ordinary hacksaw with fine teeth will do. A small knife is used to remove the sawdust.
The width of the finished frame, as well as the platbands described above, should not interfere with the free opening of the doors by 90 °.The frame itself should be at least 2 cm longer than the window.
Step 6. Making the platbands
The template for the platbands is made of cardboard, the full-size
. Step 1. First, the pattern from the stencil is transferred to the tree by means of a carbon paper.
The resulting template is placed on a board and the contour is contoured with pencil
. Step 2. Next, a jigsaw with a thin canvas is cut and small figured elements are cut out.
Step 3. From the outside, the contours of the pattern are cut out so that the blade runs along the edge of the workpiece.

Step 4. In any case, in the workpiece you have to turn the saw. To do this is simple enough, you only need to use one of two existing methods:
- , after reaching the rotation, several parallel cuts are made( the saw should be able to rotate to any angle inside the hole);
- you can go another way - to make a small loop, which will go on the reverse side.
Important! Modern jigsaws allow you to cut at an angle of 45-90ᵒ, so you can not only make the smallest sections, but also give the decorative element a more saturated and voluminous shape.
Step 5. If a closed figure is to be cut in the center of the product, a hole is drilled in the middle of the part being removed. After that, the jig saw blade will be easier to move in one direction or the other.
If the workpiece is thin enough, then it can be done without an electric drill. For this, the electric jigsaw is taken and rests against the workpiece at a right angle. Then the tool is turned on and the hole is scratched as the canvas is deepened into the tree.
Manufacture of casings
These are all the key aspects of making window frames. Actually, the whole procedure is reduced to a multiple repetition of the actions described above, but their specific combination depends only on the skills and complexity of the pattern.

It should be noted that there are other manufacturing methods that differ from those described above. For clarity, we advise you to watch a thematic video.

Basic rules. What you can not do
Below is a list of rules that can help you avoid the most common problems.
- As a starting material, it is recommended to use a board 3-4 cm thick.
- Do not immediately grasp the complex patterns. At first it is better to practice on usual round details, which are easy to do with a drill.
- The width of the workpiece must be such that it is enough to cover the ends of the walls and protect it from moisture.
- Carved elements should be placed along the fibers of the tree - this will prevent cracking.
- When choosing a stencil, it is better to pay attention to patterns with large elements, because small ones will look crumpled, so that the finish will not have the desired decorative effect.
Important! Before you start, you should calculate the future costs of time and money, as well as the feasibility of the idea itself. In the absence of high skills in working with wood and interest in the process itself, it's easier to buy ready-made platbands.
Moreover, it is desirable first to see the photos of different products. So you can find a suitable option, or draw inspiration for your own making something.
Platbands
Step 7. Installing the product on the
window Now it only remains to install the finished carved platbands on the windows, for which special glue is used. It is important that it is not organic, otherwise because of exposure to biological influences, it will harm the products themselves.
Installing the product on the
window You can use the plumbing glue - there should not be any problems with it.
Important! If the fastening is to be carried out with the help of nails, the spikes and joints should be smeared with glue beforehand.
Another option, which can further simplify the installation procedure, is the use of self-tapping screws instead of nails. It will be easier at least because of the lack of risk to damage the clypeus or surrounding surfaces with a hammer.
Casing for windows
Important! Hat self-tapping screws is very easy to disguise. It is necessary to mix wood sawdust with glue and the resulting mixture to smear the hats. It is advisable to do this even before painting the windows, so that the hidden fasteners also acquire the required color.
The final coloring procedure is also quite simple. Over the finish, some protective material is applied( not only paint, but also, for example, varnish, impregnation).It is advisable to do this in any case, since such a coating significantly extends the operational life of the products.
Diagram of the casing
Paint, as you know, is peeling, so instead it is desirable to take a special impregnation. It is much easier to periodically renew the impregnation than to remove the cracked paint. And the latter, as is known, must crack.
As a conclusion
Clysters on windows
It is commendable that people tend to follow the traditions of their ancestors, because this is especially true in the current conditions of active urbanization. For self-manufacturing window frames it will take a little time and the corresponding equipment. The procedure is complicated, but the result will more than pay off all the costs. Moreover, so you can save a considerable amount of money, as the production of clysters for one window to order will cost an average of 2.5-15 thousand rubles.
