The term "gas column" is commonly referred to as a flow-through gas water heater, which is installed to heat water in houses not connected to central heating. This method of heating has many advantages, not least of which is independence from communal services and preventive works, which makes it possible to always have warm and hot water in the house.
However, the problems of the residents of houses connected to the gas pipeline are many. One of the most common troubles is the failure of gas equipment, which can lead to very serious, and even life-threatening consequences. For what to do, if you find a leak in a gas column, read in our today's article.
Why leaks?
We have compiled a list of the most common reasons why a gas water heater starts to leak.
So, if you suspected leakage, then, probably, the cause will be one of the following:- The connecting elements of the water flow were worn out. That is, in other words, the rubber gaskets located between the hose and the pipe need to be replaced.
- The heat exchanger broke, that is a kind of "tank" in which water is heated. The pipes connected to it are constantly subject to temperature changes, so they can deform and corrode.
- No regular preventive maintenance was performed. A gas column is equipment that needs periodic inspection and maintenance to prevent breakage. If you neglect these duties, the leak may appear unexpectedly.
How to eliminate leakage?
Finding the cause of the leak, you can proceed to eliminate it. Our further actions will depend on which part of the gas column is the source of the leak.
Leakage in the radiator
The fact that there is a crack or hole in the radiator signals the presence of green spots on this part. The procedure for eliminating leakage in the radiator is as follows:
- We overlap the water pipes so that no water enters the column. Disconnect the water supply hoses from the column. We drain the water from the radiator. To remove the liquid from the coil, use a vacuum cleaner or pump.
- Armed with nazhdachkoy, we clean the damaged areas. Then we treat these places with a degreasing solution and wipe it dry.
- We take a soldering iron with solder, which can be used at temperatures above 180 degrees( the power of the soldering iron should be not less than 100 W).Grind a piece of rosin or rub powder into a pill of aspirin. Sprinkle with this composition the working surface.
- Heating the soldering iron to the desired temperature, increase the solder to a height of approximately 0.2 cm.
- Repeat this procedure for each through damage.
Alexander Gerasimov in his video will show and tell you how to properly weld the gas column radiator yourself.
Leakage in threaded connections
Often it is possible to detect leaks in threaded connections between parts of a gas column. Pay attention to the pipe that formed the leak: the left pipe is usually fed with water for heating, and on the right - gas. As a rule, water begins to leak from the pipe if the seal is worn. To change this spare part is very easy.
- The first thing to do is block the water supply.
- Then we disassemble the connection in which the problem is detected( we use an ordinary wrench for this purpose). We take out the worn gasket.
- The connecting elements must be cleaned of debris and degreased.
- If the thread on the American nut is damaged, it must be replaced.
- Then install a new rubber gasket and assemble the connection.
Leakage in tubes
Sometimes leakage is detected not in the connection of the tubes, but directly in them. Experts advise that if cracks and small holes are found in the tubes, use the same method as for removing the leak in the radiator, that is, soldering. However, in the absence of proper care, it is not always possible to detect damage in time. If you are too late, and the tube has managed to be rotted so that it can not be repaired, you will have to replace it.
Those who have encountered such a problem say that it is very difficult to find a suitable tube, even in shops specializing in the sale of gas equipment. As a replacement tube can be used corrugated hose made of stainless steel or flexible water connector.
How to properly weld the tube without spoiling it and extending the life of the gas column, you can see in the video of Vladimir Pekar, which is presented below.
Replacing the seal of the
water hose Another possible leakage point is the gas-water junction. If water starts to drip out of it, most likely, the O-ring of the stem has worn out. This spare part will be quite easy to replace.
The parts of the water hose are fastened with six screws - these fasteners we unscrew in the first place. Then disconnect the two parts of the body of the assembly. From the inside, we remove the membrane, spring and plate with the stem, which is a round disk with a metal pin. If you unscrew this pin, you can find a rubber ring under it - this is the seal. We remove the worn out ring, put a new one in its place, and assemble the assembly in the reverse order.
