How to dilute acrylic paint - the rules of diluting paint for different purposes

When carrying out repair works in the house, it often becomes necessary to dilute too thick paint to create the necessary consistency for application with a brush, roller or spray gun. For each type of paint you need to use your own solvent.

Acrylic paint: characteristic, dilution characteristics

Paints for finishing works are alkyd( enamel and oil) and water-diperse. The latter are today the most popular and are characterized by a special variety of species. Acrylic paint among water-dispersion is the most popular. This is an environmentally friendly material, which includes a binder, pigment and water. After the paint dries, the binder becomes transparent, and the paint layer is very durable. Used acrylic for painting various surfaces inside or outside the room.

Since acrylic is a water-based dispersion, it is diluted, if necessary, most often with water that must be clean, free of impurities. For breeding, you need to pour a part of the paint that you are going to use in a bucket or other convenient container, add a small amount of water and mix with a construction mixer until smooth. If it was not possible to achieve the desired consistency, then add a little more water and stir again. After the required density is obtained, the dye is added to the composition, stirred to obtain a uniform color of the desired tone. After this, you can start painting.

Important! The acrylic paint dries out after the liquid evaporates. After drying, the binder and pigments form a strong film that does not flake, crumble, crack or wash with water. Therefore, the brushes that you want to use again, you need to rinse thoroughly with water until the paint on them has dried up: after drying it will be impossible to do.

Thinner for acrylic paint

Do not think that you can only dilute acrylic paint with water. Manufacturers of paint and varnish materials produce special diluents for acrylic paints that provide a painted surface with a matte or glossy texture, and significantly accelerate the drying process. If you want the surface to shine after gloss, use glossy compounds, if you need a matte surface, use the appropriate diluent.

The solvent for acrylic paint is a clear liquid with a specific odor. It differs by the drying time of the paint layer( rapid drying, medium, slow). This or that option is used depending on the humidity and temperature in the room: in a hot weather, a compound having a low level of evaporation is usually used, and in a cold it is better to use a solvent with a high drying speed. One of such solvents is Relocryl Acryl , used for acrylic paints, primers, varnishes.

By adding more or less of a diluent, you can achieve different effects of the painted surface: from a thin, transparent layer resembling watercolor to a thick, imitating oil;from bright, saturated, intense tones to pale, muted shades.

Keep these formulations in closed form in an upright position in cool, well ventilated, dark areas, observing sanitary and fire safety standards.

Important! After the work is finished, it is necessary to seal the jar tightly with a lid to prevent the paint from drying out. Before this, you need to thoroughly clean the edge of the can from the paint, otherwise the dried paint will make it difficult to open the container next time.
