Wood is the most convenient material for work. Wooden shelves are simple, complex shapes, open and closed, vertical, horizontal and angular. Taking as a basis the base variant, it is possible to assemble a shelf from several modules and give it the most incredible appearance. In order for the product to serve a long time, it is necessary to choose the right wood: the boards should be perfectly even, completely dry, without cracks, voids and mold marks.
During assembly, you will need:
- hacksaw;
- drill;
- building level;
- pencil and ruler;
- board thickness of 16 mm;
- stain;
- varnish for wood;
- grinder;
- screws, brackets, dowels.
As an example, a simple rectangular shelf with a width of 250 mm, a height of 300 mm and a length of 1100 mm is used.
Step 1. Layout
Planks are laid flat on the table and transfer measurements from the drawing. The height of the side walls should be 268 mm, because they will be located between the upper and lower part: wall height + board thickness x 2 = 300 mm.
Step 2. Board saw
If the markings exactly match the pattern, you can start cutting. It is best to use a jigsaw for this, then the cuts are perfectly even and neat. It should be 2 long blanks and 2 short pieces.
Step 3. Processing blanks
Before assembling, each workpiece must be ground, covered with stains and varnish. If you plan to simply paint the shelf, the blanks are treated with antiseptic primer - and the service life rises, and the paint falls evenly.
Step 4. Assembling the product
Place the lower board flat on a flat surface. From the ends of the workpiece retreat by 8 mm and conduct 2 straight lines parallel to the sections. Now, on these lines, you should mark two points at a distance of 5 cm from the edge, and drill holes for the screws there. With the upper workpiece do the same. When all the holes are ready, the side boards are set on the bottom board and the screws are tightened. On top, a second board is applied and also the side walls are fixed with self-tapping screws.
At the ends of the side walls fix the brackets, drill holes in the wall for the dowels, insert the screws and twist them so that they protrude about 5 mm. The dowels must be positioned strictly horizontally, so before drilling, schedule the line with a level. Now it remains only to attach the brackets to the fasteners and hang the shelf. If desired, the back wall of the product can be clogged with a piece of plywood, and in front insert glass.
To make such a simple shelf more original, you can replace one side wall with a stub of a thick branch. To do this, choose an even branch with a diameter of about 7-8 cm with smooth clean bark, saw off a piece of 28 cm long, cut off all the lateral processes. The chock is treated with a primer, dried and varnished. You do not need to take a bark. After the lacquer dries, the billet is inserted between the top and bottom boards and fastened with screws.
. Based on this drawing, you can make different variations of wall shelves. For example, reduce the length to 400 mm and produce 3-4 blocks at once. Then set them on top of each other in staggered order and fasten each other with metal plates. Or simply fix them on the wall individually, by placing them a short distance apart.
Corner wooden shelves
Often to save space, shelves are made angular, and you can mount them both in the inner and outer corners.
The workpieces are made according to the scheme described above, only the upper and lower boards consist of two elements, with angled ends. The manufacturing process of such a shelf is quite simple:
- halves of the top board are smeared on the ends with glue and clamped with clamps;
- repeat the same actions with the bottom board;
- when the glue dries, all blanks are covered with stain or primed;
- on the upper and lower workpiece mark the fastening lines and drill holes;
- insert the side walls and fix them with screws.
Next, fasten the brackets and fix the shelf on adjacent walls.
Wall shelf materials | Advantages and disadvantages |
---|---|
Wood: plywood, chipboard, MDF and other | With this material it is relatively easy to work, it looks beautiful, natural and effective, its service life is long enough, especially if you pre-process |
Plastic | This material is the most versatile, it can simulate both wood and stone, while removing their drawbacks |
Metal | Such wall shelves will be very durable, reliable and durable.ovechnymi, but they are difficult to fit into the classical interior. In addition, corrosion can become a problem, therefore, for metal products, special treatment and conditions will be required. |
Glass | Transparent wall shelves will create an atmosphere of lightness and comfort in the house. Of course, it's difficult to make glass with your own hands, but if you decide to do all the work yourself, then you'll have to work with glass for a long time and work very carefully, especially if different cutouts of the |
are planned in the shelf design. The original shelves for books
Shelvesnon-standard form are in great demand, so if you want, you can try to collect something original. For example, the bookshelf is used as a simplified labyrinth.
For production you will need:
- edged board with a thickness of 20 mm;
- joinery adhesive;
- clamps;
- measuring tape;
- level;
- hacksaw;
- stool;
- grinding machine;
- stain;
- furniture screws, self-tapping screws;
- decorative shelf holders.
If you have everything you need, you can start making shelves.
Step 1. Layout
On the prepared boards with a pencil under the ruler, note the cut lines. Measurements should be carried very carefully, since all horizontal parts have different lengths.
Step 2. Trimming the workpieces
The ends of each workpiece are cut at an angle of 45 or 90 degrees. The diagram shows the first option, so you need a chair for cutting. It is very important to correctly place the chair on the board so that the slices are symmetrical. If the butt-ends are not cut correctly, the shelf can not be folded.
Step 3. Assembling the
structure The ends of the parts are spread with glue, tightly compressed and additionally fixed with furniture screws with a spline. Conventional screws are not suitable here. At least two screws are required for each joint. Both parts of the shelf are applied to the wall, leveled and marked with a pencil of attachment points. After that, drill the holes for the dowels, the brackets are screwed to the shelf with brackets and hang the structure on the wall. Instead of brackets, decorative polkoderzhateli "pelikan" is often used.
Shelf on the belts
If you need a decorative shelf for small items, the following option is perfect - a board suspended from straps.
To make the shelf you will need:
- 2 edging boards 300x750 mm, thickness 30 mm;
- 4 leather belts with a length of 75 cm;
- 4 long screws with plastic dowels;
- 4 short screws;
- building level;
- ruler;
- sharp knife;
- drill.
Step 1. Preparation of the
belts The belt cuts must be perfectly even, so if necessary, cut them with a knife. Fold each belt in half, the ends are pressed to the table, they retreat from the edge of 2 cm and drill a neat through hole through the drill. The same is done with the remaining three.
Step 2. Attaching the straps to the wall
Two points at a distance of 60 cm are determined on the wall using a level. Drill the holes and insert the plastic dowels. Folded in half the strap is applied to one of the holes and fixed with a long screw - you get a big loop on the wall. Next, another such loop is attached.
Step 3. Installing the shelf
In the loops, the polished board is pushed in and leveled horizontally. To the shelf does not move, the parts of the belts adjoining the wall near the board are screwed with short screws. Now one more suspension is suspended under this shelf, exactly repeating the actions described above. The result is an easy and tidy bunk shelf. If you want, you can add 1-2 more tiers.
For the production of the shelves described above, not only wood, but also plywood, as well as sheets of chipboard can be used. The latter option is used most often, since the chipboard is lightweight, highly durable, practical and durable. When assembling shelves from this material, all sections must necessarily be pasted with a melamine edge to the color of the sheet.
Glass shelf manufacturing
Glass shelves harmoniously fit into any interior, and the installation process does not take much time. For work you will need:
- tempered glass;
- hammer;
- electric drill;
- building level;
- aluminum profile;
- dowels;
- adhesive tape;
- ruler;
- pencil.
Not everyone knows how to cut glass correctly, that's why it's better to order cutting of blanks in the workshop. In the same place, grinding and polishing of the edges will be performed, so that when the shelf is installed, do not cut yourself against sharp edges. All the rest can be done independently.
Step 1. Marking for fasteners
The section of the wall where the shelf will be hanging should be as flat as possible. Using a building level, a horizontal line is drawn on the wall using a pencil. On the line mark the location of fasteners, drill holes.
Step 2. Installation of profiles
Apply an aluminum profile to the wall surface and check the conformity of the fixing marks. Then insert into the holes dowels, nail a profile with one screw and level it horizontally. After that, twist the remaining screws.
Step 3. Fastening shelf
The back edge of the glass shelf is closed with adhesive tape. You can use separate gaskets from the tape, placing them where the glass will touch the screws of the screws. The shelf is inserted into the profile, the edges of the profile are covered with protective caps. If two shelves touch each other, their edges are fastened with metal fittings.
Unusual shelves from the materials
If you have free time and the desire to experiment, you can create very unusual shelves on the wall from improvised materials. For example, an angular shelf from plastic pipes looks original. To make it, you will need pieces of sewer pipes and corner strips. The shelf is fastened to the wall by screws with dowels.
Old suitcases and diplomats can also become excellent wall-mounted shelves. To do this, they are cut to a height of half, cover the back of the plywood and fixed to the wall with screws or brackets.
Drawers from unnecessary bedside tables are quite suitable for the manufacture of shelves. To give them an elegant look, the boxes should be carefully sanded, primed and painted in bright colors. Then they are leaned against the surface by the back wall, marking the fixing points and drilling holes for them. Even one such regiment looks very original, and the composition of 2-3 boxes will be a real decoration.
