Very often modern architecture, growing in the historical parts of the city, simply crosses out the charm of cozy streets and the comfort of low-rise blocks. But only not in those countries where traditions are revered and reverent to their history. And if the new building still has non-standard forms, an unusual architecture, then it is just doomed to be an object of admiring the townspeople and an obligatory point of visiting tourists. Such a landmark is the curve house in Poland, which in less than a decade has become one of the country's most outstanding treasures.
Crooked house in Sopot - what is it?
A unique house without straight corners was built in 2004 in the city of Sopot under the project of architects Shotinsky and Zalewski. Having received the task of accurately writing a new shopping and entertainment complex into the historic part of the city, while attracting as many visitors and buyers as possible to shops, restaurants and bars, the architects did not lose their heads and, inspired by the drawings of Jan Martsin Shantser and Per Oscar Dahlberg,, created a real masterpiece.
On the one hand the building looks like a toy house, and it seems that it is made of something plastic - plasticine or jelly. But, despite all its absurdity, the curve house in Sopot is firmly "on its feet" and is not going to fall apart at all. Outside, it really does not have a single right angle, but everything inside is functional enough. On the ground floor there is a cozy restaurant and shops, and the second floor is occupied by radio studio.
If we talk about the size of this building, then its area does not exceed 4 thousand square meters.this is a very small house. After entering the building that is unique in its essence, a wide staircase invites us to go up to the second floor, unless, of course, we want to drink a cup of coffee in a cafe or make purchases in stores. But if we go straight through the staircase and left the cafe on the right, we will see the famous Wall of Glory, where famous and public people leave their autographs. And the fact that this house is visited by sharks of show business, says the fact that there are two radio stations on the second floor of the building.
Curve House in Poland: The Flow of Life
Life around the crooked house in Sopot boils both on weekdays and on weekends. Summer cafes at the entrance to the shopping center will refresh all those who want to drink and satisfy hunger, slot machines located on the ground floor, will give unforgettable minutes of excitement to gamers, and shopping in such an interesting place is much more pleasant.
Every day near this house there are thousands of townspeople hurrying about their business or slowly strolling through the center of the city. Tourists consider it their duty not only to capture it for their photo-report, but also to be photographed themselves against the background of the unusual curved house in Poland and even buy a souvenir to commemorate this architectural miracle.
The planning and development of the historic center was carried out in accordance with the requirements of town planning, therefore, neither the height of the building nor any architectural elements of the curve makes the house look different from nearby buildings. Even the abundance of glass on the facade and on the roof does not give the right to attribute this building to the category of ultramodern ones. Everything here is present in moderation: both rational constructivism, and fabulous absurdity, and even a little fantasy.
If you are intrigued by the architecture of this building, and you certainly want to see what is inside, you can always visit the official site of the curve house and see photos of each floor. There is also an opportunity to go on a virtual trip - to wander through the corridors of the shopping center and carefully consider the house not only from the outside, but also inside.
The unique curve house in Poland could not remain unnoticed by the Internet community, and in the next voting it took first place as the most unusual and original construction of the world.
