Materials and tools for making felt herringbone

For sewing a herringbone of felt with our own hands, we will need:

• felt green;
• threads for embroidery of brown color;
• ribbon organza width of 2cm;
• cinnamon stick;
• acrylic paint in white color( any paint can be used);
• brush for paint;
• various decor: beads, lace, ribbons, rhinestones, etc.;
• cardboard;
• pencil;
• ruler;
• chalk for patterning;
• scissors;
• glue gun;
• needle;
• sintepon.

How to make a herringbone: step by step guide

In order to make a pattern from which a beautiful and neat herringbone of felt will later turn out, first cut out a cardboard pattern of an isosceles triangle 11 cm high and a base of 8 cm. Then draw a chalk outline of thistemplate on the felt two times and cut out the workpieces.

Fold two felt triangles so that their edges coincide. While holding the workpiece with your left hand, use a pair of scissors to cut out the wavy edge along the entire contour.

Remove the top layer of felt. We take an organza tape 20cm long, fold it in half and attach the ends with a glue gun to the upper corner of the triangle in the middle and the eyelet up, retreating from the edge about 2cm. Then bend the edges of the tape inside and squeeze it well. Hot glue should fix everything. On top put the second layer of felt and glue only the upper corners to hide the ends of the tape.

Now proceed to the processing of the edge of the workpieces. We will sew with a stitch seam and brown threads. Brown color matches very well with green. We start to make a seam from the right bottom corner in a direction upwards. We deviate 0.5cm from the edge and thread the needle onto ourselves only through the top layer. It turns out that the tail of the thread will be hidden between the layers.

Thread the two layers in the same hole with the needle and tighten the loop. After that, we retreat 0.5 cm and again thread the two layers from ourselves and tighten the loop. Stitches can be made of different lengths, but be sure they are at the same distance from each other.

Thus, make a seam around the edge, except the base, as it will need to fill the middle. We do not cut the thread at the end, later with it we sew the Christmas tree to the end.

The cinnamon stick for the fir-tree is suitable up to 10 cm long. It needs to be glued to the bottom layer of felt in the middle.

Fill the middle of the sintepon, pushing a little into the upper corner.

Sew the last side with the same seam and thread that was left. In the place where the stick of cinnamon begins, we sew only the top layer, and then again both. We hide the end of the thread between the layers.

The Christmas tree is completely sewn, then proceed to decorating.

We collect a little acrylic paint of white color on the brush and draw something like garlands on a fir-tree. Due to the texture of the felt, the lines will not be completely solid - this effect must be achieved.

In the end we decorate the fir-tree with different decor, as you wish. Very beautiful look large balls of silvery color. We glue them using an adhesive gun.
