Before you start making a shelf from wood, you need to figure out what this piece of furniture represents, and what types of shelves exist.
The most standard shelves in any apartment or house are almost an integral accessory, playing the role of both decorative decoration and the most sought-after element of furniture. In the office on the shelves there are folders and documents, in the kitchen there are dishes and other kitchen accessories, and in the hallway the shelves serve as a storehouse for all sorts of improvised items: lipsticks, gloves and keys. Outwardly it is a furniture product that does not have a front wall, which is made from different types of raw materials and is intended for storage of various items.
The classic material for making shelves is a tree. With a tree it is easy to work and process, and its service life is quite long, provided that the wooden shelf will be in optimal conditions with minimal humidity. The advantages of this material are obvious. First of all, this: high quality of the finished product, strength, durability and, importantly, environmental friendliness.
As a rule, shelves hinged most often are wooden, because they are quite strong and hardy. Treated additional wood protective coating, can serve you for many years.

In the conditions of a certain design, you can make a suitable shelf, with or without lighting, combined with the color of the walls in the room and the general invoice.
Load on wooden shelves
Before manufacturing shelves, it is important to determine the maximum permissible load on them, which depends on such nuances:
- thickness of wood. The more items you plan to place on the shelf, the thicker the board should be. In addition, the smaller the knots on the board, the more enduring it will be;
- mounting method. A ready-made wooden structure can be fixed to the wall using metal brackets, bars or special lugs. The most reliable and durable mounts are the brackets;
- number of fixtures on the shelf. These are long shelves for preservation, designed to withstand heavy weight. For example, a shelf with a length of 3 m should have at least 5 fastenings at half a meter distance from each other.
Wooden shelf with own hands
The manufacture of shelves from wooden parts should begin with the selection of tools necessary for work. In order to equip the storage room you will need:
- wood with a thickness of 2.5-3.0 cm;
- beams cross-section 2х3 m;
- 1 metal bracket( when storing more than 80 cm wide);
- pencil for marking;
- building level;
- self-tapping screws;
- drill.
Stages of manufacturing wooden shelves in the pantry:
- With a pencil, make a marking on the wall and determine how many shelves should be placed on the back side of the pantry. The preferred variant of placing floors is in steps of 30 cm.
- Using a level, make horizontal lines.
- After making the marking, fix in advance the cut off wooden bars. The length of one on each side should be 30 cm( this is the standard depth of the shelf, allowing you to install on it a 3-liter jar or box).
- When fixing the bar, use self-tapping screws for hexagon. Three screws are needed for long bars, and two for short ones.
- Work only with the treated wood. To do this, cut off the boards with sandpaper or a Bulgarian with a special nozzle.
- Attach the boards to the bars on the wall with screws. The length of the screws is determined to be 3.5-4 cm.
- If you do not have a special pipe for furniture, then buy it. It is necessary to ensure that the shelves do not bend under the weight of the load.
- Cut the pipe to the size corresponding to the height between the floor and the first shelf, reinforce the first shelf.
- Insert the pipe and secure with flanges.
- By the same principle, strengthen all other shelves with each other.
- Thanks to simple and simple actions we have a compact and convenient wooden shelving, in which each shelf is capable of withstanding rather large loads.

- On the horizontal parts of the shelf, make a 5 cm gap on the edges, make holes. The diameter of the drill must not exceed the diameters of the fastening screws.
- Assemble the shelf. To do this, from the plywood sheet, cut out the wall for the future shelf and screw it to the horizontal boards. Attach the slide rails for the panes. Fix all the parts of the shelf as shown in the picture below.
- Attach the brackets to the side walls from the end. Then make notes on the wall, drill holes, insert dowels, and in them - self-tapping screws, so that the latter protrude slightly from the wall so that you can hang the shelf.
- Insert into the shelf of the glass and hang it in a new place. The wall shelf is ready. Such wooden shelves can be successfully applied as a stand for flowers.
Corner wooden shelves are made according to a similar principle:
