Aluminum skirting board - brief characteristics of

This skirting board is of two types.

  1. Outdoor .It serves to protect the joint of wall and floor coverings, as well as to protect the wall covering from moisture and household chemicals during cleaning. It is mainly produced with a cable channel for the concealed wiring of wires and cables, but sometimes without it.
  2. Kitchen .Designed to protect the joint of the countertop and the working wall( apron) of the kitchen. If desired, can be covered with PVC film of a certain color. With it, you will forget about the constantly falling over the kitchen furniture cutlery.

Advantages of this type of skirting board include high wear resistance, resistance to household chemicals, the possibility of hidden pulling of cables and wires, as well as aesthetics of performance. In addition, the plinth has a rather high flexibility and fits snugly against the curved surface. However, the skirting aluminum has a fairly high cost, which keeps many economical consumers from installing it.

Installation of an aluminum skirting board

For installation of a skirting board we need the following tools: a perforator, a screwdriver, a gun for the use of sealant and glue in tubes. Plinth aluminum floor is mounted in three ways.

In the first case, this is done by using an aluminum or plastic substrate with an integrated cable channel .In this case, we perform the following actions.

  • Attach the substrate to the surface of the wall with dowels-nails( for concrete) or self-tapping screws( for silicate blocks, gypsum board, wood), 30-40 cm, and with a curved surface and more often.
  • Carefully lay the cable, then snap the cable cover( in case of mounting with a plastic backing).
  • Next, just in size, cut out the outer cover of the plinth made of aluminum, paying attention to the fact that when using the outer and inner corners, the lid for them should go 5-6 mm, and under the dowels 2-3 mm.
  • Then, delicately winding under the corners and joining bars, apply the aluminum cover to the substrate along the entire length, lightly pressing it with your fingers until a characteristic click.

Special features of mounting in other ways

The second method is using aluminum clips .The latter are attached to the surface of the wall with self-tapping screws or dowel nails after 30 cm. After cutting off the outer cover, we put a cable in it and dowel it in series to the fastening clips. It should be noted that this method is less reliable and more complex in execution than the first one.

It is also possible to carry out installation with adhesive or adhesive tape. Refers to thin non-composite plinths without a cable channel. In the case where such a skirting board is made with an adhesive tape, then for its installation it is necessary to simply tear off the protective film and press it against the wall.

If it is made without adhesive tape, then we first apply two tracks of quick-drying mounting glue 3-5 mm wide at the distance of 1 cm from the top and bottom edges of the plinth to the inner surface.

Then press the plinth against the wall with a long rule to ensure a tight fit of the plinth along the entire length, and hold it slightly in this position until the glue sets.

Aluminum kitchen skirting board is fixed absolutely the same as the floor, except that the table top under the bottom of the skirting base to ensure tightness must be treated with a silicone compound.
