The most important thing for people who want to trim the whole room with wood is the fact that wood never leavesout of fashion. Design, created in the early 20th century on the basis of natural material, looks great in our days. There are a lot of similar examples, and over time, wood decoration and furniture are becoming more attractive externally.

Also do not forget that the wood can be reworked, which allows you to regularly update the dwelling, adding some modern outlines. The good thing is that in this aspect there are no limitations, both in terms of design decisions, and on the practicality of using wood.

Of course, the wood has a lot of positive qualities, but in this material we will consider in detail the main possibilities associated with finishing the kitchen with wood. We will also analyze the main problems of this process. We can not ignore the issue of purchasing high-quality wood furniture, which will make the kitchen a cozy and warm place in the house.

The main features of the wooden kitchen

As already mentioned, the wood allows you to create comfort in almost any room. However, if it is a kitchen, then there is no doubt about the positive result. The good news is that the kitchen allows you to realize a wide variety of solutions related to the finishing of walls with wood, as well as the installation of furniture.

It is important to know that it is very easy to make a tasteless room out of a cozy kitchen. It is enough just to make the mistake of choosing the type of wood to make the kitchen look ridiculous. This needs to be understood, therefore, often design is made by professionals who know perfectly well what is combined with and what kind of thing will look good in a particular space.

Accordingly, it makes sense to find on the Internet a ready-made design solution, and on this basis to equip the kitchen. We will know which result will be obtained at the end. It will also be easy to understand the materials that will be needed in the process.

Wood materials for the manufacture of the kitchen set

First of all, you need to know that there is no need to use solid wood. It's too expensive. Also, it is impossible to exclude difficulties in the process of wood processing, since each tree has its own structure.

For small shelves or pedestals MDF can be used. The thickness of such panels should be 16 mm. This wood material is quite dense, so you can be sure of the high reliability of the created elements of the room. Also on sale you can find MDF with different color options. This allows you to significantly diversify the appearance of the kitchen.

If we need to create partitions for drawers and cabinets, thin panels based on fiberboard can be used. The thickness of this material is often limited to 5 mm.

To create a high-quality and durable worktop, it is best to use an array of wood, the thickness of which should be approximately 30 mm. In this situation, you can be sure that the table top will last more than one year. Also, wood can be re-processed, updating its appearance.

Do not forget that the wood mass must be pretreated with antiseptics.

Table top made of wood

It is obvious that the table is the most important component of any kitchen. Now we will try to consider in detail the process of creating a wood top, as well as take into account the main difficulties that you can face.

At the very beginning you need to decide on the dimensions of the future table top. In this case, it all depends on the size of the kitchen. If this room is small, it follows that the table top should be small in size. It is also necessary to take into account the fact that the table top should be convenient for daily operations.

It is worthwhile to approach the choice of wood species. It must be borne in mind that the durability of the future countertop depends on this. Often a choice is made in favor of the following tree species:

  • cherry;
  • oak;
  • walnut;
  • cherry.

Also often specialists create countertops based on exotic tree species. However, it should be borne in mind that such solutions are too expensive, so it is best to limit the above-mentioned wood species. If necessary, you can cover the tree of beauty or a special varnish, thereby making the surface of the countertop original and attractive externally. In this case, it is a question of rather modest financial expenditure.

In the process we will need such tools and materials:

  • wood;
  • paint / varnish;
  • joinery glue;
  • antiseptic;
  • sandpaper;
  • milling tool;
  • jointer;
  • clamps.

Do not forget that the boards needed for the countertop must have the same thickness, otherwise in the process of operation you can face a variety of problems.

Next, you need to decide on how to join the boards. It is worth bearing in mind that this is a very important aspect, which includes many subtleties.

  • "Edge to Edge" connection method. This is the easiest way to mount, and at the same time the most unreliable. In this case, the glue is used, therefore, during the operation period, the boards may become unstuck, and the occurrence of cracks or differences in the levels of the location of the material can not be ruled out.
  • "Edge-groove" method. Here, too, everything is simple, but, unlike the previous method, it is more reliable. Accordingly, a groove is created, which allows to qualitatively fix the parts of the future table. It is interesting that the grooves, most often, are small( up to 15 mm).The grooves in the wood are created with the help of a milling cutter, which ensures the excellent quality of the grooves created. You can also purchase ready-made metal slots and install them in the right places.

After fixing, it is necessary to treat the wood surface. To do this, it is necessary to use a varnish that will give a pleasant shade to the wood, and also protect the natural material from external phenomena. Apply the varnish to the surface best with a brush. When using dark lacquer, the places that were missed when processing the material will be immediately visible. Also, wood can be covered with a layer of paint, but a positive result in this case is quite rare.

Do not forget about additional activities related to the creation of table tops. It is about creating a protective edge of the table. This is a mandatory measure that will make the countertop more attractive, and also protects the main surface from accidental damage. For this we need 4 blocks of hardwood. Of course, it is best to use birch or beech, but the oak does not suit this situation, because it is too heavy. The height of the bars should correspond to the height of the wood surface of the countertop, but the thickness can vary from 5 mm to 1.5 cm. A one-sided comb is created along the edges of the table top. This can be done with a manual cutter. Accordingly, we have a kind of groove, which serves as a fastener to the table top. The protective edge is smeared with glue( you can use PVA), and firmly pressed against the main part of the table. To do this, you can use additional fastening tools. After the glue is completely dry, sandpaper can be used to qualitatively process the wood.

Manufacture of kitchen chairs

Unlike many other kitchen accessories, chairs can be relatively easy to make by hand. Moreover, do not think that in the end we will get a too simple chair. With the help of simple actions it is possible to transform this element of the kitchen, resorting only to minimal financial costs.

In this process, the following materials and tools will not be superfluous:

  • wood bars;
  • plywood( preferably large thickness);
  • construction pencil;
  • ruler, angle;
  • saw;
  • grinding machine( or set of sandpaper);
  • drill;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • brush;
  • varnish.

All the above tools and materials can be purchased without any problems or borrow. However, it should be noted that instead of a saw, you can use a jigsaw, preferably an electric( this will significantly speed up the process).

Accordingly, we need bars to create the legs of chairs, as well as horizontal fasteners of the structure. As for plywood, it will be used to create a seat. Thus, it is very important to bear in mind that the plywood must be thick and uniform.

Before starting the process, it will not hurt to create a full-fledged drawing of the future chair. In this case, you need to mark all the dimensions from which you can repulse. It is enough to represent the types of chairs on top and side.

Next comes the basic process of creating a chair:

  1. First you need to take the bars and check their condition. Of course, the wood should not have any flaws, as well as curvatures and bulges. All the marks on the size of a pencil. Using a saw cut off excess parts of the bars, while paying attention to geometric accuracy. To do this, you can use a chair that will not allow you to saw the wood crookedly. In the same way, we saw off all 4 legs of the future chair.
  2. We also need so-called partitions, located between the legs. This is the most important part of the design, which ensures its integrity. In this case, it is extremely important to meet all the planned sizes, otherwise the chair will not be built.
  3. Then, on the basis of plywood( or a large wooden shield), we cut out the seat. Here again, you should take seriously the dimensions, since any deviations will immediately strike the eye.
  4. Now you need to arm yourself with sandpaper and carefully sand the legs, partitions and seat. It is with the help of emery that all the flaws that can be on the wood can be minimized. It is also possible to use a grinding machine that will even more efficiently process the tree.
  5. At the very end, there is a chair assembly. For this you can use self-tapping screws with plugs. Also, special grooves are often created, which allow to connect all parts of the future chair. In this case, it is necessary to use PVA glue, which for many years will ensure the strength of the connection.

Covering kitchen walls with wooden panels

If we want to make the kitchen completely woody, we should take care of the walls. Accordingly, for this you can use MDF wood panels, which every year occur in homes more often. And this is not surprising, since these panels have a huge number of advantages that are not available in other finishes. First of all, it is possible to note the universality of the material, since it can be used in virtually any room. In addition, to install MDF panels do not need to pre-fill or level the surface.

Of course, MDF panels are produced on the basis of a fibreboard, so those who want to trim the walls with solid wood, should pay attention to other options.

The finishing of kitchen walls with MDF panels includes the following steps:

  1. A frame is created, on the basis of which panels will be fastened. This can be a wooden crate or a frame made of metal profiles. The second option is more durable, however, the wood base will also come down.
  2. Panel mounting starts from the corner. Fastening of the first panel occurs by a comb to a corner on the basis of self-tapping screws. All subsequent panels are fixed by means of grooves. It is necessary to ensure that all components of the skin are tightly connected with each other.
  3. In the end, you should install the corners around the skin, which will become the original borders for the panels. Also, the material can be treated with lacquer to protect it from the effects of moisture, grease or dirt. In this scenario, the panels last very long, and if necessary they can easily be replaced with new ones.
