Underfloor heating under the laminate

The warm floor under the laminate will make this coating not only modern and beautiful, but also functional: you can create a comfortable microclimate indoors at any time of the year in a matter of minutes. Run a warm floor under the laminate with their own hands is quite possible, even without expensive technology and concrete screed.

For laminate coating, you will need:

  • Heat-reflecting substrate( isospane, megasole and the like);
  • Infrared carbon film( film with carbon coating);
  • Waterproofing film( polyethylene from 160 md)
  • Assembly and electrical tape;
  • Installation wire( copper 2.5 mm2);
  • Soldering iron;
  • Thermostat and floor temperature sensor.

Underfloor heating

The warm floor under the laminate can be installed in any room with your own hands. Requirements to the base are minimal - it should be level, not have any bumps and cracks. The room should be able to connect to an AC 220 V network.

Stages of work:

  1. Before laying a warm floor, it is necessary to clean the rough surface of dirt, debris. It is better to do this with a vacuum cleaner.
  2. Measure the dimensions of the room and make the material calculation. The infrared film can not be overlapped. Therefore, if the standard number of strips does not fit into the width of your room, you can make small gaps between them or not put heating tape in place of furniture installation.
  3. The heat-reflecting substrate when laying a warm floor under the laminate is placed over the entire area of the room. It can be cut if necessary.
  4. The substrate joints are glued with adhesive tape from the upper side.
Stage 1 - Preparation of the roughing surface

Stage 1 - Preparing the rough surface for laying the underfloor heating

  1. The heating infrared film is cut to the size of the room. Cut it only on white areas, without violating the carbon black layer.
  2. Lay the infrared film on the floor throughout the entire area of the room, free from bulky furniture: sliding-door wardrobes, furniture walls, massive household appliances. Heat transfer under such furniture is broken, and the film can overheat during operation.
  3. Copper busbars are cut off with electrotechnical tape on the slices, bending it across the cutting site. It must be ensured that air does not get under the scotch.
  4. The grounding bar( it is usually located in the center of the film and is protected only by lamination) must be bent from both sides so that it does not touch the slices and the remaining white areas.

2nd stage -Destruction of the

  1. heating film The film strip, freed from the copper ground bus, is insulated with electrical tape, gluing it with the bend on the wrong side.
  2. Film sections are also insulated with adhesive tape: glue it halfway across, bend through the slice.
  3. The film is aligned at the location and fastened to the substrate on the opposite side of the thermoregulator placement.
  4. Begin the soldering of wires connecting the sections of the film. Bend the film from the side of the regulator installation with the wrong side up. For convenience, you can temporarily fix it with a mounting tape. Prepare a mounting wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm2, a soldering iron with a capacity of 50-60 W, and solder. From the protective buses on the edges of the film, the insulation is stripped point-wise. To do this, it is convenient to use a heated soldering iron and a clerical knife: the soldering iron marks the edges of the cut, melting the insulation, and using a knife perform a sweep.

  1. The sections of the film are connected in parallel by soldering. Stripping the installation wire from the insulation must be done carefully, without cutting the core, in an area sufficient for soldering. When joining parts of the film, the rule "phase-zero" is observed. It is more convenient to use for this purpose a wire with insulation of different colors. When soldering, you need to make sure that the wires do not intersect and are not pulled in, otherwise they may be damaged or broken. Pass through the plinth better to lay in the corrugated tube.
  2. The soldering points must be insulated with an electrical tape of at least 5х5 cm size.
  3. Place a floor temperature sensor under the film, making for it a recess in the heat-reflecting substrate with a knife. The sensor should be placed under the film in the middle of its working area, in the warmest place of the room, in order to avoid overheating of the film. The wire that comes with the sensor is laid on the substrate and led towards the temperature regulator. It must be fixed to the substrate with an adhesive tape.
  4. The wires from the sensor are stripped, tinned and connected to the corresponding terminals on the thermostat. Also connect the mounting wire leading to the heating film bars and the power cable.

Work related to soldering wires and connecting to a thermostat

  1. . Like the supply buses, the grounding buses of the film are connected. To do this, they are peeled off from the laminating layer, pruned if necessary and connected with a copper strip or wire. The wires at the outlet are passed through the corrugated tube.
  2. The corrugated pipe is insulated at the connection points with the heating film by means of an insulating tape.
  3. The film is fixed to the substrate with a mounting tape, gluing it from all sides. At the same time, care must be taken to avoid overlapping the pieces of the heating film with each other.
  4. A grounding wire from the corrugated tube is attached to the thermoregulator's ground terminal or, if not, directly to the ground loop.

  1. Before laying the finish coat, the working capacity of the warm floor must be checked. To do this, it is connected to the 220 V power network, the thermostat is set in the middle position and the heating by the toggle switch is turned on. Switch on for a short time, for 1 minute. The heating of all parts of the film is checked by hand.
  2. With a film, gently sweep away the remnants of the mounting wire and other debris. If necessary, it can be vacuumed.
  3. Infrared film for better waterproofing covered with a polyethylene film with a overlap on the walls of 10-20 cm. The thickness of the polyethylene film - from 160 microns.
  4. Over the film laminate laid on the usual technology.

The infra-red warm floor under the laminate is an excellent solution for living rooms: it warms perfectly, without drying air like conventional radiators, and creates a comfortable indoor microclimate.

So we put the warm floor under the laminate with our own hands, but we think it will be useful for you to read about the water-heated floor by yourself, the connection of the thermostat to the warm floor, and about the cork flooring.
