Drywall is a versatile material that allows you to completely modify the living space in a very short time. At the same time, investments will be minimal. Another indisputable advantage is the almost complete absence of garbage. Nevertheless, he likes not everyone, but the reason for negative reviews is simple - non-compliance with the installation technology.

Varieties drywall
great importance for the method of mounting has the form of plasterboard. There are only three of them:
- waterproof( width 8-10 mm),
- wall( width 10-12 mm),
- ceiling( width 6-8 mm).
Moisture-resistant plasterboard is the most expensive, therefore it is usually used only in bathrooms.
Walling is the most common. Thicknesses of 10 mm are more than enough to provide a reliable and durable surface. Nevertheless, in the sale of more common sheets with a thickness of 12 mm.
Ceiling gypsum board, as the name implies, is used to arrange ceilings. It is not only the easiest, but it has a specific composition that does not allow the use of material for other types of work.
How far to fix the drywall
The answer to this question depends on the type of drywall. Of course, the smaller the distance between supports, the stronger the sheet, so the best option is sticking. Unfortunately, this method is not always suitable, so you have to use a metal profile.
According to the building regulations and practical recommendations of experts, the following parameters are used:
- for wall gypsum the base plates are installed no less than every 40 cm,
- for moisture resistant - every 60 cm,
- for ceiling - it is necessary to collect a grid from the profile with a mesh size not exceeding 40х40see
It is not yet sufficient to install the support correctly. It is necessary to accurately mark the holes for the screws. If you screw them too often, break the integrity of the sheet, it crumbles and falls out. Insufficient number of fastenings will lead to similar consequences. The recommended distance between the screws - every 20 cm. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the distance from the edge of the sheet to the screw should be at least 0.5 cm, otherwise the edge will crumble.
Than to fix a gypsum cardboard to profile
It is worth noting and the fact that all installation work should be performed by the appropriate types of screws. There are only two of them:
- screws for metal profiles,
- screws for gypsum board.
The first type of screws, also comes in two varieties:
- metal-metal,
- metal-wood.
Metal-metal is used to connect two profiles. The screw has at the end a special drill, which easily allows you to connect the elements together. Dimensions - 3,5Х9,5 mm.
Metal-wood, used if the profile is attached to a wooden structure, the end of the screw is sharp, it cuts through the metal with effort, but is firmly fixed in the wood. Dimensions - 3,8Х11 mm.
As a rule they are made of galvanized steel, sometimes I have phosphated coating. The first option is suitable for metal-metal type, the second - for wood.
Any other mounting options will not provide a reliable connection of materials and will lead to the fact that the structure will quickly loosen and crumble.
Screws for plasterboard are quite a few varieties. The main distinguishing parameters:
- thickness,
- is long.
In theory, gypsum board assumes fastening on it shelves or other not very heavy hinged elements, in practice this is true only in relation to the paintings. In all other cases it is necessary to drill into the supporting wall and install standard plugs.
Therefore, screws of minimum size( they are the cheapest) will do. To distinguish them is quite simple. They have a sharp end and almost even very fine threads. This is necessary in order to exclude the possibility of loosening and minimally destroy the drywall.
When answering the question about how to fix a drywall with self-tapping screws, it should be noted that they should be covered with a phosphated coating( black color).First, it reduces friction( cutting through drywall, the seam does not destroy the structure of gypsum), and secondly, it completely protects against corrosion.
Which side to fasten the drywall
The question is also urgent about how to apply drywall to the surface. In order to answer it, you need to understand the device of the standard sheet. It consists of:
- back paper,
- gypsum layer,
- face paper.
The back paper has a cardboard color, in addition, there are factory marks on it. It is this side that applies the gypsum to the wall. The front part is usually white( if it's a moisture resistant drywall, then green).
"Face" differs not only in color, but also in texture. More durable high quality paper is used. In production, it is glued in two stages. First, the inner layer, which maximizes all the mounds and irregularities, then external. As a result, the surface is perfectly flat.
From the chemical point of view, "face" contains a higher percentage of cellulose, respectively, has increased adhesion( reduces the consumption of primers, paints or adhesives for wallpaper, while providing a high quality of the connection).
These circumstances explain the advisability of correctly placing drywall sheets. In addition to purely construction nuances, there is also an aesthetic factor. If you place the sheets inside out, the marking will be absorbed into the paint or glue and will appear on the walls. This process will not happen immediately, but sooner or later it will manifest itself. In physics, this phenomenon is called diffusion and involves the penetration of molecules and atoms of one substance into another, similar to it in structure.
How to fix drywall
From the theory we turn to practice. The assembly process consists of the following steps:
- dimensioning and drawing drawing up,
- frame assembly,
- insulation or noise insulation mounting,
- drywall assembly.
Before you get started, you just need to clear the dimensions and draw a plan. If it is a question of fixing gypsum on the walls, then on the plan you only need to display the skeleton. In this case, it is important that a support bar is located in each corner. The distance between the intermediate supports should be the same, and it is desirable that they do not have edges of gypsum sheets. In fact, this is the most time-consuming process.
If it is a construction of a plasterboard, the dimensions are removed in approximately the same way. At the same time, the graphic image will allow making certain corrections and visually demonstrate how well the object fits into the room.
The next step is assembling the skeleton. The first thing to do is set the guides - this is a "P" shaped wide profile, which is attached to the bottom and top of the wall or along the perimeter of the ceiling( if it is only a ceiling). The guides not only specify a vector for setting the carrier profiles, but also serve as beacons. It is important to set them perfectly smoothly. If a gap forms between the wall and the profile, then either cardboard or wood must be inserted into it( depending on the size of the slot).Unlike the frame itself, the guides are fastened with dowels at a distance of no more than 30 cm from each other. After installation, the guides are mounted the frame itself, all the raw data are indicated in the drawing.
If the gypsum is mounted on a wall, then it is necessary to use thermal insulation. For these purposes, the mineral wool is optimal. More reliable heat savings will provide foam rubber. Polyfoam and other heaters are not suitable.
No insulation is required for free-standing structures, but the void must be filled. First, to suppress noise, and secondly, so that different parasites are not triggered. In a private house it is more expedient to use glass wool, in apartments there will be enough ordinary cotton wool. In both cases, it is important that no voids remain.
The final stage is the installation of plasterboard. The procedure has its own nuances, which need to be considered in more detail.
How to fix plasterboard to the wall
Easier, faster and more reliable to glue the plaster sheet directly to the bearing surface. But, if a metal frame is still needed, then the fixation of the gypsum should be carried out using the following recommendations:
- for screwing screws to use a quality screwdriver,
- to set the average rotation mode,
- when screwing strongly press on the screw so that it comes from the first time.
In addition to these simple rules, there are a few tips on how to install the drywall:
- first install the bottom corner plate,
- it is fixed with one screw,
- then check the level and fix the cross with a second screw,
- then the sheet is squeezed around the perimeter,
- only after that they begin to fasten the sheet to the bearing slats, the
- procedure is performed sequentially, passing from one bar to the other.
This sequence of actions, firstly, allows you to do the work yourself, secondly it provides the most reliable fixation and saves the level.
How to mount drywall to the ceiling
The basic tips are the same as in the case of fastening drywall on the wall. Nevertheless, there are some peculiarities. The first of these is the size and weight of the gypsum. Keep the sheet and at the same time perform a fixation to one person is difficult. The tempting idea to cut an entire canvas into small pieces immediately should be discarded, since the more seams, the less beautiful the ceiling will be. And if you collect it from very small pruning, then you will have to put it on without fail.
Therefore, before starting the installation of a ceiling from gypsum board, you should immediately find an assistant. For work, he will need either a long mop or a homemade analog. With this tool, the assistant will hold the sheet until you screw it to the profile. This work assumes a sufficiently large force load, so children and adolescents can not be admitted to it.
In order to raise the sheet from the first time there is a little trick. First, the installer must climb the woods, the assistant gives him one end of the sheet, and he begins to raise the second. As soon as a squeegee gets in between the mole and the gypsum, it needs to be inserted. Then the sheet is raised to the ceiling. The assistant's task is to install the mop as close as possible to the center of the gypsum board.
It is important to understand that the installer also holds the sheet, the load on it is minimal, but it is always necessary to hold one hand with one hand. Therefore, self-tapping screws should be taken immediately and in sufficient quantities. The same applies to the instrument. When fixing the sheet to the ceiling, fixing the screws is carried out linearly from the edge that the installer holds, to the edge on which the assistant is located. After half of the sheet is fixed to hold it no longer necessary, the mop only presses the fabric to make it easier to screw the screws.
Often, when using plasterboard for the arrangement of the ceiling create multi-level structures. If it is a question of squares, it is clear that several ordinary frames are assembled. So let's talk about how to create semicircular and round shapes.
First of all, a semicircular frame is cut from the metal profile. For this, the side faces of the profile are cut at a distance of every 5-7 cm and bent at the right angle. Then cut a strip of gypsum of the necessary width and soaked in water. To ensure that the gypsum is wet and has become suitable for bending it is enough for 30 minutes( in warm water).
To bend a bar it is necessary gradually and accurately, after giving it the necessary form, it is necessary to wait while it completely will dry up( not less than 12 hours).Next, we use the standard mounting procedure. More clearly demonstrates how to fix drywall, video from the article.
