How to protect window structures from hacking and weather? Lattices will not always look harmonious on the facade of the house. Their main disadvantage is the impossibility of temporary dismantling. The best way to provide the necessary level of protection, while retaining the original exterior of the house, is the installation of a protective roller shutter on the windows.
Construction
Modern rolet designs are the result of many years of modification of the initially imperfect models of garage doors. Even before this, such a principle of manufacturing a damper was used in the manufacture of furniture, in particular - the office. The production technology was simple - the wooden plates were connected together by a groove method and installed in special guide grooves. The flexibility of the design made it possible to conceal the protective panel behind oval or cylindrical panels in furniture.
The same principle formed the basis of modern protective shutters, or as they are now called - roller shutters. A typical design is shown in the diagram:
The work of the mechanism is best considered step by step. Suppose that the shutter is installed and is in the closed state. In order to open it you need to perform the following actions:
- With the drive( mechanical or electric), an octagonal shaft is actuated. It has a special spring, which compensates for the weight of the set-leaf, consisting of several aluminum canvases. They are connected to each other by means of grooves and a vertical bonding tape.
- When the shaft rotates, the webs go up and puncture on its surface. The outer protective box prevents dust and dirt from entering the lifting mechanism.
- After the maximum opening height has been reached, the shaft movement will be impossible. The blade will be fixed with a belt drive.
Turning the handle in the opposite direction, the construction will close. For protection in the last profile a locking mechanism is installed - a lock with side retainers.
Mounting of roller shutters
Is it possible to install such a structure yourself? Yes, but with this it is necessary to strictly follow the installation technology. In particular, this concerns the first stage of the project - taking measurements. First select the installation location in the window opening. It directly depends on the size of the bevel of the wall in this place.
Then the installation locations of the guide rods and the box are marked. It is best to give the sizes obtained to specialists of a specialized company that are engaged in the implementation of components for roller blinds. According to these data they will constitute the optimal set for the installation of roller shutters. During the reconciliation, the following points should be considered:

Opening method - mechanical or by electric drive. The latter is certainly more convenient, but has one significant drawback - dependence on external power sources. If you turn off the electricity, it will be impossible to open the roller from the inside. On the outer part of the box there is a special hole for the hex wrench for emergency opening of the leaf. - Selecting a fabric. If in addition to protection it is necessary to provide additional energy savings, then it is possible to select panels with a heat-insulating layer. In some cases, inserts with inspection slots or completely lattice construction are made.
The dimensions of the canvas are completely dependent on the dimensions of the structure and the diameter of the shaft.
Having chosen the required set of components, you can proceed with installation. This will require the following materials and tools:
- Drill.
- Measuring instrument - measuring tape, level. Screwdriver or screwdriver.
At the first stage, it is necessary to make mounting holes in the base for the guides( step - 30 cm) and the base of the protective box( along the edges of the structure and in the horizontal parts).
They are attached to each other and installed in a window opening. Guides are attached to the base. The shaft and reducer are attached to the resulting structure.
Pre-collect the canvas of lamellas. Connecting their butt joint, a special cap is mounted on each end. It will not only protect you from dirt, but will also help to better co-ordinate the elements. The blade is mounted in the guides and fastened to the shaft.
The drive operation is checked, the upper part of the construction is closed with a protective cover.
Despite the apparent simplicity during installation, you may encounter a number of problems. Without experience and qualified training they can not be solved. Therefore, despite the high cost of the installation( in some cases up to 20% of the price of the roller shutters), it is recommended to invite specialists to perform these works.
