Why do we need a box in the bathroom?
In any bathroom there is a certain number of pipes through which water flows. It's not always possible to hide them, that's why they somewhat spoil the design. To avoid this, builders use several methods of hiding them, one of the most common is a box.
The installation of the box is of great importance for luxury bathrooms, faced with unique tiles, and expensive plumbing fixtures. In addition, in the box all the pipes become available, you can periodically replace and paint pipes. Therefore, the box is an aesthetic and functional necessity in every bathroom. Take care of its installation in advance.
Features of the box
The box is a simple box, which sheathes the pipes. Plasterboard, chipboard, plywood and other similar materials can act as plating. It is best to use drywall, as it is quite strong, durable and available in the building materials market. It can be painted, wallpapered or plastered. The device box consists of a structure around the pipe, which is clogged with drywall sheets. The frame can be metal or wooden. The choice of material does not really matter, the main thing is to make the framework strong and rigid.
There is nothing complicated in this, and you can make a box with your own hands. It is only necessary to correctly calculate the consumables, it is desirable that they do not come into contact with the pipes.
Variants of the
box Depending on the material of manufacture, the following box variants are distinguished:
- Of plastic panels. You can buy plastic panels from any store. Experts recommend to join them horizontally. First, a detailed drawing of the future product is made to calculate the demand for materials. For such a box, not only panels and a frame are needed, but also bars, screws, profiles and plinths. First, vertical bars are fixed along the walls by means of screws. Then expose 1 or 2 central bars, depending on the design. The plastic panels of the required length are cut. The stapler fixes the profile and plinth, and then the panels are inserted in turn.
- Of plasterboard. First, a metal frame is assembled and installed on the walls. Plates of plasterboard are cut into the necessary pieces and fixed on the structure with screws. Further gypsum cardboard can be processed with any materials.
- Cabinet-cabinet. Any box will occupy the free space of the room. If there are several pipes located close to each other, they can be hidden in one box, which will act as a cabinet. It can make several convenient shelves. You can make such a cabinet from any material, the same drywall or plywood. Doors do not have to be done by yourself, but you can buy them in the store.
Making a box with our own hands
It's quite easy to make a box yourself. In total there are 2 device circuits, depending on the placement of the pipe itself:
Pipe in the corner of the room
To create such a box, 3 profiles are needed, on which 2 strips of material will be fixed, in this case - drywall.
All work is carried out in this order:
- the height of the future device is measured, according to which three profile slats are measured and cut;
- measures the width of the box walls. If it is planned to tile the walls with tiles, then it is better to adapt it to the dimensions of the tile;
- on the walls are marked the places of installation of two profiles and fix them with screws;
- cut 2 pieces of plasterboard of the required dimensions. They are attached to the profiles on the wall, and between them a third profile is fixed, which will serve as an edge of rigidity.
Pipe in the middle of the wall
In this case, the box will consist of three walls of plasterboard and four profiles. To impart greater strength, additional spacers between the walls can be used.
The installation process is as follows:
- two vertical profiles are installed on the walls;
- measures the width of future walls - it is the distance between the profiles;
- cuts two pieces of plasterboard for the walls, which are screwed to the profiles with screws;
- measures the width for the future end wall and cuts out a piece of the corresponding dimensions;
- to the already installed walls fix two vertical profiles;
- to the profiles screw the last wall.
This is the standard installation procedure for the box. Of course, in some situations deviation from this sequence is possible, for example, when there is a branching of the pipes.
Cladding of the box
The gypsum board, plywood and some other materials can be painted or wallpapered. But since the boxes are installed mainly in the bathrooms, they are faced with tiles, because it is resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations. It is quite simple to lace a small box with tiles. It is necessary to calculate the amount of materials, purchase a tile, a special glue, a spatula and plastic elements to fill the seams between the tiles. On the surface of the box, apply a uniform layer of glue, to which the tiles are pressed for a couple of seconds. For cutting tiles special devices are provided, a grinder with a diamond circle disc or a drill bit.
But if you trim the frame of the box with plastic panels of the right color, then no cladding is required. Such panels are durable, resistant to moisture and high temperatures, and also simply washed.
Thus, the box in the bathroom is the necessary device, if you do not want to spoil the overall interior of the room with pipes. Do it yourself on your own very quickly and easily.
