Complete renovation in the apartment is completed by replacing the door, which can not be installed without casing, where all the installation features are hidden. When you replace the door leaf, it is not necessary to change the entire door frame, but you can not do without replacing the old casings with new ones. They must match the new door in style, color and texture. The aesthetic appearance of the door is guaranteed, saving tangible and installing independently one trim on the door - a fairly simple task.

The purpose of the door trims
The doors are selected according to the overall interior styling. They can be bought in the form of a door leaf and complemented with appropriate platbands. The purchase of a fully equipped door frame will cost much more. You can stop the choice on the classic and buy in a single style of entrance and interior doors. In the classics different forms of platbands are used.
The general design of the doorframe design can include:
- edging of the door leaf by the cornice;
- vertical protrusions-pilasters, imitating a column;
- capital, reminiscent of a decorative shelf above the top platband.
However, in most cases, limited to a simple door with casing, preferring a door leaf of a natural massif or eco-paint. It successfully imitates the noble texture of wood, and for interior doors, any shades - from bleached oak to a chocolate palette of wenge - are suitable. The role of the decor is made of glass inserts or strict overhead elements. However, here you can not do without platbands, which hide the junction of the wall and the door frame. The entrance door assumes a heavy and solid wooden canvas.
Platbands are decorative lining for the decoration of a window or doorway made of profiled strips. In the production of platbands, deciduous or coniferous species are used, and veneering with elite types of wood is widely used. All these options are used not only for the manufacture of doors, but also for clypees on interior doors or entrance doors. Door trim - the simplest way to mask the gap between the door frame and the wall of the doorway. A competent choice of profiled strips is made not only in accordance with the texture and color, but also taking into account the minimum and maximum width.
Modern door trim is made of different materials;
- imitating any wood ekoshpon;
- of a natural array( wood);
- laminated plastic, repeating the wood texture;
- MDF coated with veneer.
Installation of clypees on the entrance door or interior is made at the final stage. It is also important to take into account that after these works it is difficult to make in the room accurate painting of walls or pasting with wallpaper. Finishing works are carried out before the door is installed, in extreme cases, you can apply and paint tape. But the fastening of the floor skirting is better to perform after you make the trim for the door.
Tip: Please note that for platbands, wood texture is not as important as color matching. Often an interior or entrance door is made of one material, and the platbands are slightly different. And if they were purchased separately, it is difficult to achieve complete similarity. Color - this is what you pay attention to in the first place, and the shades of platbands and door leaf should be as close as possible. But sometimes the idea of design is such that the frame of the door and the plinth should be the same color. This technique is used when there is no possibility of achieving similarity, then the principle of contrast is applied, which should fit organically into the concept of general design.
Cases of varieties
Platbands make independently of the solid beam, and there are decorative blanks that are purchased in ready-made form and cut the clypeus to the door to the size of the desired length on its doorway.
Door casings come in several forms, for example, telescopic and simple overhead. Telescopic, as it were, round the ledges from the plane of the clypeus, entering the grooves on the box - the casing on the photo door.
1. In the form of platbands are produced in the basic varieties:
- simple overhead, flat processed board, a classic option for any style;
- rounded on the front end, look a bit unusual and elegant;
- figured cut by a cutter with grooves of grooves of the different form, extremely graceful and attractive.
2. Difference in the material from which door casings are made:
- from different types of wood, most often - profiled with milling cutters, sometimes even hand-carved wood;
- laminated wood lining plastic( PVC or polyurethane), resemble material for plastic windows;
- profiled or straight metal( steel, aluminum);
- composite materials from several components( laminated plywood, MDF).
3. There are also varieties for the installation of casings:
- the simplest overhead that fixes on the door frame;
- telescopic, have a protrusion, the so-called spout or wing, which allows you to insert parts in the slots of the frame, they are used on some deviations of the door frame from the vertical walls, hiding all the defects.
Tip: When the angle of sawing is not accurate at the junction of the lateral and upper clypeus, then a slot will be inevitable in this place. It must be neatly masked with a sealant or acrylic glue with the addition of a suitable pigment. If there is a gap between the wall and the casing, you can fill the void with plaster, using the mounting tape, so as not to stain the surface.
Materials and accessories for fixing the trims
The function of the clypees on the door is to hide or mask all the defects in the doorway and form the cracks between the door frame and the opening in the wall. Carefully attached platbands on the interior or entrance doors give them a finished look. It is very important to hide all joints at the corners as much as possible, so as not to create crevices with obvious traces of carpenter's glue. You can attach the casing planks in different ways:
1. Finished platbands from wood are easiest to mount on glue, for example, liquid nails or other suitable for building view. This method is used when the walls are perfectly even, and the casing with decorative troughs, and the use of nails is undesirable. Also extremely hard materials are easier to paste than to nail.
2. Mounting foam is used extremely rarely, as it bursts inside the wood and plastic. However, for mounting the metal profile as a casing, it is possible to use it, but in minimal quantities, taking into account all precautions for working with this building material.
3. When to stick the platbands is not real, then use nails. It is quite effective - to fasten the planks of clypeus with special thin nails, preferably without hats. The tops of long nails can also be cut off on their own. If nails with small hats are used, then their tips are slightly inundated. For maximum effect, they are masked with a corrective pencil on the basis of wax or with an acrylic sealant that exactly matches the shade of wood or other material.
4. Effectively fasten the clypeus and the shooting pins with a construction gun, but you must have the skill to get the most accurate. This is appropriate where you can not use adhesive and other methods, for example, if it is temporary fastening, and under the casing will be further laid the Internet cable.
5. If the platbands are made of their nonstandard dense materials, metal or from MDF, then it is possible to mount special methods. For example, it is sometimes necessary to pre-drill holes for nails or screws that will be used to facilitate installation.
6. There is another backup option, when the platbands are installed on special fasteners, "beaks" - they are sold in specialized stores with the installation instructions attached to them.
Advice: MDF and plastic platbands can simply be glued. Plastic plies prefer to glue. Flexibility of plastic gives an advantage - they are suitable for a wall with small defects and irregularities, for example, in an old sagging house.
Special features of mounting the telescopic casing
In some cases, the doors are available as a finished box with the entire installation kit. Detailed instructions excludes errors and shortcomings, it is important only to understand the names - what are the docks, the box and the telescopic clypeus. This is a well-designed patented technology, which does not require any special fasteners.
Sometimes additional extras are required, but this is if the width of the wall is greater than the expected width. Otherwise, small deviations in the vertical and the dimensions of the box itself, which does not coincide with the width of the doorway, is easy to perform when adjusting the frame.
All the features of the installation of the door frame with telescopic trim are clear from the manufacturer's instructions. Telescopic trim on the door with their own hands set strictly according to the technological scheme. A characteristic feature of this design is the rounded shape of the frame and the protrusion-slot, which must be installed in the prepared groove. This attachment can additionally be fixed with liquid nails.
Manufacturing of door frames independently
For working with wood, the corresponding tool is used:
- sawmill for cutting wood;
- woodworking machine for preparing stockings;
- planer for machining the plane of the cut board;
- thicknesser for extruding blanks of the same size;
- hand power tool;
- grinding machine;
- Bulgarian.
Immediately proceed to the manufacture of clypeus with the help of the tool is available only with experience. Therefore, it makes no sense to talk about the features of the work, we are talking about a phased technology.
Tip: Choosing the optimal board is a crucial step, because a quality dry board, without knots and defects, is needed for the billets under the platbands. It is important to compare the direction of the wood fibers in the lateral clypees, since the appearance after stain, painting or opening with varnish will differ. It's a matter of taste - to choose wood without a pattern or textured.
The cutting of the preforms for the platbands and the processing is done a bit larger, for the subsequent adjustment, so as not to be measured. Make sure that the tool is well sharpened and cut accurately at the measured angles, otherwise the cut will be sloppy, you will have to mask the defects.
After preliminary registration of the platbands, quality grinding is needed, which is done in 2 stages:
- rough machining with electric tools;
- manual, using fine-grained sandpaper, rubbing the edges of the fibers, circular scratches and small chips.
A cut at an angle of 45 ° is done after accurate measurements, just before installation, and not in the carpentry workshop. Note that you will need 2 pairs of blanks - on both sides of the door frame.
Preparation for installation of side frames
For the installation of door trims, you will need:
- jigsaw or saw( small teeth);
- tape measure, pencil and angle;
- pliers;
- furniture nails and hammer.
If the mounting method differs, the additional tool is taken into account.
Platbands are attached to the wall prepared after repair, after installation of the door frame and before installing the skirting board.
Begin processing on the side where the door leaf should open - from where the door hinges are located. Measurements are made from the bar that closes the box, where the clypeus begins. The indentation is the same for 3 sides, taking into account the fitting of the door. On the reverse side of the door, it is not necessary.
Door trim is important to fasten well around the perimeter of the door frame, but the installation starts from the sidewall where the hinges are fastened. We accurately measure the length of the vertical workpiece, taking into account the indentation, adding to the length. From this point, the line starts to saw off the excess at an angle of 45 °.Note that the second clypeus is not measured on the first, but on the wall, as well as applying and measuring for maximum accuracy. Dimensions are often different, even by 1-3 mm, but this will affect the quality of the joint.
Treated strips with cut off upper corners are nailed by the nails at the base, and the other by about a meter. It is necessary that an upper piece of the workpiece for accurate measurements can be placed under the uncompleted tops. Under the upper corners, a short clypeus is gently laid and marks are marked, from where the sawing will go exactly at an angle of 45 °.Next, the workpiece is removed and cut with a miter saw or other tool. It is important to observe the accuracy of sawing and the exact angle, otherwise on the joint will have to fill the slots.
Fixing the platbands
1. After the 2 long sides and 1 short cut are ready, you can slightly trim the slice and begin securing to the door frame.
2. In the canvas we measure the same distances under 5-6 nails, mark small grooves under the nails. For the upper bar enough 2-3 nails, it is better only on the sides. After securing the clypeus on one side of the box, you can go to the back side. For this, a second set of platbands should be prepared.
Tip: It is very convenient to attach it to self-tapping screws, but you will need to prepare mounting holes for installation. The self-tapping screw must be drowned for camouflage.
3. On the other side of the door frame, fill the gap with a small amount of mounting foam so that it does not burst the wood. After the foam hardens, gently cut out the protruding fragments so that the surface under the casing is level.
4. We measure and fix all the components, similar to the way we did on the first side of the door frame, but there are no indents here.
Tip: If the door is frequently slammed, the nail fastening step should be less, and if the door is fastened with a decorative purpose, the optimal step is 40-50 cm. If a capital is provided, then it is fixed after all the mounting steps, then go to fixing the plinth.
