Floor waterproofing in the bathroom

You can protect the floor in the bathroom from moisture by a variety of methods - a paint layer or impregnation, a bulk or film material. In parallel with this, anti-corrosion and anti-filtration insulation from moisture is used. All these methods have their own technology of using different materials and construction tools. However, there are a number of fundamental rules that correspond to the general mass of methods, the violation of which will lead to the leveling of all efforts.

Each technological process of waterproofing includes the preparatory, assembly and sealing stage. At the same time, the choice of the method of protection against moisture depends on the specific conditions of the room.

Protection against moisture mixtures

The most common technology to protect the bathroom from moisture is the use of special mixtures( glue or plaster).

  1. Adhesive is used to ensure the moisture resistance of the entire area of the room.
  2. Plastering( coating) - to protect the flooring itself and the walls at the bottom.

Waterproofing materials that are applied by spreading on the surface are now more widely spread due to their simplicity, accessibility, and also high efficiency.

High estimates for practicality and versatility were obtained by mixtures of European production( for example, Ceresit CR65).

After determining the method of waterproofing, the calculation of the consumption of the mixture to cover the surface, which will be protected from penetration of moisture. Most often take the indicator of the surface to be coated and divide by a factor of 1.5, and the result is rounded up to an integer. This makes it possible to accurately calculate the required amount of a mixture with a small margin, which is usually spent for simultaneous sealing of surface irregularities.

Having the necessary material, it is possible to begin the preparatory stage of waterproofing the bathroom. At this stage, the surface of the floor covering is cleaned of various debris, after which the dust is removed with the help of a damp rag. In addition, the floor surface is treated with a special impregnation, which increases the degree of contact with the mixture used.

After the technological interruption necessary for complete drying of the applied impregnation, proceed to prepare the mixture, which is prepared in accordance with the recommendations on the package. It should be noted that the proportions of the mixture can not be violated. It is also very important during cooking to bring the mixture to full uniformity.

Application of the mixture to the surface is carried out using various construction tools, such as:

  • spatula;
  • paint brush;
  • roller.

The mixture is applied in several layers, with a break for drying for 5-6 hours per layer. In the places of structural connections of the surfaces of the room( floor, wall, ceiling) we recommend the installation of a special tape. After complete drying( after about 24 hours) of the applied mixture, the finishing work continues:

  • ;
  • tiling.

Protection of the bathroom floor surface with impregnating and painting mixtures

The floor waterproofing device in the bathroom with various impregnations is used on concrete coatings. Specialists recommend applying such impregnations not only on the floor surface, but also on the lower part of the walls at a level of about 0.5 meters. This method is often used for self-processing, as it is very simple to implement and has a fairly high efficiency.

Depending on the structure in which waterproofing works are carried out, it is also possible to apply a method of filling or flooding waterproofing.

  1. The filling method is suitable for new premises where there is a technical possibility to lay a thick enough layer of backfill. After all, these materials increase their effectiveness with each new centimeter of the thickness of the layer.
  2. The filler material is best used under the supervision of a specialist. After all, in this case, not only waterproofing the surface, but also its alignment.

The most common method of waterproofing is the painting of special solutions and substances. Most often, for this use solutions, the basis of which is bitumen. However, this method has its operational limitations. The effectiveness of waterproofing is guaranteed for up to five years, depending on the humidity level of the room. You can also use a conservative method of applying an additional layer of plaster, but the effectiveness of this method may be reduced by 2-3 times.

Mastics in the arrangement of waterproofing

Very often recently used mastics, as a method of waterproofing. The uniqueness of the method is that such substances can be used on top of plaster and concrete screeds.

However, most often this method is used in places with a high level of moisture and the presence of water. Such substances are applied to the surface to be treated with a paintbrush or roller. After applying a layer of mastic is qualitatively leveled with a special spatula made of plastic.

Manufacturers of mastics recommend that the treated surface be thoroughly cleaned of debris, dirt and dust, as well as grease and oil stains. If necessary, special solutions should be used to clean up strong contaminants. Before use, the mastic should be actively mixed to make the solution a homogeneous structure.

It is also recommended to provide the optimal temperature regime and humidity level in the room:

  • the floor temperature is above +10 degrees;
  • humidity - not more than 90%.

Another feature of the mastic is that it can be applied in several layers, each of which should dry out for about 6 hours. The total thickness of one layer for the effectiveness of waterproofing, should be within 0.5 mm. Also mastic can be used as a basis for laying decorative floor design.

In the places of structural connections of the surfaces of premises, an additional fabric strip should be laid, which is pre-impregnated with mastic.

Each described method of waterproofing in compliance with the algorithm of technology will ensure the dryness, comfort and practicality of the bathroom. The waterproofing in the bathroom increases the service life of the repairs carried out and additionally heals the water spillage or the flow of the crane during unforeseen situations.
