Wood effect in industrial conditions

Often, industrial manufacturers use the painting of metal doors "under the tree", since this kind of product makes the product warmer and natural, and therefore more attractive to the buyer's eye. This technology is based on a special heat treatment in industrial plants. With it, previously distributed, a special powder is baked into the metal, creating bizarre patterns that mimic the pattern of the wood cut. But all this is hardly possible to repeat at home. Therefore, we will stop, nevertheless on painting.

"How much does it cost to paint the door?" - many will ask. Exactly as much as you spend on the purchase of materials and tools + a few hours of your precious time.

You can paint both entrance doors and interior doors. True, you need to consider what material they are made of. This, to a large extent, depends on the answer to the most difficult question: "What paint to paint the door?"

What are the doors?

  1. Wooden.
  2. Plastic.
  3. Glass.
  4. Metal.

Painting a wooden door is easy. And the effect "under the tree" does not need to be imitated here. The original texture is often simply enough to emphasize with toning means or lacquers( alcohol, oil or nitrocellulose).After this treatment, you can use polishing paste. If the surface is damaged and the painting needs to be painted, choose the color of the oil paint or the auto enamel of the natural wood shade.

Consider the standard painting process for any door. Here the sequence of operations is important, and their very essence. On the nuances - below.

Standard painting process with your own hands

Required materials and tools

  • spatula;
  • brush;
  • remover for old paint;
  • putty;
  • paint.

Preparation and painting process

  1. Inspect the door for possible malfunctions.
  2. Troubleshoot any problems that you find.
  3. Remove with a spatula a blistered and cracked layer of old paint. For this purpose, you can use special products of the chemical industry( sodium hydroxide or carbolic acid), if the paint is removed unevenly. About what means is better to choose, consult with the seller of a building supermarket.
  4. Wash the door well.
  5. Allow it to dry completely.
  6. Use a spatula and putty to seal all cracks and chips.
  7. Allow to dry.
  8. Remove all hardware parts. If this is not possible, then cover them with a protective film.
  9. Remove the door from the hinges.
  10. Place it on a horizontal surface. So you can avoid streaks and achieve uniform staining.
  11. Paint one side of the door.
  12. Allow to dry well. Turn the door over and do the same with the other side.
  13. After drying, finish the process by painting the sidewalls.

Now about what to do if the door is metal or plastic, or the wooden door has lost the textural pattern. In this case, rough uneven fibers and abrasions of wood can be imitated by painting the door in a special way.

Simulate wood texture by staining

What is needed?

  • paint two tones of brown. One is lighter( sand, yellow, flesh, etc.), the other is dark;
  • toning compound or varnish;
  • special rubber float with an uneven surface with bumps and hollows( look in DIY stores);

  • sandpaper;
  • brush for applying paint.

How to paint?

  1. Cover one part of the door surface with a lighter paint.
  2. Allow it to dry completely.
  3. Sand a slightly painted surface for better grip.
  4. Apply a dark brown dye.
  5. Without waiting for the drying of the top layer, smoothly "comb" the door with a rubber float. Thus, tearing of dark paint layer in some places, and exposing the lower layer of light obtain surface visually resembling a slice of wood.
  6. Open with a toner or varnish.
  7. Allow to dry completely.
  8. Repeat all operations with the second side of the door, then with the sidewalls.

Nuance!

  • Selecting certain color combinations of dyes, you can imitate even different types of wood. So, if you want to portray bleached oak planks, prefer beige and light gray shades. Natural raw oak - light brown + chocolate. Want to brag of wenge wood - choose black and red-brown. And, in general, you can experiment. The main thing is to choose natural and well-coordinated colors.

  • If you decide to experiment, then it's better to do a test drawing on a plywood sheet. So you will clearly see what you get as a result of your efforts and do not spoil the door.
  • The surface painted under the tree can also be aged( and get an "antique" door).To do this, you need a craking varnish, which, after drying, is covered with a web of cracks. Now almost wooden door will become almost rarity.

Having done these simple operations, you will get an excellent, almost new and almost wooden door. Visually( that's for sure!) The old door will not yield to the new fashionable counterparts. And the money for buying a new door and for painting old ones is needed different. Here and consider for yourself!
