If you look with horror at your interior doors with peeling paint, no longer hiding defects with glueing film, chips and cracks, but the budget is painted to a penny, it's time to take up restoration. It is this kind of measure that will allow the restoration of the canvas quickly and qualitatively, without resorting to buying new doors.

Interior doors are usually made of plastic, glass, wood and its derivatives. And there are many different methods of restoration, but the most important stage is cleaning and preparation of the canvas. It is important to carefully remove all traces of paintwork, grease, old seals, align the canvas, so that later the door looks like a new one.

The first thing to do is to carefully remove the door from the hinges and lay on a floor or four stools.

The hinges can be invisible, embedded, screwed, card detachable and non-removable. Since all the door leaf will be restored, the hinges must be temporarily dismantled completely. For this we unscrew all the bolts and caps, from the bottom we break the door with crowbar, raise it, remove it and set it aside.

How to remove the paint. Method one - grinding

If the door is flat, and there are a lot of paint layers, it is worthwhile putting the canvas on the street and trying to clean it with a grinder. The work is quite dusty, the grinding wheels are quickly clogged, but the result will not be long in coming.

Method two - application of chemistry

On sale you can find various solvents and destroyers of the old paint. One of them is B52.Principle of work: wetting the surface, waiting, cleaning the exfoliated coatings with a spatula.

In addition to the fact that this work is very heavy and harmful( solvent vapors are not safe for health), it is worth noting that chemistry can not cope with a large number of layers of the old coating. Therefore, this method is only applicable to cleaning small sections of the door with a thin layer of old paint.

On its own, it is possible to make a mixture to remove paint by mixing caustic soda, water and oatmeal to a thick consistency. This gruel should be spread over the linen, and after 30-50 minutes, scrape off with a metal spatula together with the swollen paint and varnish layer.

Method three - use of a gas burner

For fire safety reasons, work must be carried out only outdoors. The paint, heated by the burner, easily leaves, but at the same time it can smoke and emit a pungent smell.

This method is applicable only if you are able to handle the burner, have prepared a sufficient supply of cylinders and are ready to warn the neighbors about the forthcoming work.

Method four - use of a construction hair dryer

This method is the most productive and safe. Even if on the door layers of paint, applied a few decades ago, they easily peel off, and when working there will be no smells of burning or chemistry.

Heat the paint and clean with a sharp trowel. Be careful not to damage the wood. Do not lean over the door, since the air jet temperature is about 600 degrees.

Method Five - Soft Blasting

The method implies a gentle, gentle removal of complex contaminants and old paintwork from metal, glass, wooden canvases. The door leaf will not be damaged. When working with a jet of compressed air, the biodegradable cleaning agent Armex will be applied to the surface of the door.

The main drawback of this seemingly ideal method is the lack of the ability to perform work at home, the need to deliver doors to the workshop and the costs associated with it.

Method Six - Using Drills and Nozzles

Attachment Special abrasive brush-brushes are sold in shops, which are put on a drill. Metal fibers remove the old paint, but there is a possibility of damage to the wood of the blade. To process the entire door, you may need not one but several removable attachments, the cost of which is 120-170 rubles apiece.

After all the layers of the old paint are removed, you should take the sandpaper, fix it on the holder and carefully polish the door, making movements along the linefibers. This measure will remove paint from hard-to-reach areas, smooth out scratches and chips.

The door after grinding is vacuumed and wiped with white spirit, degreasing.

We open the jar with the primer, mix it and apply the composition to the door with a thin layer. The primer will prolong the life of the wood and will serve as the basis for a new paint and varnish coating. The average consumption of the primer is 100 grams per square meter of cloth. The average price of a package weighing 2.5 kg is 280-350 rubles.

Use a narrow spatula to apply a mixed wood filler. Distribute it and leave it to dry. After that, we will have to once again process the entire door with fine-grained sandpaper to eliminate all the smallest defects.

If there is a large deep crack on the door, it can be removed by selecting a piece of wood that is suitable for size and color. We slip the sliver with carpentry glue and firmly drive into the crack. After about 24 hours, the glue will dry and the door will be ready for priming, puttying and painting procedures.

We strengthen the door

If your door has become old and no longer has enough strength, it is recommended to strengthen the door leaf and the box. And it should be done immediately after the preparation, but before the staining process.

If the web is deformed, the plane will help to correct the geometry. We remove excess wood with a tool, simultaneously checking the accuracy of the corners with a joiner's metal square.

If the door has dried up and closed very loosely, a large gap between the canvas and the box was seen, it is necessary to cut a thin rail from the plywood or board and nail it to the end of the restored door. Then we process the rail with a file or a plane, just adjusting the dimensions.

You can strengthen the door leaf with metal corners. But that the door does not lose its attractiveness, it is worth paying attention to the decorative carved corners and mounting them( beaten with thin carnations or fixed with screws) after painting the canvas. Do not forget to buy a new door handle, stylistically suitable for the corners.

Change cracked glass

Cracked or simply obsolete turbid glass is not difficult to replace with your own hands. In its place, you can install a new one, for example, matte or transparent, toned or sandblasted, embossed or smooth, colored or monotonous.

Please note! If the glass has a thickness of 10 mm( triplex), then it is not advisable to replace it. Firstly, it is very expensive, and secondly, it is almost impossible for an inexperienced person to cope with this task independently.

Case 1. The glass is fixed by the beads

It is easiest to replace the glass, fixed with glazing beads. It is enough to dismantle them, then remove the glass with your hands. Armed with pliers and a metal spatula. We poddevat shtapik trowel, and pliers carefully pull out the carnations.

We use a chisel or knife to clean the glass box. We make measurements. If the opening is non-standard, we make a figured pattern from the cardboard. In this case, we take into account that the size of the glass should be slightly smaller than the opening. Wipe the glass with a soapy sponge, dry with a clean cloth, transfer the pattern from the pattern and cut.

Attention! Use gloves to avoid cutting your hands. Work on a flat surface with a working glass cutter.

Case 2. Glass has a hidden fixation

If the glass has a hidden fixation, you have to disassemble the door by unscrewing the bolts, removing the old glass and inserting a new one. By the way, instead of glass you can use an acrylic unbreakable mirror. It is light enough, durable, high decorative and easy to cut.

We paint the door

Prepared by all the rules the door can be painted. The work is done in two stages - applying the main layer of white paint and toning.

Paint choose matte for wood, apply it with a spray gun or brush, making brush strokes along the fibers. We apply one layer, making sure that there are no streaks.

Important! If there is a glass insert, then it must be sealed with paint tape, so as not to stain the surface with paint.

For toning we choose glossy or matte paint of any color, for example, dark brown. Similarly we paint the canvas. If necessary, we apply another layer, but only after the previous one has dried. The more layers of paint, the more saturated will be the shade. But do not get carried away and create a too thick coating.

Important! Be sure to prepare and restore the door frame. Otherwise, the renovated door will be disadvantageous to contrast with the adjacent wooden surfaces.

When the paint dries, you can apply a layer of glossy varnish or proceed with the installation of door handles.

Restoration of a metal door

It is possible to restore not only wooden, but also entrance doors from metal. Before work, it is desirable to remove the canvas and lay it horizontally. This will simplify the work.

Step 1. We dismantle or close the door handle, peephole, and other accessories with paint tape.

Step 2. With a metal brush or drill with a nozzle, we remove all traces of corrosion. Grind the surface of the nesting( grain size 80-150).We vacuum the cloth and work with a solvent.

Step 3. We process the door with polish for cars. It is not recommended to use putty for wood, since they do not adhere well to metal. Auto-polish will hide all the dents and micro-scratches formed after cleaning the rust. Smooth the applied polish with a spatula. Drying time of the composition is about 30-40 minutes.

Step 4. We polish the entire surface of the door with emery paper with a grain size of 400. Clean the cloth with a clean damp cloth and then degrease using a grease removal agent.

Step 5. We put on the door a primer for metal anticorrosive. In work it is convenient to use a roller and a narrow brush. After the primer layer has dried completely, we grind the canvas again with fine-grained sandpaper.

Step 6. We paint the door with paint for metal. There can be several layers, but each subsequent one is applied only after the previous ones dry up. To apply the paint, we use a roller and a brush or an airbrush. Do not forget about gloves and a respirator.

Similarly, we clean and paint the door box, then remove the paint tape, mount the hardware and hang the door to its rightful place.

Thus it is possible to restore not the entire surface of the door, but only a small area, but it is important to pick up the tone-in-tone paint.

How to laminate the interior door with

film For gluing doors, it is better not to use cheap PVC film, but to give preference to a strong "self-adhesive" D-C-FIX.Such a film is guaranteed to last more than 10 years, will not burn out in the sun and will not be rubbed.

Film is sold in rolls with widths of 45, 90 and 67, 5 cm. The length of the roll is 15 m. The average retail price of this German film is 1,700 rubles. From the huge assortment it is not difficult to choose a variant with imitation of a tree, a stone, an abstract or other pattern suitable for a specific interior.

Adhesive film should be gently, with the help of someone else's help. Cutting is desirable to produce by templates, and small bubbles immediately remove with a plastic wide spatula. If the bubble is not removed, you can pierce it with a thin needle. For better plasticity, the film can be heated with a hairdryer.

Please note! A wooden door can be restored using a veneer on an adhesive basis. Press the material against the canvas and heat it with an iron. Surplus cut. We leave the restored door leaf for a while, pressing the pasted veneer with bags of sand.
