All interior doors, available for sale, are not equipped with locks. In fact - this is nothing more than a beautiful "latch", since it does not perform any "security" function. All the mechanisms for such doors are easily opened by any sharp flat object( screwdriver, nail file and the like), so - to lock the lock or not - the owner himself decides. Now many companies offer services not only for the installation of doors, but also for the installation of locks.
The expediency of applying for help to specialists is very doubtful, since such work does not represent special difficulties, and its cost exceeds the price for the product itself, sometimes quite significantly. Ask a simple question - is it worth spending money on what you can do yourself? A good owner can easily cope with this task, having at hand only an ordinary set of "home" tools.
We will proceed from the fact that the lock is already selected, based on the parameters of a particular door.
What is needed

To make it more convenient to work, the door leaf is desirable to be placed horizontally. The base must be sufficiently firm, excluding its displacement and oscillations. As a rule, interior doors are made with a decorative coating, which is easily scratched, so you must always put something in.
The lock is installed from the front of the blade and, of course, in the center. This point needs to be found and noted, focusing on the existing risk. It is deepened( for example, by the tip of an awl) for convenience of further work, since this is where one of the lock fixing elements( self-tapping screws) will be installed.
Next, note the location of the latch( also in the center of the end part of the blade).
Any lock is equipped with two handles that are attached to its "body".You need to measure the distance from the bar to the hole where they are located, and then transfer it to the door leaf. In other words, you need to map out the points of its drilling under the door handles( on both sides).
It depends on the accuracy of the layout, how correctly the lock will be installed, how it will work.

First holes for the handle of the lock are drilled. Typically, a feather drill, even the largest, has a slightly smaller diameter. Here, and useful crown.

When buying a lock, you need to immediately purchase the appropriate crown according to the size of the rims of the handles.
Drilling must be done carefully, the electric drill( you can use a powerful screwdriver) should work at a lower speed. Masters are advised to first pass the hole to about half, and then start from the opposite side, until a through hole is obtained.
The crown then changes to a drill bit, and the holes for the latch are also drilled in the same way.
ASSEMBLY ASSEMBLY
First install the latch and the latch that closes it. Its contour is traced on the end part of the blade, after which the entire mechanism is removed again. In order for the door to be closed freely, the bar must be flush with the canvas( flush mounted).The selection of the material is easy to make a narrow chisel and knife. When the landing nest is ready, the mechanism is installed and fastened by means of self-tapping screws( the points are preliminarily drilled by shallow holes).
It remains to put the knobs and fix it.
Mounting the bar on the door frame
On the door frame, it is attached last. Beforehand, you need to "hang" the door, check how it closes, whether there are any slots. If necessary, align.
After that, you need to close it and pull out the "tab" of the latch until it stops. As a rule, there will always be a gap between the canvas and the door frame, so it is not difficult to determine its location in height.
After that, the door opens, and the drilling point is determined by the marks, in the center. This is the place where the "tongue" will be heated up when closing the door. A hole is drilled, after which the door closes again and is checked to see if the latch coincides with the complete activation of the mechanism with the prepared hole. If not, it is determined in which direction it should be slightly expanded. Such a fitting of the door jamb will not spoil, since this place will also be closed by its "own" bar.

It should be understood that locks for interior doors can be structurally somewhat different. Therefore, when installing a particular product, it is necessary to study the manufacturer's recommendation, which is always attached. But, as a rule, the differences are insignificant. Important note
Some lock models on one of the handles have a position lock. When installing such a product, it must be ensured that this stopper is located on the inside of the door.
