Types of materials

To date, the insulation market is saturated with various materials that can save much of the floor temperature. It is necessary to determine the most optimal option for yourself, both in price and quality. What are the criteria to consider when choosing the material to make the insulation of the wooden floor? Naturally, this is:

  • ecological cleanliness and safety for humans and the environment;
  • convenience and ease of mounting;
  • resistance to moisture and temperature extremes;
  • resistance to fire and good vapor permeability.

The most popular heaters are:

  • mineral wool, glass wool, mineral fibers;
  • Fiberboard, plywood, dry sawdust;
  • expanded clay, mixtures on a cement basis;
  • liquid heaters;
  • styrofoam, expanded polystyrene.

Glass wool and mineral wool possess fine mineral fibers, which sufficiently well retain warm air and absorb sound. But glass wool in rooms with high humidity is not recommended, as it quickly absorbs it. Often, the insulation of the floor in a private house is made of foam plastic. This material is moisture resistant and does not undergo deformation from water. In addition, it does not let hot air pass, it keeps it in the room, the material is very light. Of the minuses, it can be noted its flammability.

Note! Cork is an excellent material for insulation, but its cost is high.

Variants of the process

There are several most popular ways to make the insulation of the floor in the country and in the house. These include: mounting the material on the logs, on the ground and under the screed. All these methods are not complex and can be performed without special knowledge.

Insulation of the floor under the screed is an urgent issue, both for private houses and for summer cottages. If the house has a basement that is not heated, then such insulation is simply necessary to prevent the loss of hot air from the ground floor through the basement. This is also true for houses with a system of warm floors. This is done so that the floors give all the heat upstairs, into the room, and not warm up the cellar.

The insulation is quite simple. The base is leveled, and a layer of material is laid on it, dense polyethylene, a reinforcing reinforcing mesh on top and the screed is poured.

Consider how the floor is insulated on the ground. First of all, 10 centimeters of crushed stone is poured in, which is compacted, and on top of 10 centimeters of sand. Then put any insulation material. Often they are styrofoam with a waterproofing film. After that, a metal mesh is fixed, everything is poured with concrete. After the concrete has hardened, the bedding material is arranged.

Note! If the climate is very cold, then the thickness of the insulation should be at least 15 centimeters.

The most common version of insulation

The most popular is the insulation of the floor on the lag. This is due to the ease of implementation, and its high efficiency. You can produce it in any type of house: wooden or brick. The process of laying the material is very simple. Thermal insulation material is taken as thick as 200 millimeters. The logs are placed at a distance of 60 centimeters from each other.

The material is placed on boards or shields and reinforced from below. On top, waterproofing is applied to protect it from steam and moisture. The layer of waterproofing lies on the side of the insulation. When all the material is laid between the lags, it can be poured. As a waterproofing, a simple PVC film can be used.

The method is very effective and proven for years. It is perfect for both a private house and a country cottage. Material for floors can be chosen absolutely any, the technology does not change from this. But, whichever way you choose, always follow the rules, this will guarantee that the material, time and forces will not be wasted.
