The stencil can be purchased at any construction store by selecting the drawing you like. Also it can be made under the order in a workshop or to make independently, but for the beginning it is necessary to be defined with a pattern.

The stencil is used to apply an additional layer on the flat surface of the wall, which will serve as a protruding pattern.

If the image appears more than half, then it is called high relief, and if less, it is a bas-relief.

2. How to make a stencil for a bas-relief yourself

To make a stencil for decorative plaster, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Pattern pattern;
  • Plastic;
  • Pencil;
  • Scotch.

Step 3. In order to transfer the selected pattern to plastic, you need to use carbon paper. If the plastic is transparent, then the drawing can be placed under it, and then traced along the contour. To prevent the drawing from moving during the transfer, it should be attached with an adhesive tape.

Step 4. The stencil is cut out so that there are no burrs and cuts on it, as the pattern can be damaged. The cut lines must be clear and even.

3. How to make a bas-relief using a stencil

To make a bas-relief using a stencil without having any skills and experience in such a work, it is necessary to study all the subtleties and features of its use.

To begin with, you can practice on a small gypsum board, and then begin to finish the walls.

Preparatory work for

Before starting work on the wall, markings must be made. This is to ensure that the pattern can be applied evenly to the surface. The stencil for bas-reliefs is used only once, so you should immediately prepare several patterns with a pattern.

Attaching the stencil

To fix the pattern on the wall, you can use a variety of adhesive elements that must be attached to the back of the stencil. This can be a paint tape or glue, which in this work is very convenient to use.

After the glue is applied to the template, it is applied to the wall and held until it is firmly fixed.

Wall primer

Primer surface is not a mandatory process, but it will not be superfluous. When working with putty it is always recommended to use a primer, so it should cover with a solution that part of the wall to which the bas-relief will be fastened.

After covering with a primer, the wall should dry well.

Deposition of bas-relief

For application of a volumetric drawing it is recommended to use a fine-grained filler. It looks like a viscous paste and ideally passes the proportion of similar work.

Putty can be bought already ready or diluted independently with a dry mixture of water to the desired consistency.

Putty put on the stencil, covering it completely. Each layer of such a solution must be well sealed.

4. Decoration of the bas-relief

The finish of the bas-relief can be considered finished after the stencil was removed.

To make the design of the pattern more effective with the help of paints, it can be made in different colors. For painting, you need a tray and a roller with a foam nozzle.

So, take the roller and dunk it in the paint. Now you should paint the stencil without hitting the base. For painting, you can use either one or several different color shades. If you first use darker colors, then light ones, leaving a dark outline and a light middle, you can achieve good results and make the pattern even more beautiful.

Please note that the bas-relief should be painted only when it is completely dry and hardened. Cover it with paint is recommended only a day after the plaster.

To make the bulk pattern on the wall original, it can be covered with pearlescent or gold paint. It will also look good on the bas-relief silver or bronze. To apply such a paint on the pattern, you need a thin brush and a fantasy.

You can use aerosol paints, but only if the stencil is one-piece, not broken down in parts.
