Kinds of brick coloring

Everyone who is at least familiar with the construction business knows that the coloring of the brick can be voluminous and superficial.

  • In the first case, the coloring pigments are added to the composition from which the brick is made, and after firing it acquires its permanent color. If such a brick is broken into parts, then inside and outside it will be the same color. The color scale of the bricks colored by the volume method is not limited only to reddish shades, with the same success in their production uses blue and green dyes, which give the facades more lightness and weightlessness. This brick is used not only for finishing country houses and cottages, some kind of originality colored facial bricks will bring to the architecture of the city, painting commercial buildings, shops and cafes in sky-blue or light-green color. As mentioned earlier, such unnatural colors for bricks are achieved by adding a pigment when manufacturing it, but for example, a light brick of "Cream" or "Ivory" color will be made with clarifiers, which are also added to the composition and give the material yellowish shades.
  • Speaking of surface staining, it is meant that only the outer layer will be colored, which, as a rule, does not exceed 2-3 mm. With the help of powder paints or special impregnations, the finished brick is painted in one color or another. With such tinting, the color of the brick can be given absolutely any, and for the color fastness the manufacturer gives a guarantee of more than 20-30 years.

Types of colored bricks

If we talk about the classification of colored bricks by the way they are manufactured and the material from which they are produced, then we need to distinguish the following types:

  1. Silicate bricks - made of environmentally friendly material that consists of almost one sand. If you add a coloring pigment to this composition, pour it into a mold and then send it to the oven, we get a silicate colored brick of any color, even pink, though green. Apply such a brick for facing low-rise and high-rise buildings for both commercial and non-commercial purposes.
  2. Ceramic brick - is obtained from clay by firing in a furnace with a high temperature. After such a temperature shake, most clays at the outlet are red. However, there is also a colored ceramic brick, its coloring is achieved by any of the above described methods, i. E.can be superficial and volumetric. This brick is used in one-story and high-rise housing construction, and can also be used successfully in restoration work.
  3. Hyperpressed brick - made of various limestone rocks, but its peculiarity is that it does not go through the drying and roasting process. Raw materials are simply pressed under high pressure, which results in its superdensity and strength. To produce a colored hyperpressed brick, add iron-oxidized pigments, which allow to obtain a finished product of white, yellow, terracotta, greenish, gray, brown. This brick is used for facing facades, decorating individual elements of erected structures, as well as for erecting fences.

Glazed brick

Another type of colored facing bricks is the glazed look. Its feature is in the saturated color scheme and smooth surface, which is inherent in any glaze. Make such a brick in two ways:

1) the first method is that the glaze is applied to a completely finished and fired brick, and then it is placed in an oven where, at a temperature of up to 750 ° C for two hours, a second firing occurs;

2) in the second method, the glaze is applied to the formed, but still raw brick, and then all together burn 1.5 days in the oven at a temperature above 1000 ° C. With this method of production, the adhesion of the decorative glaze and the surface of the brick is the strongest.

Despite the production method, this brick has excellent performance characteristics, strength, high resistance to weather conditions( frost and moisture resistance), scratches, and also fire resistance. The main feature of glazed brick is its decorative properties, among which it is necessary to note the rich color and gloss of the surface. However, it is important to note here that glazed brick can have not only a glossy surface, but also a matte, and the glaze itself can be transparent and opaque and even have a pattern( for example, imitation of natural stone).Such a facing material is used for exterior decoration of the building and for internal works - the erection of partitions, facing fireplaces and stoves.
