Profiled beam for a bath: complete "dossier" for construction material

At the first glance at the bath from a profiled beam, you notice what ideal forms this beautiful hut has. In comparison with her, her peasant "ancestress" looks like a battered shed.

The whole thing is in the special processing of lumber: the felled log is cut on the automatic centering machine until it acquires an ideally round shape of the desired diameter. To do this, the workpiece is immobilized, the mechanism slowly rotates it around its axis, and the longitudinally moving cutter cuts off all unnecessary.

For the same purposes, there are also long woodworking machines, but they provide a more rough processing of logs, adversely affecting the further technical characteristics of the walls of the wooden structure.

Profiled beam gives several important advantages when constructing such a heat-loving structure as a sauna:

  • Useful qualities of a solid structure. Unlike other types of sawn timber, the solid beam provides the best "breathing" of the walls, gives them unique thermal insulation characteristics( according to the heat capacity, the treated log with a diameter of 160 mm is equivalent to 630 mm of the brick wall).
  • Ideal docking of elements. In full production, each workpiece is equipped with special mounting grooves to ensure a dense masonry of the log house. The tolerated discrepancies in the linear dimensions of the finished logs are negligible - 2-4 mm.
  • Beauty of undulating walls. The frame from profiled beams does not require decorative finishing, because the box itself looks simply amazing. The interior of the bathhouse will give its visitors a warm and soulful atmosphere, and the external effective facade will certainly attract the eye.

But there is this "standard handsome man" and his shortcomings. On a hewn log, it is impossible to determine its northern stronger side, and even the most durable layers of wood are destroyed during processing. This leads to the occurrence of annoying spider cracks in the already laid billets. To reduce the cracking of the profiled bar, compensatory seams are made at its base, which partially relieve the internal stress that has arisen.

Construction of saunas from profiled beam

Logs with a diameter of 160-220 mm and length of up to 7 m are produced in production. Usually for construction of baths a large-sized profiled bar( 200-220 mm) is selected, which provides the strongest thermal insulation characteristics( equivalent to 1-1.13 mbrick wall). The grade of wood is northern, in our regions, pine or spruce is used for this purpose.

Wooden bath is a light structure, therefore, under favorable conditions, the most economical columnar foundation is enough for its arrangement. Once the support posts are ready, it's time to install the frame.

You can do this in two ways:

  • Simple. On the construction site comes the shaped bar of standard length. Workers will independently adjust the blanks to each other, cutting the logs to the desired length and making the necessary mounting grooves in them.
  • Design. Directly in the manufacture cut out the frame of your bathhouse and provide in the elements all the necessary for the installation of the notch. For convenience, the construction site receives already numbered building material with the layout of the future box.

The first method requires the involvement of highly skilled carpenters, but the "designer" is able to fold even ordinary workers without special skills.

The main difficulties in the construction of a sauna from a bar

Those who decided to build a steam room in this way should take into account two important nuances:

  1. Shrinkage shrinkage. After the erection of the building, the building will have to be frozen for at least 6 months( ideally 1 year). This time is necessary for the final shrinkage of logs, in which deformations of window, doorways and ceilings are possible. As a percentage, this "harmful" indicator is quite high - 8-12%.
  2. Additional bath warming. Despite the dense mating of the masonry elements, the frame from the profiled beam requires a double caulking( jointing with special insulation). The first time the thermal insulation is performed directly during the laying of logs, but the second time the procedure should be repeated after the end of the forced technological pause.

Construction of a bath from a profiled bar is better done from building material of a complex profile, which differs from a simple sample by the "sticky" contour of mounting grooves. This will provide higher technical indicators of the future walls of the structure( blowback, better thermal insulation of joints).
