Warming the chimney - why is it all done?

Often, especially in severe climatic conditions, there is a rapid destruction of chimneys, which in turn leads to costly repairs. This happens due to condensation, due to the difference in temperature on the surface of the pipe and the surrounding air, so that when the chimney is cooled with condensate, its entire wall is impregnated, which is especially dangerous if there is a negative temperature outside the chimney. The insulation of the chimney just serves to avoid this process.

Insulation of a brick chimney can be done by simple plastering on a reinforcing mesh, but it is much more effective to do this with mineral wool and plastering, and it will be more appropriate to use a mineral heater with subsequent shelter of various types of siding, metal profile and similar materials. By the same scheme, the chimney is insulated.

Thermal insulation of chimneys - tools and preparation

Thermal insulation of chimneys will require the following

tools and materials: : tape measure, puncher, screwdriver, angle grinder( Bulgarian) with cutting disc, metal scissors, cutting knife for insulation, metal profile for installation of wall gypsum board, dowel-nails, mineral heat-resistant insulation, vapor barrier film. Also, before starting work, you must thoroughly clean the surface of the chimney.

To make the insulation of a brick pipe, first of all it is necessary to make crate from a metal profile. First, set the guide profiles by fixing them with dowel-nails to the chimney wall, and the bottom one is additionally fixed to the roof by means of screws.

Vertical racks attach to the rails with a screwdriver small self-tapping "fleas".The distance between adjacent vertical posts should be equal to the width of the insulation used. The width of the metal profile is chosen based on the thickness of the insulation, which in turn is calculated based on the climatic conditions and characteristics of the insulation.

Understand the intricacies of

After installing the battens, proceed to the laying of the insulation. To insulate the brick chimney was a quality, you need to carefully look at the fact that between the slabs there were no slots in order to prevent the bridges of cold during operation. If necessary, you can trim the insulation with a special knife.

If we need to lay, for example, 100 mm of insulation, and the thickness of the insulation - 50 mm, then the second layer must be laid with offset, so that the entire mat of the next layer of insulation is on the joint of the mats of the previous layer.

In places of strong sagging insulation mats, if necessary, they can additionally be attached to the chimney wall by means of dowels-umbrellas. All work with a heater of mineral wool should be done with proper safety measures that do not allow the penetration of the insulation particles into the eyes and the respiratory tract.

After laying the insulation, close it with a vapor barrier film, and put it so as not to allow the moisture on the outside to get on the heater, which will lead to a deterioration in its properties. Also it is necessary to watch closely that the film has been laid down by the necessary party. Joints are carefully glued with a special adhesive tape. If necessary, we fix the film to the metal profile with the help of screws with wide hats.

After this we define with cladding materials. They are quite numerous, but more often they use metal profiles with anodized or polymer coating, which is attached to the crate by special screws with rubber gaskets.
