Selection of the material for the bench

Among the main requirements for raw materialsbath bench, we can distinguish the following:

  • low thermal conductivity of the material, which will ensure the possibility of comfortable sitting or lying on the surfaceoste, without burning bare exposed parts of the body;
  • high density of wood, so that the bench will not crack or split, delivering discomfort or leaving splinters on the skin;
  • strength - this will allow the sauna shop to serve for a long time in a suitable condition, withstanding high temperatures and humidity inside the bath.

Making a bench for a sauna on photos , it can be noted that the best material for the product are deciduous tree species:

  • birch;
  • linden;
  • oak;
  • ash;
  • aspen;
  • alder;
  • maple.

In order for the steam room not only to look aesthetically pleasing, but also smell good, you can build a bench of coniferous wood. For this purpose:

  • cedar;
  • larch;
  • pine.

Important! The pine bench is suitable for use only outside the steam room. This restriction is due to the fact that wood with a high temperature and high humidity releases a sufficiently large volume of resin. And this will only discomfort during operation.

The undisputed leader in choosing the material for the bench is the lime tree. The wood of this kind has a pleasant light color, has high strength, it is easily processed and has a therapeutic effect on human health.

No less common material such as aspen. However, its popularity is dictated by the cheapness of raw materials, while many bathhouse owners lose sight of the fact that the main drawback of the aspen shops is the appearance of internal rot. As a result of such processes, the product quickly becomes unusable. Therefore, in terms of quality, you should rely on a more expensive, but hardy material.

Variations of sauna benches

Such a common bath furniture item actually has a lot of design options. Among the main types of products it is customary to distinguish:

  • movable benches that serve to furnish a rest room;
  • static benches, used in the steam room.

A simple without backrest often serves as a footrest. Such a miniature product for a bath is easy enough to make independently, but the stable bench could not hold a stable bench.

sliding benches are somewhat inferior in popularity to more comfortable and practical products - bunk or step benches, which significantly save space in the room and do not create obstacles under your feet.

Consider the main features of the products:

  1. Stepped benches are located one above one, with the upper row with shelves a little wider, because it can be not just sit down, but also lie down.
  2. Two-story benches are used to furnish small-sized baths, and climb them will have to use an additional ladder.
  3. For a very compact twin room the best option is to equip the room with one bench in the form of a removable shelf.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BASE STORE

  1. To ensure the rigidity of the wooden bench for the bath, all products are pulled together by side rails, fixing them against the stop at the ends of the longitudinal rails. It is necessary to use PVA glue for wood. Thus, the rigid frame forms a longitudinal strip mounted on the rib along with the side posts. This will give stability to the entire structure.
  2. The upper board, serving as a seat, is fixed to the frame with glue by means of furniture dowels. To prevent damage to the bench from moving across the floor, plastic footstands are attached to the lower ends of the side fragments.
  3. All elements of the bench are covered with moisture-resistant lacquer without a smell, which has an antiseptic effect. Thus, the surface of the structure after treatment acquires a semi-matched, neat appearance, without damaging the texture of the tree itself.

Step-by-step guide to the manufacture of

In the case where the construction of a benches bench for a bath comes from finished furniture boards, the manufacturing process is simplified as much as possible and the workpieces are processed in accordance with the existing drawing. Otherwise, you need to prepare the elements yourself. When cutting blanks, it is necessary to take into account allowances for finishing, which are 20-30 mm on each side.

Manufacture of glued panels from the wood of the desired rock should be made by means of a 20x10 mm slat that is inserted into the longitudinal grooves between the boards. Such a bar can be made with your own hands, but this requires special equipment, for example, a thicknesser. It can also be cut from a plywood sheet, but it's much better to purchase the finished version, especially since its cost is negligible.

The process of building a sauna bench consists of the following steps:

  1. On a flat surface of the working table, two boards must be laid parallel to each other with gaps. After that, they should be fixed by means of clamps. In the future, the top surfaces of wooden boards will be the base of the router.
  2. Adjust the side stop with the base base so that it and the surface of the second processed board form a groove 10 mm deep. If you intend to handle with a milling cutter with a bearing, you will not need lateral stops.
  3. Thoroughly milled the hole in a few approaches.
  4. Do the same procedure on the second board, without changing the position of the cutter. In this case, pay attention: if the depth of the groove is less than the width of the bar, then it should be treated with additional passes.

6th

  1. Repeat the same steps on the remaining pairs of boards.
  2. Once all grooves have been prepared, test the shield. If the result is positive, then you can proceed to the gluing.
  3. Use a brush to cover the holes, and then apply glue to the rail itself.
  4. Glue the rail on each board on one side, and only then glue the protruding edge into the hole of the adjacent board.
  5. After you have glued the entire wooden shield, you can proceed to pull it together with wedges and clamps.
  6. To ensure that the structure does not bend, it is necessary to put on it bars, which need to be fixed with screws to the table on the sides. In this condition, the product must be left until completely dry.
  7. All other fragments of the bench should be made from prepared shields. To do this, apply the markings in accordance with the prepared drawing.
  8. Then, using a jigsaw, cut out each contour of parts.
  9. Make the rounding of the edges on both sides by passing the radius milling cutter.
  10. Assemble the components together, fixing them with screws.

Please note!

  • It is desirable to conduct a test assembly of the resulting excess material. Thus, you can see all the nuances that can arise when constructing a finishing product.
  • When applying glue, try to avoid premature drying of the contents. Places where excess liquid has collected, it is necessary to wipe gently with dry matter to prevent the formation of glue spots on the outer surface of the bench.
