We make a milling machine for wood by our own hands - step by step instruction and drawings

It is necessary to work with wood at home quite often. For the simplest nesting of samples, any master always has a saw at hand. But the owner of an apartment house with a private plot, often in the arrangement of outbuildings, has to perform more complicated operations than simple sawing, connected with the sampling of the material.

Milling machine for wood for the owner, who loves( and knows how) everything to do by oneself, superfluous will never be. About how to collect it, what to consider when designing, and is described in this article.

To the person who is going to assemble the router himself, to explain the elementary things - what sizes it is necessary to select bolts( screws), that under the fasteners it is necessary to put not only the washers but also the groovers( vibration!), The sizes( cross-section) of pipes and the like - there is no sense. But to note the general features of the assembly, "arm with some ideas" - this is enough to make a milling machine, designed to work with any kind of blanks.

Desktop

This design is stationary. Its strength and dimensions depend on the possibilities for processing samples with different dimensions.

Stand

Its linear parameters are chosen depending on the specific use of the machine and are determined individually, therefore it is senseless to give specific recommendations on the dimensions. Material for it can be metal( for example, a large corner, a pipe), a tree( bars of sufficient cross-section).

What to take into account when installing

  • When designing a machine, it is advisable to plan the installation of adjustable supports. This will not only provide additional convenience in working with different samples, but will also allow the working surface to be horizontally sealed on any, even uneven ground( for example, ground).Proceeding from this, it is more expedient to collect the frame from the metal.
  • If it is mounted from a pipe, it is better to use workpieces with a rectangular profile. Such a design to assemble, reliably combine all its components will be much faster and easier.

Table top

fr-4 It is better to mount it from plates( for example, particle board, OSV, etc.) or boards. Metal in this case is not suitable. Thick sheets greatly weight the whole structure, and the thin ones will vibrate during operation.

Conclusion - each master in self-construction collects the desktop "by itself."Therefore, all schemes, drawings placed on thematic sites, should be regarded only as a kind of clues, and not a direct "guide to action."

Machine engine

Power( kW)

  • 0,5 - such a machine will allow performing only the simplest operations: removal of the top layer, grinding, selection of grooves, grooves and the like.
  • 1 - 1,5 - Deep wood processing is possible, however the duration of continuous technological operations will depend on the species and the quality of the wood drying.
  • 2 - 2,5 - the machine with such a drive is considered universal, as it can be installed on any milling cutters, both in configuration and in size. This option is more suitable for people who work with wood on a professional level. To perform simple operations, the more often you have to do it in everyday life, it is hardly worthwhile to assemble an aggregate of this capacity.

fr-5

Number of revolutions( rpm)

The higher this parameter of the engine, the more "clean" will be the processing of the material. If the cutter comes across a problem area( for example, a knot), then at a high rotation speed this will not lead to a malfunction. Proceeding from this, you should choose the engine model.

Power( number of phases and voltage)

In the private sector, you should focus on 1ph / 220 v. When choosing an engine at 3F, you should pay attention to how its windings are switched on. The conversion from "star" to "triangle"( or vice versa) often causes a decrease in efficiency, sometimes doubling.

Support plate for

It is also referred to as a mounting tool, since a milling cutter is attached to it. To produce it, it is better to take sheet metal, fiberglass, getinax. The thickness of composite samples is chosen on the basis of their dimensions - it must provide the required strength of the structure( with vibration included).

fr-6

Elements for fixing blanks

fr-7 Clamping parts are executed in different ways. Reliable fastening of wooden samples can be provided with clamps located on the sides of the table top. They can be installed either removable or fixed( welded to the frame).Although the latter option is less convenient to use.

You can do it the other way. Put a few clamping devices along the countertop, and fixing the various sizes of parts to carry metal strips, which, in turn, are pressed with clamps. There are plenty of options, and smartness will tell you how to organize the secure fixing of blanks on the desktop.

Machine safety elements

  • Button( toggle switch) for emergency engine stop.
  • Screen around the work area.

Optional:

  • Backlight.
  • Dust collector.

Naturally, the power of such a machine is small, but it is quite suitable, for example, for the production of figured samples from a thin board, ply plywood. Who is engaged in artistic cutting of wood, can appreciate the convenience of processing it with such a self-made installation.
